When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home.

We are proud of him for losing weight. And will continue to encourage him.

Maybe hit up a pool hall or museum, whatever gets him out. Whenever the time feels right I would just ask him something along the lines of "you ever wish you could go back in time and tell your past self not to do something?". Listen to what he says and respond as necessary.
He's ten years old and already lying to his buddies in a desperate attempt to impress them.. If I listen in on his convos, he'll drop at least one lie every time. He's even made up a fake girlfriend to talk about. Tells his pals about her constantly. To me, the most concerning part is that, like Godfrd, my nephew has very high social needs, but low social appeal. He's husky, unathletic, zero sense of humor....my biggest fear is that once he's inevitably ostracized by his peers, he'll end up wasting his life seeking out validation on some stinky internet forum like Reddit. All while getting fatter and more miserable every day.
How can I turn this around, fellas? Is there any hope? Understand, this isn't a joke and certainly not intended to slur Godfrd in any way.

Then I would propose the question to myself and say "When I was around your age I would put so much focus on faking and lying about who I was that I never really discovered who I really was. I wasted so much time keeping up the act and by the time I realized it, years have gone by and I truly had nothing to show for it. I had no friends, no girls and out of shape. I had to start late and far behind the pack, it was hard and I wish I could tell my kid self to be true and accepting of yourself. It is a lot more work to keep up the facade than it is to do the actual work."
Gauge his reaction and tie it into what you saw the other day, something like "Listen, I am bringing this up because I am concerned for you going down the path I did around your age. No one was there to give me a reality check when I needed it most, I intend on breaking the cycle. I want to see you live your best and I want to help you out nephew". Go workout with the kid, try to get him into something other than the internet or reddit. Even better if you both start something new together, join a BJJ or some other league that would put you guys in the same class, show him what humility and improvement mean. Also, where the fuck is dad?
