Not going to pretend I know dick all about CFB prospects(unlike 90% of the sports misc future NFL GM's) so can't really evaluate. Benjamin is the only guy I've actually seen play and it was via youtube soooo yeah lol. Trusting Gettleman.

After having some time to think about it, I really like the pick of Ealy.

Even if we did go offensive line, think about it. One player isn't going to make that much of an impact for us. Our entire line is average at best with the exception of Kalil. So we can still find some rotational and plug and fit guys later in the draft. Relying on a collective rather than one guy. Plus Cam is mobile, we can get away with having a ****ty line sometimes. And let's be honest, Moses isn't that great of a talent that he's going to prevent us from going 3 and out like we do multiple times a game. So once we give the ball back to our D, we need someone who can make an immediate impact.

So we grabbed an exceptional pass-rushing talent at DE, because they can almost be a force by themselves. And that's on an average defensive front with no one to take pressure from him on the other side…. Imagine packages with Kony, Hardy, Johnson, Starr, Luke, and Davis, etc. all on the field at the same time… Makes me moist.

Add that to the fact we have uncertainty with Johnson and Hardy next season… I think it was a brilliant move.

And just to add to my point,

What were we saying a lot last season? Cam has to get rid of that ball, he has to throw it away, he can't take a sack in that situation.

With another season under his belt, Cam should have improved vision and understanding of the offense and be able to find guys quicker. Which should reduce the amount of hits he takes.

Also, something else we were saying last season was how our receives were HORRIBLE at getting any type of separation. Had guys like Brandon "no hands" LaFell trying to break free. And let's be honest, Smitty was never an exceptional route runner. His strength was going up and fighting for the ball. But hopefully Proehl, who always ran perfect routes, can help develop some of these young guys we've brought in. That will help mask our line as well.

Cotchery and Avant shouldn't really have that problem. both veteran guys who are supposed to be really good route runners. not sure about Underwood though

Benjamin's size will be his separation

I really wish I had some insider info that Gross was going to come back after camp and shiz, that'd be so awesome.

Happy with our picks so far. Our defense was significantly worse last year after CJ got leg whipped so this insures against that and also against Hardy/CJ leaving. Ealy was a top 25 talent brought in at pick 60. The Guard is gonna be a nice addition, we're rolling right along.

i honestly think Nate Chandler will beat out Bell for the LT spot. he was a former TE and is much quicker than Bell

I like the picks all around. Benjamin looks like he will have alot of upside. I liked Lee but alot of teams passed on him which indicates something. Benjamin is rare with his size and athleticism and will require the other defense to make a gameplan on him. He DOESN'T need to be a cooks and come in and catch 100 balls, thats now how panthers are set up. I see him more as a Vincent Jackson type guy and catch like 70 balls for 1k+ and 10 tds on a yearly basis. Panthers still want to run the ball and with Benjamin and Underwood out there they will def not be able to stack up vs us.

Panthers nabbed Kony because he was a steal at where they landed him. Hardy might end up like Peppers and bouncing next year and Kony will be able to play there and not leave us screwed. I have no reason to question Gettleman, hes made good picks every year and put together some good Giants teams in NY. I too was expecting Moses but everything ive read says hes best suited as a right tackle which may indicate he doesnt have as much upside as wed like. ALOT of other teams passed on him as well. Im sure they have a plan to address the position and we can always use big ass TOLB to help block on those 3rd downs.

Anyone know much about that guard? Looked big as fuark and was running through people in the vid they showed.

We are winning the draft.

I wanted M.Lee but did you see all the teams that passed on him? There had to be a reason. Benjamin has tons of upside.
Mocks have said Ealy was the 2nd best pass rushing in the draft and some of them projected him to us in the first rd. WE GOT HIM AT 60!
Turner is great and should be a starter.

a couple of things about taking Benjamin over Lee i've noticed.

