If god didn't exist then how are there even hbbs? Hbb has the words "heavenly" and "blessed" in it.
Also, science edgelords, if your religion is so good then how come science can't create this:

Or this:

Or even this:

Science only creates gay chit like fermi lab and stupid head transplants. Gotta try harder, boyos.

I don't think religion is the problem, I actually like religion. I think literalist/traditional interpretations of religion are a problem.
I have no problem with Muslims, Christians, Jews, Buddhist, Hindus, etc who are humanists.
I also think that the combination of stories, myth, and art that religion tends to combine so well is something vital for a fulfilling emotional life.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JH493NsM31Y
Agnostic, science popularizer and critic of religion Carl Sagan knew the importance of myth, art and stories, and combined them in his TV and book Cosmos. If anyone has read and/or watched Carl Sagan's Cosmos you'll know that he was an expert at combining myth and science, every chapter of the series and book had a mythical title.
His books were as much about popularizing science as promoting a narrative of appreciation and common humanity.
I've slowly become more and more interested in myth, after I realized the benefit it can have on the appreciation of life.

Religion and science do not have to be at odds...

Having said that, at this point it's willful ignorance. The information is right there and it's in any format you could want - from diagrams and videos that a 3 year-old could understand to highly advanced research papers.
It's not just ignorance, it's the desire to know the answers to questions that science couldn't possibly explain, but that religious organizations make good money from pretending to know the answers to: the notion of an afterlife. That's literally the only thing religious people ultimately care about. All the teachings of kindness, compassion, brotherhood, charity etc. etc. are aimed at one thing: buying you a ticket to heaven and avoiding hell at all costs.
Until science can somehow fill that void of uncertainty, people will keep flocking to the snake-oil merchants.

tired of all the anti religiosity spiel...when I see liberals, climate change alarmists, trump supporters and music stans I realize people are willing to believe any amount of stupid chit provided it coddles to their emotions and ego.
Pol Pot, Mao, Stalin, Hitler all proved that you dont need a religion to commit mass slaughter and descent into regressive stupidity

I hate people like u...have probably never actually participated in a STEM degree. "Science" is not religion. There is a reason why philosophy and STEM faculties dont cross paths. Science doesnt exist to fill any void of anything, it exists purely to test hypothesis and alter them where applicable. Its not a tool to be used in politicized bull****.
There are no answers, only questions and proposed theories. Philosophy doesnt seek to merely buy one entry into heaven, if thats what you surmise then the problem may be due to your own interpretation rather than the religion itself.
The only problem I have with the lack of belief is that no one seems to stand for anything or believe in anything anymore. Only what they dont want. These unending smugness, where people think because of the democratized forms of information accrual (and I mean the internet - though its now hardly what I would call democratized) that they're somehow smarter than anyone else.

Popularizers of science, artists, and philosophers can.
I do agree that alternative narratives to traditional/literalist religion are necessary for people to leave religion. However, I also think narratives are necessary to have a meaningful life in general.
I wouldn't be so harsh on religion, I think we all need a 'meta narrative' - a story that gives our lives a sense of meaning and purpose - to guide us in life. Even vehemently anti-religious people have a story of purpose/mission in their lives (eg. become the best version of themselves, leave a legacy, take care of their family, etc) and a way of consoling themselves during tough times - religion just provides that on a grander scale.

nothing is more amusing that watching european fukktards complain about religion and then whine about millions of muslims pouring through the border and "taking over"...the irony is immense. The problem with religion is that it didnt bother to modernize. Catholicism, in particular, failed to embrace scholarly questioning rather than just wholesale regurgitating. What spread in its place was communism and cultural marxism, just another indoctrination tool where the young now treat the state as god rather than any higher power. Problem is that the state is dysfunctional and a shadow of its former self.

Narrative is important. People need a narrative for their lives. Look at the misc, a backward bunch of beta males going nowhere who dont seem to have any real goals in life rather than getting swole and getting pussy. Surprise, surprise 95% of this forum achieves neither. They're pointless goals in the grand scheme of things and those who do achieve them often end up being unfulfilled.
What the soviet union so compelling whats its ideals of liberty, to achieve prosperity for all of those within it. Yes, they failed in that effort. Failked spectacularly. But the ability for that movement to mobilise half a continent is pretty telling. The same goes for Osteen, he seems to be a half decent pastor who empower people with the belief that the sum of their lives is more than their car and their mortgage. Again is he committing any sin?
The robber barons who run this crony capitalistic society have convinced us that buying endless amounts of material bullchit means something. We line their pockets and they sink further and further into depravity because we allow them to. Surprise, surprise an empty and morally bankrupt culture is run by empty and morally bankrupt people.

because they require at least a basic understanding of the sciences, and if your highest level of education is high school or you're in college pursuing a non STEM based degree you simply won't remember or understand the prerequisites to even begin proper discussion.

implying science isn't like how the church was way back in Galileo's time
go against it and you're ridiculed
these people hold their theories as absolute truth and will do anything to protect this reality of theirs against anything that will contradict their ideas
