inspections are as good as the people doing them. very fukupable. I used to be in construction and seen stuff passed that not only wasnt up to code, was downright dangerous.

Now saying 159 missing. 4 confirmed dead. Hope more can survive, but that's going to be a miracle to survive.

Looks like this building was pretty much fully occupied as the missing counts are rising.. 150+ now. You’d think they would find and identity some people by now. Come to think of it, there was a basement in this building. Most of the building fell into there and maybe even further below if a sinkhole opened, damn.

Human bodies and 30 floors of concrete don't mix well. Can't imagine how anyone could survive.

There was a bridge in Missouri or something that's had a full beam snapped in half and no one noticed for a few years. Inspections are sometimes a joke and people just do a once over.

There was a sink hole, but no one noticed. Once it finally gave way, the foundation slab collapsed into the sinkhole, which ripped down the column supports, which then pulled the entire building down on itself. If this was an explosion, they would find residue from such and see burn marks on the steel. I'm guessing no one did a geological survey of the underground, and they'll likely find something, and then test all the surrounding areas.

Miami is built on and has a lot of Limestone, which over time dissolves underground and creates caves and tunnels. With this being so close to the water, experiencing flooding from hurricanes, it was only a matter of time really. There were reports of cracks in the foundation slab which should of been an immediate warning sign that something was happening underground, and there were reports that the building was sinking. Looks like the ignored it and when a concrete slab like that breaks, it removes almost all vertical loading on the building, thus causing it to collapse like this.

Not sure when the building was built but a lot of Miami real estate was built with illegal drug money in the 70s&80s. Not hard to imagine building inspectors being paid off if the build is being funded by drug lords.

This. Apparently they're using sonar and are hearing consistent banging and whatnot. Imagine being asleep, dreaming that you're falling, and you wake up to you actually fuking falling. Then being buried alive, banging hoping someone hears you, then hoping they can get to you before you die of either your injuries, suffocation, or dehydration.

This makes sense (built in 81). And combined with being hit by a few hurricanes in the past 40 years.

Horrific.

They got so much trash and debris to move and time is of the essence. Terrible way to die, buried alive essentially

Why do rescue crews for things such as this typically consist of firemen with German shepherds instead of cranes and JCBs? Like, crazy thought but why not move said rubble instead of try and venture through it?

I think they don't want to move too much chit because it might help them figure out what went wrong.

Anyway

The building owner is 100% responsible for not rehousing the tenants while structural repairs happened, if they knew the building had been sinking since the 1990s and that it needed major structural repair then they shouldn’t have been cheap kunts and done what was right.

Now dozens will be dead and buried alive because of incompetence.

Hope everyone is held responsible and liable, prison sentences should be handed out
