I think we need Olinemen in 2 of the first 3 rounds. Depending on what happens in FA, I'd love a WR in the second, especially with how loaded the WR class is.

Gross certainly went out on top, clearly could have been a great LT for a few more years. Wish him the best.
Oline is getting weak. Need 2 tackels and WR in 1st 3 rounds.
I am not high on the FA wrs at their prices. Decker is a manning product and more of wr2. Nicks scored as many tds as I did last year………..and he had the advantage of actually playing in the NFL. Maclin is a hot name and we don't have the $ once he keep hardy.
could argue Stephen Hill (jets speed size freak) could he a dirt cheap pickup for the amount of raw talent. We are not doing WCO like they are with Marty Morningweg so he might be a better fit.
Shame we can't get rid of Jstew to free up some space…that would be a stroke of genius.

^^^ yeah FA WR class is a bag of dicks. I want to stay far, far away from this group of guys. Hardy is still a priority IMO.
IF for some reason we lose Hardy, my nightmare is them using that money stupidly on some poverty guys that don't deserve it. If Hardy walks, I think we should just punt on this years class of FA's and sign Cam to his inevitable mega-deal. Construct the contract to throw an absurdly high cap number in year 1 and that way it gets it out of the way and gives us room for Kuechly/Star/etc in the future. I love Hardy but if he walked we'd have a LOT of extra room to work with..

As much as I hate to say it we def need to go OL instead of WR in the first round. To be honest unless something amazing happens for us we probably def need to go OL and WR in the first 3 rounds which means our corner problems are forced to last for at least another year.
Damn.

We really can't address secondary to the later rounders unless someone drops insanely far.
@cor….Hardy has a right to get paid, can't say he didn't earn a payday. Our cap issues stem form the insane contracts on jstew and dwill. If we didn't have those affording hardy wouldn't be an issue, we could sign hardy to a long term contract, get a safety or T of our choice and save the rest for upcoming deals like cam and luke.
notice the majority of the sb winners recently were winning before they sold their entire cap space to keep a qb.
wilson- insanely insanely cheap rookie deal
Flacco- Old contract
Eli x2-nothing too expensive
Ben x2 - nothing too expensive
Rodger - before his current big deal
Brady- wins were cheap/early contracts/he takes a low salary to help the team.

Getting another weapon for Cam is crucial. OL is without question important but it doesn't matter how long Cam has back there if receivers can't get separation. How many times did Cam sit back in the pocket, waiting, waiting, and waiting some more for someone not named Smitty to shake their guy?

OL seems to be a position filled with guys in their early/mid 30's that aren't quite ready to retire yet and are more than willing to come in on cheap, 1-2 year deals. I mean look at how big of an impact Hangman had with us since coming in 2011. We grabbed him for peanuts. We also get our 2011 2nd rounder back in Silatolu. People forget how much Silatolu improved throughout his rookie season. Many expected him to take a leap into dominant territory before getting injured Then there are some quality free agent tackles(Brandon Albert for example).
Basically I still think receiver is our clear cut #1 priority and no matter what happens going into the draft, it should stay that way. Maybe Ebron, given how good of a blocker he is, jumps up the draft chart for us. Defense doesn't concern me one bit if Hardy is re-signed. I could start in our secondary with that front 7.

Losing Smitty never made sense to me for various reasons.
And it looks like we are officially tagging Hardy. On one hand that kinda money is crazy, but it's probably temporary as we work on a long term deal. Good teams don't let young, top flight pass rushers walk. With him our front 7 is in tact and our defense will continue dominating.

Looking at the FA list there are a lot of serviceable OL out there. Given their injury propensity from those positions maybe it'd make sense to bring in a couple of serviceable ones and sort out our other issues.
As for Keth's proposal, I'm sure you don't expect that to happen, we have too many (3) glaring weaknesses for trading the farm for one guy to even be a thought.
Always fun to dream, though! That's what I'm doing with Ebron falling to us and us actually taking him.

Look at the Ravens. One of the smartest front offices in football and they still had to pay Flacco.
I still think we tagged him to buy some extra time for negotiation. Won't surprise me if we see both Hardy & Cam get their long term deals this offseason.

