Threads like this are seriously baffling (srs). Have never hurt myself deadlifting ever, legit can't imagine how it'd happen unless you did like 10+ reps with sh!tty form and got hurt on the last couple of reps, or 1-2 reps at like 95% of your max with sh!tty form over-compensating/being delusional about your strength.

Learn how to use your glutes/hamstrings/leg drive on the deadlift, incorporate your core (valsalva manuvuer) and stay within the 3-5 rep range with good form.

If you can still walk properly you're fine.

And don't ice it lmao apply heat. You wanna draw blood there. There's a reason athletes perform better in the summer heat over winter.

It's a full body lift that especially hits the spinal erectors and posterior chain hard, but also hits the quads, traps, and forearms. I'd call a Romanian deadlift more of a hamstring lift since straightening the legs out puts more emphasis on the hamstrings (but still hits a lot of the aforementioned muscles).

In the gym, I see, time and time again, people trying to stiff-leg a deadlift because their erectors give out = snap city. It's painful to watch. If your back begins to round during a deadlift, stop. Drop the weight or call it a day.

Just LOL at any fools I see at my gym who aren't deading, squatting and OHPing at least once a week. You will go nowhere and never make it. Doing those three movements are a cheat code to gains. Work that whole body and make that core strong AF. SERIOUSLY.

It's possible; doesn't take a lot of weight to screw up your back if your lumbar rounds. Even a light weight becomes very heavy at that point. I hurt mine using 240 lbs but I was doing the sumo SLDL.

If its a acute injury you apply ice. You apply heat if its a chronic issues. Just FYI

I used to be in the "If you don't deadlift you're a pussy camp", but I wised up after hurting myself years ago.

The injury rate for people who consistently deadlift throughout the years has to be close to 100%. It's a great exercise, but for your casual lifter, the risk/reward factor is a deal breaker for me. I lift for myself in order to look/feel better and relieve stress; I don't compete or play sports professionally.

A lot of deadlift injuries (pinched nerves, hernias, etc.) have the potential for lifelong negative effects. The possibility of sacrificing my long-term spinal health to have a filled out back/put up big numbers in the gym is just not worth it in my opinion.

Hope your injury is minor and that you heal up soon.

You were probably going too heavy. I hurt myself a few times deadlifting, back the first time from going too heavy and not focusing on form and hamstrings the second time also going too heavy. You should find your max then use a strength training program to help you increase it. I started 531 and didnt touch what I thought I could max for 2 or 3 months. Form got significantly better no injuries no back pain and continued to get stronger.

Take a break from deadlifting for a few months and then rebuild it slowly without any ego lifting

An SLDL is more back than hams. A Romanian Deadlift would target the hamstrings harder.

people are still trying to PR on Deadlifts? Oh crap I thought this was still 2011

ya'll haven't learned yet, haven't you? Deadlifts = worst risk/reward exercise EVER. Literally there is so much better AND safer exercises for your back/traps. Unless your a serious PL athlete, you have NO BUSINESS doing deadlifts.

When I hurt my back I definitely did something wrong- shifted the weight a bit to one side when I stalled and took a one way ticket to snap city. Point is, I know how to deadlift with proper form and I still f*cked up. Chances are a lot of guys on here have done the same thing. When you're dealing with a lot of weight being supported by your spinal column, there's a fine line you walk between good and bad form.

And maybe my statement about injury rates is exaggerated, but over time a sh*t load of people do get injured from this lift. I see it as a dangerous lift no matter how you slice it- almost like a "Do this at your own risk," type of situation.

If Deadlifts cause you any trouble whatsoever then it's hardly worth the effort. It's not like they're essential.

People go snap city all the time on various lifts with okay form. I tore the fuk out of my knee doing a 75% effort warmup squat, and my form is pretty good. I've also tore the hell out of my lower back just doing OHP.

A somewhat technical lift that uses the most weight of any exercise had a higher injury potential. You can't convince me every single person who gets hurt DLing just had chit form.

Dead lift heavy and squat heavy 3 times each every 2 weeks for months at a time with no injuries ever.

Most people I've seen dead lift in the gym have form ranging from okayish to absolute chit then go and tell people dead lifts are dangerous when they fuk up their back.

Deadlift crew checking in. These threads always give me the lulz for some reason.

Hopefully this chit never happens to me. All I do is hexbar deadlifts though. Feels a lot safer than conventional deadlifts.

I stopped deadlifting. A lifetime of pain/misery from herniated discs at a young age simply isn't worth it.... for what? Lower back development and hamstring development? Screw that. If you increase weight, your form will break down much faster on the deadlift. So nooooooooooo thank you.

Started doing hex or trap bar deadlifts. Much better on your lower back. Legs get hit well. Hard to have bad form. Try them (serious).

That hits the legs harder and is more like a squat.
