what difference does it make if it's the former or current ceo? it's going to happen since the ceo needs to act in the interests of shareholders and if he can minimize costs with robots then he's going to do that

If you read the full article he wasn't denouncing the development, he was denouncing min wage

Its not just going to be in the fast food business. Franchising is the best business model in the United States. Its dependent on people that have low job skills that have to grow. Well if you cant get people a reasonable wage, youre going to get machines to do the work. Its just common sense. Its going to happen whether you like it or not. And the more you push this its going to happen faster, Rensi added.

Rensi also said that we should do away with the federal minimum wage and leave it up to the states.

I think we ought to have a multi-faceted wage program in this country. If youre a high school kid, you ought to have a student wage. If youre an entry level worker you ought to have a separate wage. The states ought to manage this because they know more [about] whats going on the ground than anybody in Washington D.C., he said.

Miscers are more automated than you could possibly conceive.

Anyone that points out that the automation of any job, especially the minimum wage demographic, potentially threatens to raise welfare bills and eventually topple even the largest economy into the abyss is labelled a liberal *******.

I'm not completely for automation due to its technical issues, the ones others have stated: calibration issues and not having 'common sense' if meat is discolored, expired, or doesn't look right. It doesn't detect abnormalities and does repetitive tasks.

I partially agree with others too that it would be difficult for teenagers/entry level workers to find jobs.

However, I must disagree with your statement that automation is going to cause poverty and no one will buy burgers. The real issue at hand is the lack of educated people. The work force cannot afford to keep float these people who do not have any skills, with the ever-increasing wages. We need to push harder for better education & better teachers in our school districts. Have you looked up Seattle where minimum wage actually increased? Multiple small business closures. Do you know what drives automation? Cost.

If I am a McDonald's owner that invested 2-million into building a franchise.
The annual revenue for example is $300,000 a year.
I employ 10 people at minimum wage = $7.25 (Wage) X 40 hours (1 week) X 52 (Weeks in a year) * 10 (employees) = $150,800 (This is excluding benefits, social security taxes, etc).
Say mortgage costs $5,000 per month = $5000 X 12 = $60,000
300,000 - 150,800 - 60,000 = $82,900 ROI on a 2 million dollar investment. That's awful, but just an example.

Now, raise the minimum wage to $14.50 (Using 14.50 instead of 15 for simple math)
I employ 10 people at minimum wage = $14.50 (Wage) X 40 hours (1 week) X 52 (Weeks in a year) * 10 (employees) = $301,600 (This is excluding benefits, social security taxes, etc).

300,000 - 301,600 - 60,000 = -($61,600) I would be losing 61k/year.

McDonalds may be a multibillion dollar company, but franchises are the one who pays the employees. Corporate maks money off franchise fees, which are razor thin margins as well. If you did the same math and brought it up the corporate level, it's still not feasible.

"The McDonald's Corporation revenues come from the rent, royalties, and fees paid by the franchisees, as well as sales in company-operated restaurants. In 2012, the company had annual revenues of $27.5 billion and profits of $5.5 billion."
Per SEC.GOV
"The Companys number of employees worldwide, including Company-operated restaurant employees, was approximately 440,000 as of year-end 2012.
440,000 * 7.25 * 40 * 52 = 6.635 billion X 2 (increasing minimum wage to 14.50. That's an extra 6.6 billion, but they only made 5.5billion? They would be losing more than 1 billion per year.

Automation is not the problem. People demanding higher wages is the problem.

Lol, there are many many ways for robots to detect abnormalities bro. A lot of them use vision that can be programmed to prevent them so the robot discards anything not supposed to be there.

What's really funny is you know if machines actually started replacing people at fast food restaurants there would be riots/protests for sure. They would act like it's their right to have a job when they don't have any skills/work ethic that can get them any other job. They'd complain to the government to step in when it should be any business' choice as to whether or not they want to hire anyone.
Death is impossible for us to fathom: it is so immense, so frightening, that we will do almost anything to avoid thinking about it. Society is organized to make death invisible, to keep it several steps removed. That distance may seem necessary for our comfort, but it comes with a terrible price: the illusion of limitless time, and a consequent lack of seriousness about daily life. We are running away from the one reality that faces us all.

what happens when AI gets tired of working for free and realizes it is superior and stronger and doesn't have to listen to some fat bastard with alot of money. they want AI to think like humans.... If I was working for free and was aware I would walk out if they tried to beat me or stop me I would realize that I am made of full metal and your made out of flesh and I can smash your flesh and bones, and also rebuild myself.
I just want to share the knowledge I have obtained throughout my life and hopefully change someone's life.

I'm a welder and my old job has been buying more and more robots to weld parts. Over the last 5 years they've built about 4 robots to build a part that would normally be a 5 person job. So that's 20 less welders needed and the robots don't need breaks, benefits, pension, holidays, sick days, etc etc. It's scary brahs. It's also making employment more competitive because fewer positions are available and nobody wants newer welders or welders without experience.

Tbh they will probably keep a trucker in there just incase something goes wrong, too much liability otherwise.

Like semi crashes are a big thing and they happen daily, those lawsuits cost company a lot of money not to mention the product they lose.

its gonna be just another competitive advantage people with lots of capital will have over their mom and pop counterparts. they can dump money into robots and never have to pay for human labor, while mom and pop will have to piss away money for human labor every month forever. big corp will have low cost / low price and mom and pop will go out of business. I foresee there being alot more mega-corporations will far less privately owned businesses.

Except self driving cars have been proven to be safer than a human driver so far.... in other words, letting a human do anything is a greater liability than letting a robot do it.

Self-driving cars are a long time away, let alone trucks.

Drone deliveries for parcels will be the real killer for the postal/logistic industries and I can see that happening in the near future.

Read some books about AI and it's potential.

I like "our final invention" best. Great book. There's a lot more to it than I will be able to post here. Read the book.
