That's exactly what happened in my situation. Amicable. Simple. Some sadness, but overall we're ok.

I'm getting divorced after 10 years. Since CA is 50-50 neither of us are getting screwed, nor would we want to do that to each other. No lawyers, dividing all assets equally. I am keeping the house and buying out her 50%, since she can't qualify for refinance and she just wants to rent anyway.

If you can't choose the right woman to marry, at least find the right woman to divorce. We plan on staying really good friends.

If you don't recognize that kind of behavior before deciding to marry the woman, you deserve to get screwed in a divorce.

Just to add, my best friend also got divorced after 10 years of marriage and his wife also didn't try to screw him. No lawyers. They are still best friends.

Secondly - I'd have no control over the parachutes, which is why I'd never go parachuting under any circumstances.
The refined divorce rate - the number of divorces per 1,000 married woman - includes only those people at risk of divorce, so social scientists and demographers see it as preferable to the crude rate. Using this routine, the divorce rate ranged from a low of 14.3 in North Dakota to a high of 34.5 in Washington, D.C.,for a national average of 19.4, according to National Center for Family and Marriage Research.Using this regime, in 2008, divorce fell from a rate of 17 divorces per 1,000 married women in 2007 to 16.9 per 1,000 married women.
So really 20% which is 1/5 marriages....So yeah I don't think I'd step outside if there was a 1/5 risk of a bus hitting me.

The article also doesn't mention what it uses for criteria forat risk of divorcewhich could be genuinely solid criteria or very lousy and not inclusive.

I work with a dude who when they split, they just went their own ways. Each filed taxes as individuals and each were responsible for their own outcome. They didn't have kids, but also didn't have to pay any alimony, even though the judge pushed for his ex to accept it. She said she didn't want him in her life anymore and that she could do it on her own.

That dude lucked out and I asked him why they split. I guess they just wanted different things and changed over time. Luckily it was early enough that they didn't have any kids or anything else cause that could have gotten messy.
wtf is this? bias of peace. I'd be livid if I were the dude and the judge was doing this.

I tried to remain friends with my ex, but ultimately I had to move on/away in order to be fair to the next romantic relationship in my life. Just too weird for that person if you're still having lunch out with your ex wife lol.

When I was married, my wife had 100% of my stuff, and my ballz, too. Now she only has 50% of my stuff, and I have my ballz back. I think divorce is a pretty good deal.

My wife is getting 50% of the stuff and ~25% of my earnings(kids). Even though I am going to have less money, I am stoked I will have 100% control MY money.

Pretty much the biggest reason I am leaving my wife. If it weren't for me, we'd have no money and be homeless. She's lucky there is even anything to split.

Inthe cloud 9 phase we used to talk about being happy even living in a cardboard box. I think she meant literally. LOL. I didn't work so hard my whole life just to throw it all away because she can't control her spending.

The older I get the less I have issues paying to make my problems go away.

The best course, in todays society, is just not to get married. If you get married to a miserable kunt, writing a check each month to not have to put up with their sh*t isnt such a bad option.

It sucks to have less money but you cant put a dollar sign on piece of mind.

I think in a lot of divorces that's how it starts out, until the divorce lawyers and her bitter friends sink their teeth in her and convince the woman that she "deserves" this or is "entitled" to that. Next thing you know she's eating it up and going after finances and assets that she never would've thought about otherwise.

It really is the lawyers fault and it's all about they money they get out of it. They don't care that they are stealing money from couples that probably could have gotten a divorce at 1/10 the cost and taken 1/10 the time. They use fear to make their money.

Percentage of marriages ending in divorce

http://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulati...ing-in-divorce(number 10 in contents).

"In 2011, it was estimated that 42% of all marriages end in divorce (assuming 2010 divorce and mortality rates throughout the duration of marriage)....

Compared with figures from 2005 (244.2 Kb Pdf), the percentage of marriages which end in divorce decreased from 45% in 2005 to 42% in 2010."

LOL @ coping. Divorce rates are usually 42-45%.

I got divorced a little over a year ago. If you have a specific question I'll try to answer.

How it worked for me was this. I had to pay to buy her out of my assets. I got to keep my 2 houses and one of my cars. She got to keep the other car (just happened to be the better car but whatever). She inherited the loan along with that car.

She had already taken most of the furniture from my house way before the actual divorce so that stuff was irrelevant (I bought new stuff right after she left).

I had to pay alimony for a year (ended last December). I have to pay child support for 2 kids (7 more years for one of them and 10 more for the other).

We have joint custody but don't live in the same states. I get them for vacations and whenever I have time off basically. I also get them for about half the summer.

^This. I divorced my ex recently. Married 10 years, together almost 15. She has a good job, so do I. We've found out we are way better off apart, especially financially. We both have bought our own houses after the divorce. And, for the most part, we are still friends. Then again, seeing on here and listening to friends who have gone through separation/divorce, I consider myself lucky since my ex wasn't a crazy bitch.

That won't help the 99% of people who get married. Most people acquire things DURING the marriage and thus it's all community property. Also the kids is a major issue. Also, if she didn't make as much $ as you, that's a potential issue. None of those would be protected by a prenump because they didn't exist before the marriage. Only assets acquired before the marriage would be protected with a prenump.

Usually that's what happens but not always. I got to keep my 2 houses and 1 of the cars. She didn't get to keep that chit although I did have to buy her out which is normal.

My GF is divorced too. She did not get chit from her divorce and in fact pays her ex child support.

not really how it works, no.

If the couple made $100,000 together, each person is entitled to a $50,000/yr standard of living for the alimony period which I think is usually 1/2 the time of the marriage? Someone help me out here.

Child support works like this:

Person A makes X per year. They owe %X in child support per year.
Person B makes Y per year. They owe %Y in child support per year.

Subtract the %Y from %X and that is what the higher income earner pays (Person A).

If your spouse makes the same no one pays child support. No one gets alimony. Stay at home wives are not entitled to continue to stay at home after a divorce. If you are drawing child support, and are able to work, you must work.

How did you get away with only having to pay alimony for a year?

Normally is it 1/2 the length of the marriage, right? I'm looking at 5 years.

That feel when you bring home 4x what she does.

Nope. Money wasn't the only problem. We are pretty much exact opposites on everything. Tired of the constant compromise.

You will never know your limits, unless you push yourself past the imaginary lines you have drawn in the sand.

Yeah without getting super technical this is the point of my comment. I'm well aware how the divisions are done, but it does not always work out that way. Plus I'd wager in most divorces one member is unemployed willingly (or the income disparity is large), thus putting the other in a worse situation. Not to mention a lot of you guys are putting too much faith in the system. I know numerous people who got completely shafted and continue to get shafted.
