I don't think the second amendment says "those who show just cause have the right to keep and bear arms." If you don't like it back your bags and GTFO.

You continue to dance around the only claim that I am making, which is that you don't need anything beyond a simple handgun to protect yourself.
so everything beyond that should be banned, like they are everywhere else.

just because you want something, doesn't mean you'll get it. that's life bruh. the best you can do is deal. I don't want insane fuks to commit mass shootings. that doesn't mean it's going to stop. so the best way I can deal with it is to own a gun for my own protection. At the very least, it's peace of mind, which everyone should be able to have when they're at home, or shopping, etc. At the very most, it's a way to stop a shooting before it becomes a mass shooting.

People drive without seatbelts dont they? they Litter? drive in the carpool lane when there's heavy traffic, even if there's only one person in the car? People steal food, people loot, people break chit, people play the stupid punching game where they try to knock strangers out in one hit.
If someone really wants to do something, they'll do it. No piece of paper is going to stop them. It's not the people who follow laws that anyone is worried about...
in response to you question why does anyone need more than a handgun for self-defense...
why would you want a handgun? srs. makes more sense to use a semi-auto rifle. more accurate, more weight behind the weapon so you use it for striking if you wish, more range. could even use it to block a bullet, gaddamobviously not srs

i'll drop my 2 cents;
Anecdotally, I interact with way too many idiots on a daily basis. I would say the majority of people alive (84%, and no this number is not arbitrary, its based off standard deviations in IQ breakdown ) have average intellect or lower. That's a scary thought. Guns are very powerful and to give an idiot that much power is beyond me. I don't believe banning any type of firearm will solve the problem nor do I feel like its a political issue. When some young kid on the street can take away a life with the pull of a trigger based off of an emotion response, its scary. And yes, I'm aware 99% of rebuttals will be phrased as "If people want to kill, they don't need a gun" which is an accurate statement yet undermines the seriousness of the issue of gun violence. To be honest, I don't believe there is much we can do at this point without either infringing on others rights or creating a market scarcity among a multi-million dollar domestic industry.
tl,dr: idiots are the reason we cant have nice things

Srs question though, tell me the power difference between an AK47 that is semi-auto with a 10rd clip and a Glock with a 10rd clip? Both fire the same rate, both have stopping power? You could argue ANY gun is more powerful than anyone needs for protection, unless we're talking like a .22 for killing rats. So the only option left is to either ban all guns or ban none.

the problem with so many gun nuts is they constantly try to force it as "ban all or ban none". I 100% agree with firearms for protection but that isn't what we currently have

it could also be based on rate of fire. Handguns that only fire x per minute.

If someone can explain to me why anyone NEEDS a high capacity horsepower car capable of exceeding the speed limit by over 100 mph and capable of inflicting death on anyone who comes in its path (10.345 deaths per 100,000) AND why they haven't been banned yet, I'll agree AR-15s should be banned (0.078 deaths per 100,000).
