I think the difference here is that religion has had "4000" years to make its case and any dissent towards it was met with death whereas science deniers are legitimately willfully ignorant about a lot of chit that should be basic knowledge to the rest of the world (things that have real life applications that can be replicated in a lab), and i'm not talking about quantum mechanics I mean incredibly basic chit like eclipses and tides and the basics of natural selection.

A lot of scientists whose research is relevant to the topic are not Atheist but Agnostic, but yeah sounds like a good idea OP, telling people what to believe usually works out well.

religion still serves some purpose: religious fanatics will always continue to kill each other which is a form of population control.

with advancements in medicine and technology we're really going to see our population get out of control so we might as well let the nutjobs continue to eliminate each other. just keep it off my front lawn.

Hmmmm

well first we need to actually figure out how human beings will even be able to cross the radiation belt. Secondly GPS was discovered by the US military, so if there is anyone you should be dickriding, its them. After all, the person who may break the concept of intersellar travel could be sitting in some shack dying of starvation because some politic playing fukktard kept the government money for himself instead of building a school and public services.

Also fourthly, satellite communication had dick all to do with space travel either. You have the US Navy to thank for that.

I can see it being a possibility, but even that will change;

-hundreds of years ago, only the rich ate food with salt and spices because it was a precious commodity.

-a hundred or so years ago only the rich were undergoing ground breaking surgeries.

-and in the future only the rich will be going to space. But once it becomes readily accessible to everyone or when they get tired of doing blue collar work on said planet they'll start sending peasants to the new planet to do work for them.

The DoD used R&D from NASA to create GPS, and at the current rate we are going there is no saving the rest of the impoverished 3rd world we've been throwing money and food and military protection at them for decades. Space is the next frontier in human advancement and being able to willfully get off this rock will probably be the thing that saves us as a species.

that's nonsensical religious garbage created by the people to keep society in order. God doesn't work that way. There is no good or bad, wrong or right. Things are as is. Now, if you visit Valhalla with that attitude of yours, God gonna punish you. God doesn't like when science tries to disprove him but can't show enough proof because they haven't been to the end of galaxy, God hates that chit and it rustles him to the max. Bring enough proof and God will happily look over it, but don't argue something without having enough proof to back up your theory.

The extent of scientific knowledge an average religious person posesses: "Buncha chit theories based on fuk all." and OP thinks he can convince people like this to not believe in fairy tales they've been told over and over again are true since they were able to walk. Easier to teach a monkey Java.

"At the end of galaxy"-You do know there are aproximately one hundred billion galaxies in the observable Universe, right?

It's not their job to disprove God, it's the job of the believers to prove his existance. If this standard is not upheld then every lunatic who claims basically anything is right by definition until proven otherwise. If I came up to you IRL and told you there are invisible unicorns everywhere you would call me a crazy ******* and dismiss what I said as not being true, but if I told you there's a sky wizard watching your every move that's somehow true, even if I can't prove it...strong.

Isn't it petty for the creator of the Universe to get rustled?

bit like how you removed legimately elected democratic parties in over a dozen countries across the americas, asia and africa

LOL the biggest contirbutor to raising the poverty level has come from China which has a pretty succinct distrust of foreign "aide" of any kind

posters like you are part of the problem, you're woefully misinformed about the topics u dickride let alone the ones you dont. GPS technology didnt come from "data collected by NASA" at all. What the fukk are you on about?

You think going to space because Musk, or whichever other pop-science shill of the day told you it was cool. People who actually pay any attention realize that the amount of scientific and technological innovations coming directly from it have been paltry. What irritates me SO FUKKING MUCH about people like you is that you're not actually capable of critical thinking, you just replace one brainwashing tool (religion) for another (hollywood) and then just regurgitate it ad nauseum. In what way is space "the next frontier"?? Becuase Captain Kirk told you so? What could we possibly learn from space exploration to solve the myriad issues facing earth today, other than of course a viable "abandon ship" solution.

You can't ask religion to prove something because it doesn't work like science, you either believe it or you don't. Religion works on Faith.

Meanwhile, science works on research and proof.

so it's not religion job to prove something to science, it's other way around.

If someone wants to believe in monkey god. let them be. Who are you to tell them not to believe in it?

as a matter of fact, there is a monkey god in hinduism who eats bananas. I am intrigued by it but that doesn't mean I'm gonna start believing in it nor does it mean I'm gonna STOP them from believing in it.

Science can't be understood by faith and God can't be understood by logic, that's the best way I can put it.

Just thought I'd chime in here. Funny how potato you must be not to understand how much space travel has benefited us technologically so far. NASA has made a huge impact on miniaturization of many different technologies. Basically thank NASA for the size of your smart phone, camera and massive other list of things:https://spinoff.nasa.gov/Spinoff2008/tech_benefits.html

Humanity is not mentally, socially or culturally ready to walk away from religion. Virtually nobody is able to escape ridiculous belief structures yet. In my book religion is little different from national pride and patriotism. You're just swapping invisible friends for invisible/inconsequential geographical divides. Yet even I, being fully aware of how stupid all this sh*t is, care about my national rugby team and the Olympics.

Every single response in this thread is clearly written by people under one form of delusion or another. The people who are actually campaigning against religion are just doing it to distract themselves from their other forms of self-delusion. Especially the few of you arguing about the space program. No, it isn't causing people to starve. No, it isn't providing a good return on investment either financially or socially. No, doing it the way we are isn't going to lead to humanity EVER colonizing other planets. Yes, it does need to continue to be funded until someone with the right timing, vision, patience, lack of ego and charisma comes in to completely revolutionize our approach to space exploration and focus on the incremental steps necessary to make real meaningful advances rather than the trial and error approach we currently have (obviously this is dependant on your vision of where humanity should be heading).

Also, space is almost certainly not the next step in human advancement. We have plenty left that we can do right here on Earth. Genetic manipulation, quantumn physics and AI are probably going to take us to a new level of understanding and growth long before space becomes a real priority. But one day some of our experiments are going to be so big, so sensitive, involve so much power or have such a high risk factor that doing them on earth will no longer be feasible and one day humanity is going to need a plan for its continued existence rather than relying on just sitting on Earth orbiting the Sun.

And you're the only one who has got it all figured out, and are going to tell us how to think properly right?
