I'm not confident of Crotchety as a starter. He only started one game last year in a 3 reciever set. The panthers probably should look at others receivers who could be cut or released. For example, Blackmon or Johnson.

just because Cotchery didn't "Start",doesn't mean that he wasn't productive. he had just as many catches and yards as LaFail who DID start and 10 TDs compared to LaFail's 4.

also, Blackmon is suspended indefinitely and Stevie Johnson is already in San Fran

I meant Andre Johnson but that might require a trade. Also backups to starters never transition well.

Cotchery will be fine. He'll most likely be our 4rd guy, anyway… 4rd guy on a run first team… let that sink in.

1. Olsen
2. Benjamin
3. Avant
3.5 Cotchery

Out of everything going on with the Panthers you're worried about our 4th receiver?

Sounds Kind of crazy when you think about our receiving lineup…then all you have to do is pull stats

Olsen 73 816 11.2 6
Smith 64 745 11.6 4
LaFell 49 627 12.8 5
Ginn 36 556 15.4 5

Surely these guys are capable of doing AT LEAST this much

that's not an accurate representation of how the Steelers used him.

He "started" for a team that frequently went with standard 2-TE/FB sets to start games. He was the 3rd WR behind Emmanuel Sanders and Antonio Brown, until it came time to be in the red zone, where he caught 8 TD passes. Now, I'm not saying he'll do the same for you, but worrying about the "starter" designation isn't nearly as relevant as realizing he led the Steelers in TD receptions, red zone TDs, and had as many first downs as Sanders despite being targeted almost 50 less times. He's a smart dude who gets open and moves the chains.

That's why we need 2k to start making football games again. Their ratings were so much more accurate.

Thought it was interesting that Tavarres King was being listed on the tweeters on 1st team O today.

from all accounts King, McNutt and Benjamin got a LOT of reps today. also, Brandon Williams was said to have had a big day.

Bell and Chandler were rotating at both RT and LT for 1st team O

1st team secondary was Harper, Decoud, White, and Cason w/ Benwikere/Godfrey at nickel. Benwikere is getting high praise from Rivera

Cam was throwing on the sideline and threw some routes to KB after practice. already building that chemistry on and off the field

today, and every Wednesday for that matter, is the only day that media are allowed to attend

KB will replace King in short order but that's no surprise. Good to see some of the guys are making the most of their opportunities. According to Panthers app on my phone Bene had a nice pick today. Godfrey also talking like he's got his swag back after the injury. Hope so on all accounts.

thats one of the things I really like about Gettleman. he will give young guys a shot to run with the 1's to see if they sink or swim. he truly wants to see competition and if a younger guy is better, then they play.

Our O would've been better statistically last year had there not been so many drops. it seriously seemed like there were more drops last year than previous years with Cam. and they came at the worse times possible

getting Cotchery and Avant in here will give Cam at least a couple of reliable options to move the chains along with Olsen

Probably so. But I feel like speed is often one of the more overrated aspects in football.

A WR that runs a 4.3 40 time is blazing. One that runs a 4.6 is slow. The reality of that is that if they were put wide open on a field without pads it would take they could run half the field with less than a half seconds difference. Less than half a second. That's nothing. It'd take over 120 yards at those speeds for there to be even one seconds worth of separation. Speeds awesome when utilized properly but in a vacuum I think technique and instinct are far superior abilities. In todays NFL I think that shuttle drills and lateral quickness is much more important than flat out speed, because with EVERYONE being so fast, the really fast guys don't have quite as much of an advantage as they used to.

While I agree that speed can be overrated, there is a HUGE difference between a 4.3 and 4.6 40 dash. Half a second over a hundred yards for top athletes is a very noticeable distance. But the rest I totally agree with.

A 40 time is more of a explosiveness measurement than a speed measurement. A 40 is helpful because it shows how quick you get off the line. A player can be slower than another through 100 yards and have a worse 40 time.

I know 40 speed is overrated, if you look at Benjamin play at FSU he has wheels for someone that was 6'5 240. I only hope we have a deep threat to scare defenses a little.

Totally agree. These vets that know how to beat a jam, run a proper route and secure a catch will be what we need. All a receiver needs is the slightest separation. Were not a big play offense, were are a run first team that likes to keep the chains moving and rely on our defense to keep us in good position. Benji doesnt need a fast 40, hell noone that size has a immaculate 40 except megatron and hes one of a kind. With Benjis wing spand, if Cam can target a high ball there's no way a little db is going to take it from him. Keep in mind hes also like 30 lbs heaver than alot of those DBS.
