Yeah and there were electric vehicles available 20 years ago, yet we're all still driving petrol cars.

I wouldn't expect commercial truckers to be out of a job for at least 10+ years.

I feel it, but for the case of semi driving accidents, it's mostly because the truckers are way too tired driving 12 hour days and get exhausted when coffee wears off, and are pressured hardcore to drive faster because of quotas and risking getting fired.

Keeping somebody in the truck and not paying them as much is probably a good way to start. And what if the semi has a problem backing into the warehouse to deliver goods (tight places), better to keep somebody there so it doesn't bash into walls.

MILLIONS! do you honestly think a company would spend millions on a robot to replace one person who makes 60k/yr? it would never pay for itself. also, the maintenance costs would be astronomical. if a human falls down the stairs, he goes on workers comp for a few months and it only costs a few thousand. what happens when the robot falls down and get complexly ****ed? it would cost way more to fix and maintain. it is simply not logical. yes robots are smart for what you program them for, they can take orders at mcdonalds, but its a pipe dream to think they are a smart alternative to human labor.

now use that same logic on every other possible job that isnt some mindless cashier job and see if it pans out....

I'm not arguing about the technology, I'm arguing against the uptake, especially with commercial heavy vehicles.

Once the corporations/government even makes the decision to go ahead, that's going to be a very slow process. Even if the tech was PERFECT, it would take a government years to implement it.

So I would say these driving jobs are safe for 10 years.

Like I already said, the second it becomes financially feasible they will. Why would a business hire mutiple long-haul drivers who are often sleep depraved and running on upper's to force themselves to stay awake when they can hire a robot that can drive non-stop and doesn't ever get tired.

When that time comes the truckers will be replaced regardless of whatever their wage is and whatever the minimum wage is at the time. Which is exactly what I previously said and that somehow makes me retarded

automation won't be within food processing any time soon, IMO.

for now, it'll just be self ordering kiosks. they can cut down the number of employees by upwards of 5+ if everyone is using machines to place their order.

food runners and food makers will be able to get a raise, due to the decreased number of people taking peoples orders and it'll make the MCD experience better, more accurate, and faster.
