Went to my first jujitsu class last night, was a beginner class.
I was paired up with a few smaller guys, it was mostly just techniques all night but at the end of the class we got to try somewhat for real with close supervision from the instructor. My partners were all regular guys and among the smaller ones in the class, none looked athletic. There was one other woman, but she was much larger than me and was paired up with some of the older overweight guys. I could not budge any of them.
I talked to the other woman after class and it seems she felt the same as me.
Needless to say, my ego is hurt a little. Did not realize how much of a strength difference between men and women.

What do you mean by that? I think men do have an advantage physically, but everything else is equal. In fact, women have some advantages over men too.

The thing is, I am big into crossfit and amateur bodybuilding (not one of those treadmill bunnies) so thought that I could handle myself with these guys. The guys in my group looked like they don't work out at all, and not to be mean but kind of geeky looking to be honest. The most surprising part to me was the difference in hand strength and their grips, spent all of my energy trying to break their grips and still could not do it.
I'm now thinking if its just me that was always weaker than I thought or is it purely a man versus woman thing. I always thought that men and women were equal in everythingwith men having a slight strength advantage, but was shocking how much weaker I was, I can't imagine trying to go against some of the stronger experienced guys like our instructor.

1) men have wider backs/shoulders, bigger hands/feet = longer levers
2) insertions of the muscles and tendons are further away from the point of rotaion (the joint) = better leverage
3) muscles and tendons themselves are bigger in size = force is distributed across more surface
4) muscles of men are stronger pound for pound because of testosterone

I think a lot of women can get fairy strong in lower body. I've seen some pretty impressive squat and deadlift numbers from women. Like substantially stronger than the average male. BUT bench? Not even close. We're talking like 25% of the strength of a man. I went rock climbing with my sis and I have zero rock climbing experience and I was destroying her on any walls that required a lot of upper body strength.

Males literally have every advantage in the world when it comes to sports. Plus they generally weigh more.
At least fight men that weigh the same as you. There is a big difference between 150 pounds and 120 pounds.
Strength training and martial arts training will help. At the end of the day though if you get in a real fight with a guy you better hope you get the first couple of hits. Real fights don't usually last long anyways.
If its a tournament thing its pretty much hopeless. There are always exceptions though.

Women have about 40-60% of a man's upper body strength and 60-70% of a man's lower body strength. Woman also have weaker grip than men, even trained vs untrained; all back by science.
We also have larger brains, are better with motor skills and, yunno, a schit ton of other things that are likely to be different between different sexes. Gender; it ain't a social construct.