1) Benjamin is a pretty damn good run blocker and that is a requirement in the Panthers offense. i'm not sure what kind of a run blocker Lee is, but i doubt he'd be enthusiastic about it where Benjamin wants to do it
2) go watch some "tape" of Lee. he doesn't use his hands nearly as much to catch the ball as he does his chest/pads where Benjamin uses his hands almost exclusively to catch the ball. also, people wanna point out Benjamin's drops, but i think i saw that Lee had the highest drop % in FBS last year

Lee was tops in drop% and Benjamin was second, kinda a wash.

I'm happy to have all 3 of these guys.

If we draft Pierre Desir today I may literally nut I just hope I'm at home and not in public if/when it happens… We could use a 6' + corner in a division that now features VJax, Evans, Semen-Jenkins, Graham, Colston, Julio… fuark.

On a side note would also love to have Bryant or Ellington on board, too.

Edit - Listened to Ealy's interview and was impressed. Kid seems humble and says the right things for sure. Also the fact that he played 3tech on all 3rd downs for Mizzou this year so they could bring on an extra pass rusher is something we will exploit. On passing downs we will feature a DLine of Star, Ealy, Kraken, CJ… we'll never need to blitz, ever.

ftfy

and yeah, i guess it is a wash b/t Lee and Benjamin with drops. i think Benji can fix his though b/c it looked like they came from him trying to run before he secured the pass rather than just bad hands/concentration

So mad that the Browns snagged Desir after already having Haden and Gilbert on roster now… kind of scratching my head at what we saw in Boston but it's late so who knows.

Just read a article that said he played corner in freshman and sophmore seasons and could maybe fill in where we lost munnerlyn. Also said Godfrey can play the position. Godfrey restructured and makes like 700k a year now lol, cant believe he didnt just say pay me and cut me

he'd be making the same amount of money he is now if we had cut him haha. basically it was cut me, pay me 750K and i'll find a team and battle it out for a spot or cut my pay to 750K and i'll stay in Carolina and play nickel

Saw we took Tre boston out of UNC.. For anyone who didn't watch him play in college, dude was a beast. Was always around the ball making plays. Great tackler too.

Tre Boston is decent at coverage. Not a great tackler by any means, though. I've watched more UNC football games than anyone on this board. His tackling is suspect.

And not understanding the Tyler Gaffney pick right now. Possibly cutting D-Will? James Hurst seemed like a better pick in the 6th round.

We may be in play for Roos from the Titans in FA. With Godfrey restructuring and cuts still to be made, we will have more cap space than people realize in the next few months.

Not a fan of Benjamin whatsoever, so I won't even go there but both Ealy and Boston are two guys I liked a lot. Ealy has outstanding potential, tremendous length on him, will be a great DE for you guys. Boston is a nice versatile defensive back who can play safety or cornerback, has some major ups, still has one of the crazier INT's I've ever seen before.

Don't try to throw it over the top on that dude. I like both of those picks a lot, good job Gettleman.

I don't love the tre boston pick. He has great upside but was a suspect tackler as wasn't phenomenal in coverage. Whatever. Gettleman and crew obviously saw something.

He might be better off at CB even, who knows, has good size for the position. 49ers drafted Dontae Johnson who is a pretty lousy tackler, definitely going to have him play CB. Gettleman might have the same idea with Boston.

Yep. I wish we had drafted Johnson but I will agree he is not a great tackler. He is just so long and athletic though. I feel like we should have drafted a true corner though. Not one Of these corner/saftey hybrids.

Darn. I was hoping we would snag Tajh Boyd. He would be a great backup for us and would be good for our receivers to have a similar QB throwing to them while Cam is out.

I know its sacrilegious around here not to agree with every Gettlemen pick but HOLY S**T those have been some horrible picks today.

We have 4 safeties in our roster and we pick another one? and another phucking running back? good lord. That's basically implying the Barner pick was a mistake.

What happen to picking multiple receivers? We need a burner (not Underwood)

It seems like the front office cares more about the future then winning next season.

Hurney drafted for need. Look where that got us.

Future moves yet to be seen by Gettleman…