Are y'all really worried about the possibility of losing Cam?
I just don't think it matters WHEN Cam got his deal; whether it's today or 2 years from now he is going to get paid elite QB money. It sucks because he's obviously not on a Brady or Rodgers level but the market is what it is. He is going to get a Flacco level contract.
I'm more concerned with keeping this defense at an elite level and Hardy is crucial to that. People forget that Cam's rookie deal holds an option for a 5th year making him signed through the 2015-2016 season.
http://espn.go.com/blog/carolina-pan...-get-his-money

So in that first article it shows that Gettleman took a team that was $16 million dollars OVER the cap, to $15 million UNDER.. and we're slated to have like $28 million available this year, too.

Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton will get his money.
No need to panic.
No reason to think that it's a red-flag warning because the Panthers haven't initiated talks in the weeks since the first pick of the 2011 NFL draft became eligible to renegotiate.
The Panthers, sources said, haven't really begun negotiations on any contracts.
They are in the same boat as other teams financially strapped under the salary cap. There's not much they can do until the league officially sets the cap for 2014 in the next week or two.
Until then, it's hard to promise Newton or any of the team's 21 unrestricted free agents anything.
One of general manager Dave Gettleman's strengths is patience. He showed it last February when he didn't clean house with the coaching or scouting staff after replacing Marty Hurney. Gettleman showed it when he didn't replace head coach Ron Rivera when the Panthers were 0-2 or 1-3.
He showed it when he methodically restructured contracts to take the Panthers from more than $16 million over the salary cap to more than $15 million under it – or more, depending on what the final cap number is, likely between $126 million and $128 million.
According to ESPN's Roster Management System, with a $6 million carryover, the Panthers could have as much as $28 million to play with based on a $128 million cap.
Regardless, when Gettleman said after the season he was going to take time to evaluate every player for the course of a 17-week season, he meant it. That he hasn't contacted free agents such as cornerback Captain Munnerlyn doesn't mean he's not interested.
It means the evaluation isn't over and – again – until there's a hard cap number there's no need to make empty promises.
Newton's situation is different. He has a year left on his original deal and the team still has the choice of picking up a fifth-year option that would extend it to two years.
Newton also doesn't need much evaluation. He proved his worth the past three seasons, particularly this past season in guiding Carolina to a 12-4 record and the NFC South title.
Gettleman and Rivera acknowledged that by saying the 2010 Heisman Trophy winner was their franchise quarterback. They understand their quarterback is now on a path to becoming one of the league's elite players.
So Newton will get paid, whether that's with an extension this year or next.
Despite how well Munnerlyn played in 2013, the Panthers are looking to upgrade the secondary. They aren't looking to upgrade at quarterback, except maybe at the backup position with a draft pick or free agent.
So it's understandable if Munnerlyn is a little on edge that the Panthers haven't opened talks with his agent, although sources said that is expected to happen for him and others at the NFL combine in Indianapolis that begins Wednesday.
But when you look around the league, not a lot of teams have re-signed their own free agents at this point.
Defensive end Greg Hardy's situation is different, too. He proved his worth with a team-best 15 sacks and a trip to the Pro Bowl. For him, it's a question of whether the Panthers can afford a new deal or the franchise tag that would cost them about $12 million – or a huge hunk of their cap room.
This all figures into what the Panthers will do with Newton. Ideally, they'd like to get a new deal this year.
But if that hurts improving the team's chances of getting back to the playoffs, it's doubtful Newton would want that. The one thing he learned this past season is that the perception of a player's capabilities is much better when he's on a winning team.
Newton's contract probably wouldn't be a topic now if he wasn't asked Monday on the "Dan Patrick Show" if he planned to pressure Carolina into an extension with a holdout.
Not that he'd ever suggested a holdout was possible.
Newton, to his credit, handled the question with the poise that allowed him to generate last-minute, fourth-quarter comebacks against Miami, New England and New Orleans.
He said his priority was on taking his performance to the "marquee" level Carolina needs to avoid a letdown and take the next step in the playoffs.
He talked about being a leader, and how a holdout would send the wrong message to the rest of the team.
"I'm not worried about contract discussions right now," Newton said on the show. "My main focus is just becoming the better player I can become."
Newton shouldn't be worried. He's going to get his money.

Appearing on the Dan Patrick Show Monday,
