Wilson and Tannehill are the only one you can remotely compare with Cam but they at least go after FA, Dolphins got Albert this year and Wallace last year. Seattle got Lynch and Harvin through FA and trade
Santana Moss is WAY better than anyone the panthers had last season not named Smith or Olsen.
And you can't be serious about Foles REALLY? He has 3 good backs, 3 good receivers, 2 good TE and a good O-line.

All I know is that if Cam struggles next year I better not hear how its his fault. Gettlemen is taking ALL the blame.
You're missing the whole entire point here. This isn't a fukking Madden 25 fantasy draft where you can just load up on talent at every position. The NFL has a salary cap which means you only have money to spend in certain places the rest you have to roll the dice with young, cheap, talent that all gel at the right time if you want to win a superbowl. All of the good organizations have priorities on their team. Some, like Indy, are built on offense. They spend their money there and patch together a defense with what they have left. We're built on defense. We do not have a heavy passing offense. We need someone who can get open on 3rd down and also be effective in the redzone other than Olsen.

What should we sacrifice to get a better WR? Should we have let Hardy walk so our secondary could have gotten torn apart without the pressure we generate up front? Should we sign a couple of guys and let Kuech or Star walk in a few years because we're too cap strapped? You have to look at the big picture. It's not that he didn't want these guys it's that we didn't want to give a guy like Brandon LaFail 11.5 million dollars just to do it. Once we draft and pick up some serviceable role players through the preseason our team will look very different. We only need to score a couple of touchdowns per game to even win so acting like we're doomed without having a top flight WR is kind of redic dude, for real.

I think people misunderstand how teams like the 49ers, Seahawks, Broncos, and Pats are built. The Seahawks and 49ers we're primarily built in the draft and have QBs on rookie deals. The Seahawks especially have/had almost all of their impact players on rookie deals which meant they could go big on Harvin and other FA. 49ers are similar. Broncos paid big money to their QB and LT but most of the rest of their players were on rookie deals so again, they had money free. The Pats only pay their QB and fit all the other pieces around on short term deals.

Panthers haven't been able to get their because their draft depth has been poor and the terrible contracts. Complaining that "Oh but look at all the guys these other teams are bringing in!" That's called cap flexibility; it's what happens when you don't sign two RBs to $42 million in guarantees, a breaking down MLB to big money, etc.

I think it's becoming pretty clear this front office thinks the WR draft is deep enough to get multiple long term options. We all know it's deep, but they may have their eye on some 3rd/4th round guys who would be equal to anyone currently on the market. I don't think we're looking for anything more than stop gaps in the FA market.
Id love like Benjamin in the 1st and another in the 3rd and 4/5. I like the WF receiver (Campellero or however it's spelled). But I'd still like some vets because it can take time for adjustments.

I came in here to get a little perspective from people who know the team better than me. What is going on with the panthers?? They let their top 3 WRs go and signed literally nobody? I thought they would at least get Hakeem Nicks. I feel like releasing Steve Smith was a huge mistake. So now they are going to draft all their WRs?

I think most of us thought they'd land one of Nicks/Jones, sign another vet guy like Cotchery, Rice, or someone, and draft 2-3 guys with at least 1 but more likely 2 being round 1-3. I don't thinking releasing Smith was a huge mistake (designating him post June 1 was though), losing LaFell is a good thing, and losing Ginn is meh.

As long as they get a couple vets cheap and get the draft right they're fine.

I wouldn't say that if they had signed anybody, but now it looks like they'll have a bunch of rookies with no veterans

There's still vets out there. Cotchery is visiting now, Holmes, Rice, etc.

But you're correct they'll be rookie/young guy heavy at the position.

I'm honestly not too worried about it.

I mean ever since Jenkins left, Carolina has had the worst interior defensive line in the NFL.. they were fukkin historically bad at some points throughout that time(roughly 5 years yikes).. going into the 2013-14 draft that hadn't changed and many were scratching heads as to why we didn't sign Mebane or one of the many other defensive tackles…

and then we double dipped and grabbed Star and Short and that seemed to have worked out pretty well, no?

I don't see why we can't do the same with wide receiver this year. Yeah we have other needs, but we had other needs last year as well. The fact this years draft is unusually deep at WR, I think we could hit even better than we did last year with DT.

DeSean Jackson is making quite a bit of money, but dear lord could you imagine him with Cam's arm? I feel like he'd have an incredibly large impact for us, for only a 3rd round pick..

I mean I hate to put us in even deeper cap hell, but maybe we could trade for him, and extend him. Add a couple years to the deal and make the cap hit manageable. If we turned his 3 remaining years into 5, we could probably get the cap # down around $7-8m, have him until he's 32, and instantly eliminate any questions we had at wide receiver. Could then use our #1 for an OT and use the #2 on a WR instead of the opposite.

Thoughts? I know it's a dream scenario, but damn it'd be nice having a guy like him who could stretch the field and be a true homerun threat. Something we haven't had since Smitty lost his wheels a couple years back..

CB Terrell Thomas visited today. would be cool to sign him since he and Thomas Davis are the only players in the NFL to return from 3 torn ACLs in the same knee

Your missing the whole point, my point is plain and simple the panthers have been the only team that hasn't tried to help there young franchise player, Cam has carried this team for to long to be treated like a second rate citizen. I know all about the cap but that doesn't take away from the fact they didn't draft receivers in the past and now in FA they miss out on every WR even though we have the cap space.

And don't act like Hardy was the glue of our defense, I actually like that were tagging him cause the last thing I want to do is give him a Charles Johnson contract, FUK that. Pass rushers are easy to find, a dominant WR on the other hand is pretty hard. BTW check the Ravens and Seattle roster both of them had a ton of FA on there teams

I like the signing. Cason was decent in San Diego. Nothing spectacular but for the most part he had the Munnerlyn status there; good for what he does.

Our front 7 is going to earn a LOT of average/mediocre defensive backs' a lot of money.

Remember 2010/2011? Carolina under Chud made what was one of the best offensive improvements over the course of just one season, in NFL history? that was before he became an assh*le and fukked us over to get himself a job(and then immediately lose it lololllollollolollololo).. ANYWAYS

that year we relied HEAVILY on Greg Olsen andddddddddddd Jeremy effin Shockey. We don't even fukk with two TE's anyone, at least not like in that year when we ranked top 5 in damn near every team offensive statistic..

Owen Daniels is a name that intrigues me. Could easily nab him with a 1-2 year deal with almost no cap implications..

whatcha think? jump back on the two-TE offense oriented train?

I Rather have Cotchery than Lafell. Who's going to replace Ginn as the Punt returner?

Still dont understand. Smith was/is as productive as cotchery. Cotch is soon to be 32 which means he doesnt have too much left in the tank. I'm def not exited about this pick-up but given the horrible situation that our WR core is in..I guess its necessary.

Don't we still have Joe Adams? He was a nasty returnman in college maybe he will help out.

If all else fails just get Armanti back to return for us.
