Not supporting it, but if we do kinda punt this free agency, we will go into next offseason with a pretty damn significant amount of cap space(dat rollover). Much needed space for several extensions and a good group of FA's.

Starting to hear that cutting smith may have a lot to do with team chemistry. Supposedly a lot of players are getting fed up with his " You aren't as good as me so you are useless" attitude.

Saints signing Byrd is baaaaad news for us. And there cap was supposed to be ****ed. Man.
This as been a bad offseason for us. Guys leaves, Pro-bowls LT retires, meanwhile divisional opponents doing work. (although not sure if the bucs count)

I could see him struggling in coverage without a consistent pass rush. All in all he's a really good but not great safety who you guys prob overpaid for. Panthers signed him to a 1 yr 1 mill dollar contract last yr compared to the steelers 5 yr 25 mill. Quite a difference, buyer beware

I think the Bucs signing Verner to a better contract is the real steal.

Barnwell called it one of the 5 worst free agents moves on "Day One":
5. Pittsburgh gives S Mike Mitchell a five-year, $25 million deal: Theres so much weird in that sentence. The Steelers almost never enter into free agency, and when they do, they dont often screw up. I still cant make heads or tails of this signing. A year ago, Mitchell entered the market after four years in Oakland and barely found a contract, getting a one-year deal for $1 million from the Panthers to play special teams and serve as a backup safety. He eventually found his way into the starting lineup and impressed as a run-thumping safety, but it was also behind a dominant front seven, which made his life a lot easier.
Now, after 13 starts, the Steelers suddenly think hes worth $5 million per year? That would be questionable on its own, but its even weirder considering Pittsburghs defense. Mitchells strength is using his speed to attack the line of scrimmage and fill against the run. His fellow starting safety in Pittsburgh is Troy Polamalu, a rover who has lost several steps in coverage and whose best remaining strength is using his instincts to attack the line of scrimmage and fill against the run. Id wonder if Mitchell was a replacement for Polamalu, but the cap-strapped Steelers just gave their long-serving safety a two-year contract extension. This could work Dick LeBeau happens to know a lot about safeties but it certainly seems like a risky venture on its face.

Here’s the inconvenient truth the Panthers are now facing with the imminent departure of Steve Smith: Carolina has no receiver on its roster that caught a pass last season.
Ted Ginn Jr., Brandon LaFell and Domenik Hixon all became unrestricted free agents Tuesday, therefore they are not on the Panthers roster.
Carolina has Tavarres King, Marvin McNutt, Kealoha Pilares, Toney Clemons, Brenton Bersin and R.J. Webb as their receivers.

Obviously we are going to sign someone, but with 89 gone and Ginn meeting with other teams….
I just don't get it.
At least ask the guy to restructure.

Word is Gettleman sees Smith as a locker room distraction and removing him is going to allow Cam and, to a lesser extent Luke, become the team leaders.
If we sign Nicks and draft a receiver (Benjamin please) I think we'll be good. McNutt will be better than Lafell I think and King could be better than Ginn

I also think Gettleman is trying to plan for 2-3 years from now and didn't see many ways to improve the roster this year. So instead of tying up future money hes trying to keep the core guys and bring in a bunch of one year deals.

one of the most frustrating off seasons thus far in a while. If we can somehow sign Nicks, resign Ginn, Sign Oher to play RT, sign Terell Brown or resign Munnerlyn ill be somewhat content.

LOL, good luck with that.
This.
Barnwell called it one of the 5 worst free agents moves on "Day One":
Don't get me wrong, I like what Mitchell brought to the table for us, but he was basically almost out of football. He should send $10M to the Kracken and $10M to LUUUUUKKKKEEEE, and keep $5M for himself.

Mitchell isnt young though. In 1-2 years you'll probably want to replace him. Both Troy and him are good run stuffers who don't play the pass well (anymore in Troy's case).

The one nice thing is a lot of teams threw out big contracts for not big players. We could always make a play for Jimmy Graham next year (JK **** him he wants Calvin Johnson money).

resign Ginn.
King might not be the return man Ginn is, but i think he'll be a better WR. Sign Nicks and draft someone like Kelvin Benjamin or Jordan Matthews and I think we've got something going. Add in Brandon Williams as another receiving TE threat and watch Cam flourish
