They tagged him as a TE but Graham is going to file a grievance.

I can't help but to be worried about our cap situation. We still have quite a bit of free agents than need to be signed, since we tagged Hardy most of our cap space is gone. Cutting Godfrey will help but we still a lot of help at O"line, wr, db.

Even though we have an obvious need at OT, we still cant afford to ignore wr in the draft. We need to take a Wr in either of the first two rounds, just too much talent to be left on the table, especially since its a position of need.

Don't expect them to let him go I'll just have my popcorn while I watch the drama unfold.

What happens if the Ain'ts sign a few guys and use up their cap and then Graham wins his appeal and they're forced to pay him the extra 5mil or whatever raise he'd get as a WR? I know they'd play the safety on that but it could really cause them to miss out in free agency if they had to be hesitant on who they signed just incase.

Pretty sure he has a major case to be paid as a WR. Inb4 that DLineman for the Jets files an appeal and wants to be franchise tagged as a RB instead of a DL.

Honestly the argument for designating him a WR is stronger than as a TE. He plays a large majority of his snaps as a WR.

It is. And considering he is virtually useless at anything other than catching a football, case is even stronger against him not being a TE.

lets be real, the whole is he a TE or WR thing is stupid. Wheter your WR scores 16 td, your Rb scores 16 tds, your Te scores 16 td, or you center lines up as an eligible receiver and scores 16 tds.

it is still 16 ****ing tds.

Pay for production, semantics is just a cheap cop out.

We're talking about the franchise tag…

I'm sure Graham's agent and the Saints are working on a long term contract. Just like the Panthers and Hardy are.

Graham can be had for 2 first round picks… We don't have the money to give him a long term deal if we did it but man oh man, I hope somebody does.

Salary cap is projected to increase to $140 next year and likely $150 million by 2016. That's a pretty fukking significant increase. It'll make most mega-deals signed prior seem like bargains.

Kuechly is under contract for 2 more years and Star for 3 more years. Cam is a no-thought because he's not walking, but for arguments sake, he's under contract for 2 more years as well. So 2016 would be the deadline for us to get something done for them. We'll for the most part be completely rid of our cap-hell status by then.

Also, as good as Charles Johnson has been, the way his contract is structured gives us the opportunity to release him without incurring significant cap accelerations/etc since we paid him almost all of the guaranteed money in the first year.. you never like to tear apart a team/get rid of good players to resign guys but that's just another option in the toolbox for us.

Jonathan Stewart seems to be the only albatross that we won't be able to get rid of. I don't know the specifics of the contract but I believe cutting him isn't really an option, at any point in his contract :\ only thing we can do is hope he returns to form.

so cliffs: with the impending (significant) increases in cap room, combined with current contracts coming off the books and a history of Carolina shying away from big free agent splurges.. yes. we will be able to retain this group of players as long as they want to be here.

Yes. By the time Star's rookie deal is up CJ and Stew will be off the books (or close enough to not worry about it). Hell at that point I bet Hardy's deal will be at the point we could cut him if need be.

It's kind of scary to think that Kuechly/Star could very well both get contracts that will make them the highest paid at their positions. Kuechly is already there, but if Star builds on his rookie year we're looking at some serious cash for them. Not even gonna mention Cam, lol.

Good problem to have I suppose.

The Carolina Panthers are expected to show interest in Baltimore Ravens impending free-agent OT Eugene Monroe if he becomes available in free agency.

imagine this defense if we managed to get Byrd. it seriously wouldn't even be fair.

our secondary, because of the cornerback situation, would still be a serious concern vs. any real offense.. but how many bad throws did our line force for nothing? like our guys ran the opposite fukking way from the ball sometimes I swear. dat ball hawking from Byrd would put the D over the top.

Hardy crushed that dream unless his long term deal is on some Flacco-sh*t where the first years cap hit is nothing(bad, bad, bad, bad, BAD idea with so many key guys coming up for extensions).

Would rather spend money on an OL than a safety at this point but Byrd would be nice to have back there.

Sometimes standing pat is the best move you can make. Fukking Gettleman rules, the guy is gonna do right by us. I'm looking forward to this draft, though. If we hit again here like we have in the past few years we're gonna be prime.

Yeah hopefully they can bring Mitchell and Ginn back but a focus on OL in FA then best available OL and WR early in the draft.

Eh lol. We've always been one of the teams that does their FA shopping weeks/months after it begins. Even if we had money to spend I doubt we would. It hardly ever works out for the teams that go big anyways. How many times have the "winners" of free agency actually met their hype?

It is boring, though.

I agree with the big signings. But man McCluster went for $3 mill/year. Would be nice to be able to go out and do that.

I'd like to sign Nicks to a one year deal to see what he can do, similar to Ginn. Inconsistency and inguries worry me though. And lol, our pass rush would be rediculous.

Starting to hear that cutting smith may have a lot to do with team chemistry. Supposedly a lot of players are getting fed up with his " You aren't as good as me so you are useless" attitude.

Heard that on the local PM drive radio show. Don't really buy it considering the Charlotte guys haven't mentioned it.

That said Smith has never been the veteran mentor type. Hes often said he views other receivers as threats and competition.

WFNZ isn't going to because they're buddies with 89. he regularly appeared on there until Taylor went to Sirius

Not supporting it, but if we do kinda punt this free agency, we will go into next offseason with a pretty damn significant amount of cap space(dat rollover). Much needed space for several extensions and a good group of FA's.

Just sayin'
