What do you expect to inherit? (SRS)

i will be inheriting 50% of a home worth at least 800 grand. i will also likely be inheriting other assets valued at more than 100K.

i will be using this money to fund my retirement srs. feels good that i can live a chill life where working is optional.

i know that 500K CAD is not a huge amount. i plan on working regardless, but having 500K as a backup feels good.

also i plan to retire in a country with a lower cost of living. maybe somewhere in Asia, Europe, or South America.

You don't know that your parents aren't going to live to 100, though. Then you're screwed.

I came really close to inheriting half my mother’s estate , but unfortunately my sister was the executor, and refused to show me the Will after mom passed .

yeah i know the inheritance is not 100% guaranteed. multiple factors can come up, such as unexpected medical bills costing tons of money (although that likely won't happen in Canada with public healthcare).

the chances are high that i will inherit a substantial amount by the time i reach retirement age though.

boyo i hope you spoke to a lawyer about this. you could sue your sister and there would be a decent chance the courts would side in your favor if she acted shady about it.

lol, ya the lawyers are loving it. I knew there was going to be an issue when my sister kept saying she’s done so much for mom. I phoned my mom on occasion , I’m 8 hours away , and said how’s my sister . Moms like son she lives 15 minutes away and I talk to you more than her .
For fk sales , my mom was dying from MS . If I lived 25 fking minutes away I would have seen her daily

At least you’ll be able to live off that for a couple years before you spend the rest of your life on welfare.

it sucks that somebody who is supposed to be your family would be that willing to screw you over.

it's a cold world out there. now imagine what non-family is capable of doing.

If she violated the intention of the will you have legal claims against her.

An executor cannot just do whatever they want.

If you were supposed to get something, and you didn’t, you need to talk to a lawyer.

She will owe you the value of what you lost in damages. She can’t claim the estate doesn’t exist so she doesn’t owe anything. She can fucking sell her house.
