Cops have a bad rep because the job attracts a certain type of individual (power hungry two-faced douchebags). Before the late 2000's, piggie's with HS diplomas were recruited and given a few months "training". Then they were given a badge, a gun, a patrol car, and turned loose on the community. This resulted, predictably, in rampant abuse of power and a pissed off citizenship. Around 2010 bodycams became mainstream and departments became very strict due to nonstop lawsuits and complaints. This meant that the piggie's were no longer allowed I roam freely and if they abused power or broke the law themselves they were held accountable and punished. That's why suddenly the job became "harder" and many piggies quit. It was no longer a do-what-you-want-you-have-all-the-power job. We still have problems with them regarding their little "buddy system" where they let each other go when they break laws. But, I'm sure within a decade a system will be put in place preventing them from being allowed to do this as well.

Cops are complete *******s. Complete. Never in my life have I ever "needed" a cop. I handle every situation on my own just fine. I don't need some d-bag to show up and start throwing his weight around when he doesn't even know what the fuk is going on. My favorite though is when they confront people who clearly need help or rehab because their lives are chit and instead of helping they aggravate the situation by arresting the person and making them pay thousands in legal fees to fight a case. It's just brilliance all around. So much wisdom in that pigs head. I love it. I also love it when they gang up on someone smaller and intimidate and lie to the person to get them to incriminate themselves. Man those cops, I am so glad tax payers are paying to have them around.

But for real, I gotta hand it to them. They do a damn good job hiding in bushes with their little radar guns issuing tickets to people who commit victimless crimes going a little over the speed limit. That's what I call a REAL service to society.

I've thought about being a cop before but I'm not sure if I could do it. I wouldn't want to arrest or fine people for petty things. I could if I have to I just wouldn't enjoy that aspect or be proud of it. I had a friend that was trying to become a cop but he failed the polygraph test when they asked about prior drug use. I have another friend in school to become a cop but I haven't talked to him in a while and I'm not sure if he's still pursuing it.

These guys know whats up. Props to you OP for getting out while you are still young and having the brain to do so.

Police in my area do nothing more than rob honest people of their time and money, it really must be tough when literally every single person hates you, whether its the middle and upper class just getting fined and pulled over for going 5 mph over the limit that is way too damn low (exists only as a source of revenue these days, 55mph on highways was established after oil crisis in the 70s), wasting their time and money for this useless crap. and the lower class hates you for constantly being hassled and busted in the glorious war on drugs.

absolutely not cause its still federally illegal. i had no work experience prior other than working at a mechanic shop. all i had was education in criminal justice.

politics will always play a part in policing. and yes we have to respond to calls but also required by supervisors to deal with hs parties.

literally just tonight - minutes ago... i'm on my way home from work (almost midnight) i'm driving home not exceeding but maybe 38/39 in a 35 and i was pulled. it never happens, i was cool, and the cop initially told me i was going ABOUT 45 in the 35mph zone. i knew this was next to impossible for a couple of reasons but i didn't dispute it and he was cool and just gave me a warning. but, let's face it, he may have clocked me at 4 over MAX and pulled me to see if i was drinking because of memorial day weekend (i don't live in a bad area but it is by a "party" beach with a couple colleges...). what is your opinion and do you think he was following positive ethics? does being in the job long enough jade you into resorting to tactics like this? i'm torn - it could have been good because maybe i was a drunk driver and he picked up on it when he pulled me but I wasn't... i'm just a regular dude trying to get home and obeying (if not technically) all laws of the road. basically, i'm asking you to put yourself in my shoes but also reflect on your own experience.

interesting question. there are a few guys i worked with who had no business ever even applying to be a cop. most of them usually get washed out within their first year though. they stick out in the department.

as far as your other scenario goes theres a good chance he was using whatever bullchit petty reason to legally stop you to see if you're drunk. its pretty common for DUI enforcement. weaving, license plate lights, tail light out etc. all very minor offenses that 98% of most cops would never write a ticket for but it allows us to legally get face to face with you to see if you're drunk.
If you build it they will come.

What would you do if like a 17 year old teen had weed? Since its legal in Colorado would you arrest them cuz under 18? Ive seen kids arrested for tobacco lol

nah man we cant arrest people for weed unless they have a lot of weight. its just a $100 fine these days for anyone under 21. very similar to an MIP ticket.

hard to say. by policy at my last department we weren't allowed to stop anyone for anything less than 5 over. i agree with the tactic but don't necessarily agree with the way it was carried out on you. if you're going to stop someone for speeding, should probably have some sort of speed measuring device to back it up.
