What sucks is that the people getting those degrees often times don't realize they have to make it through the chit the jobs offer over the first several years to start making the money. Yes the troll is that an engineer will make $200k the second their cap leaves their head but you're talking 10-15 and sometimes 20 years in before that happens.
Before anyone attempts the argue this...think middle American wage, not NY wage where making $125k means making $50k in the Midwest.

-Some people say good things come to those who wait, truth is, good things come to those who work..... who work later.....who work harder...... who are willing to go further than anyone else to get them. If you're waiting for good things to come to you, you'll be waiting for a pretty long time.

But seriously, is STEM like a general path where you can split off into say Engineering, or Education, or Law etc? Or is it basically Grade 13,14,15 and 16 and you come out and get a STEM job?
Srs its been 20 years almost since I was college age. What is this stem I hear so much about. reps

It has nothing to do with knowing everything.
If you have a STEM degree it means you learned somethingobjective. It means you learned askillthat can be applied to the real world. Going to school to learn something subjective or based on a professor's interpretation is dumb.

So anyways, who typically would hire a stem grad and what would you actually do? With these salary expectations it seems like you'd be destined for mediocrity.

STEM majors are the most pompous a-holes out there. They brag about their degree like they should be rewarded for passing a few engineering classes. Meanwhile they're crying behind their desk bored out of their minds dreaming about the six figure salary they were promised.

Then I thought, how the hell can you lump all those things into one umbrella term?
The reason why is because having a degree in a science/engineering/whatever doesn't mean you know EVERYTHING...This is because our understanding of the universe is expanding by the years and is STILL expanding. So it's physically impossible to know everything. Even then, we already have so many volumes of knowledge available now that it takes one a lifetime just to basically grasp one area of expertise... Do you want to know why this is the case? Okay let me explain something about the sciences, what you read in a textbook is usually the simplified baby version of what a Professor has written down to try and explain it to you... For instance, "crossing over" within recombination isn't just entire chromosome chunks swapping, but involves polarity shifting from strand invasion causing a holiday junction... But if we tried to explain that in a remedial class your grades would be lower than they are now. We want you to be able to understand base concepts before we overload you with information.
Another thing which scares me is that many of you seem to think that going into the sciences/technology = prosperity... To which I am going to shatter your delusions right now and will tell you this, NO career choice will guarantee success... The sciences are just like every other career choice, if you don't network or do internships to put on your resume your phucked... The only advantage you have is that more often than not you get payed to intern, unless your working under one of your professors.
Furthermore, if you're only going into the sciences for just employment, I would strongly discourage it... Seeing as you're probably not really interested in the sciences, and if you're not interested in them then you're not going to be good at them... And if you're not good at them, you're probably not going to get employment within them. That's just how it is when it comes to jobs that are important, not only do you have to have the networks, connections, experience, but also the TECHNICAL COMPETENCE to do it. If you don't have talent within the sciences I would suggest doing something else with your time, like banking and accounting if your sole motivation for going to college is money.

So STEM's grad's major accomplishment is having a career that is better than a plumber. LMFAO.

elementary and highschool is suppose to give you a base understanding of the more advanced math and science courses. Yeah, some people have to take trigonometry and biology 101 at a university, but thats because they're potatoes that couldn't asses out of it.
Show me a public highschool that offers courses like;
Quantitative analysis
Physical Chemistry
Intensive Biochemistry with an emphasis in Medicine
Theoretical Algebra which involves creating your own formulas to solve given solutions.
and
Biological Chemistry where you essentially learn every single enzymatic pathway in the human body.
....and i'll send my kids there if I decide to have them.

You get an engineering degree, work like 10 years, get promoted to management, get promoted to upper management, bam, you're not in your 40s and make 300k a year if you're not an autist and have people skills.
Retire early and start your own business and become rich. Or just enjoy a comfortable salary, engaging work, with great benefits.
Of course on the misc though, tradecels say you will make 300k a year with your own plumbing business

Even in the most blatant troll threads, i've never seen a STEM major assume they "knew" everything because they were a STEM graduate.
