That's why you'll see me say on these boards, Muslims are further away from Islam today than they've ever been.

There are areas of the UK where there are big (often poor) Pakistani communities and they often have pretty literal interpretations of Islam. In those communities, as you say, there is a lot of hypocrisy eg. degenerate guys operate child sex rings while girls get killed for 'dishonouring' their family etc.
From what my dad tells me, Pakistanis in the UK used to be relatively progressive until the whole ME crisis started and gulf Arab states started to export more radical forms of Islam around the world. Sad to see, really.

IME being a muslim is largely a social identity for most muslims. However, that doesn't necessarily mean that it's trivial to them emotionally, it's just treated as social identity rather than principles to guide conduct, they can be violently offended if you criticize their 'people'.
However IME many tend to become more religious once they get above 40.

Are there extremes in islam that go as far as adultery being permitted to a child and sacrificing yourself for your God? I hear all these extreme ends but I never confirmed it with someone who's muslim.

I think, as they get older, maybe they start to see the value in more conservative behaviours.

I think how those gulf states possibly influence the UK muslim community as a whole (if what your dad says is accurate) is that they emphasized identity politics. Most muslims I've known, regardless of sect, declared an affinity to Islam above all other aspects of their identity.

The point about identity politics is also valid and is exemplified by the 'Islam is under attack' mantra that these gulf states have exported in order to militarise Pakistanis and recruit them into terrorist groups.
It's also worth mentioning how the collapse of much of Britain's hard industry lead to mass unemployment in Pakistani communities, causing them to regress and become more conservative, as well as later waves of Pakistani immigrants coming from more impoverished and backwards areas such as Mirpur (Mirpuri immigrants often being chief culprits when it comes to sex abuse rings).

If you want to try to encourage muslims to question their religion, I'd plainly ask them if they've compared Islam to secular philosophies and scientific theories;
The story of Adam and Eve to evolution biology.
Islamic values to humanist values.
Etc.
IME most muslims compare Islam to other religions only.

I feel sorry for people like you. You have been indoctrined since you where born to be this and that. Its a sheer coincidence that your parents are muslims, so they brought the stupidity on to you. Specially when you're a girl. Doomed to be some kind of social gimp/masochist to your muslim society. You can compare it to the stockholm syndrome. I bet you feel a bit proud protecting your religion that have you in bondage. Make daddy proud.

Take it easy homie.

Thus unlamented let me die;

Oh and it was so funny that I told you to study something else besides religion`? I was just doing you a friendly favor. Really huge LOL to that. *rolls eyes*

I live alone, am completely independent, some of my siblings have apostatized. There is absolutely nothing holding me to my beliefs other than my own person choice.
