True. I just see them ALL OVER craigslist everyday, people selling new 250s with only like 800 miles on them.. After you ride a zx6r or another 600 you'll fall in love and never look back

i've owned

a 50cc scooter -
a 125 cc cbr -
and a 675cc street triple

i spent alot of money on lessons before going to bigger bikes. glad i did.

I made too many noob mistakes on the 125cc, mistakes i fear would have killed me on a larger bike

The one I just got is a 2006 ninja 250 with only 2600 miles on it. No wonder it has trouble, it probably hardly gets ridden.

The bike runs fine, but only with choke on 85-100%. Doesn't idle without choke, and if I press the clutch in while driving with no choke, it stalls.

Was wondering if dirty carbs or something else.

Everything seems to be fine if I leave the choke on, but I obviously don't want to be permanently riding with it like that.

It's def dirty carbs. I would get carb cleaner at a local auto store and YouTube how to clean the carbs on your model.

Also I'd recommend changing the Air filter and Spark plugs.

This is why fuel injection is so much better

I changed the plugs on my zx6r and it fires SO MUCH smoother now.

Bike runs great other than needing the choke to idle, going to clean the carbs today.

Lol@anyone saying a 250 isn't enough power. Maybe for some kind of mini cruiser or a dual sport, but this thing is pretty fukking quick, even with 200lb OP on it.

Honestly man don't mod up the 250.. Within the next 6 months you're going to want to jump up to a 600 and then you can mod the fuk out of it..

Didn't read the whole thread but I'll give my input since I just bought my first bike a month ago.

-Take the MSF course, I learned so much from mine. It was only like $70 and you get an insurance discount. Plus its nice doing stuff on someone else's bike in case you fall.

-Do all basic maintenance on the bike to start.

-Since it's a 250, you WILL outgrow it and want something bigger. So my advice would be to spend your mod money on things that aren't on the bike like nicer helmets, gear, etc. as others have mentioned so you can keep all of it when you upgrade.

-If you insist on modding the bike, just buy a cheap exhaust and fender eliminator to get you through.

What phucking country are kents like you living in? They don't even let people on the road in Europe with a 600cc if you're a beginner, you need at least a couple years of experience or need to be 24 years old minimum.

Enjoy the bike. Looks nice and clean and ignore the oh you'll get bored of 250. Small bikes are great fun, they are light and don't get up to illegal speeds in the blink of an eye and improves skill. Plenty of fun.

The idle/choke issue is pretty much carbs, dirty air filter, old fuel, also could be plugs.

If you do not want to clean the carbs. Try the seafoam in the tank, take some fuel in a back pack and go for a long ride (in case you run out). That should help.

Also the carbs might just need balancing and not require a full clean.

Already tried seafoam in the tank and replacing the fuel, didn't work. Going to clean the carbs and clean the air filter on Tuesday, will also scrub the plugs of they're fouled (I wouldn't doubt it if they are, considering I'm driving with the choke on all the time).

And yea, already lmao@the people saying I'll get bored with this and it's a waste to get one. Maybe on a dual sport or a cruiser 250cc wouldn't be enough, but on this ninja it kicks plenty of power.




Also taking people's recs and looking at track days. Looks fun, but so many bike requirements at the one in looking at.

Before you do that try this

Get some spray like brake cleaner or carb cleaner and spray it near the engine where the air goes to the carbs. Do it while the bike is idling.

If there is an air leak somewhere leak will suck up the spray mist in the air and it will change the speed of the engine. Then you will know somethibg is up.

When you rev the engine how long does it take to go back to idle speed after you let go of the throttle? Does it go right back down to idle straight away or does it hover at a high rpm and come back down slowly? Im talk about while its just in neutral parked up.

Also if you do take out the plugs take a look at the colour of the built up schit on it. Is it black brown white etc? Does it look burnt or oily ? Take pic if possible. It tells you a lot about the fuel mixture. Ideally it should be a biscuit colour light brown.

Check the gap of the spark plug. Is right too.

When you puy the spark plug back in tighten it lightly with your fingers then go 1 / 8 of a turn with a spanner exactly.

If youre running with the choke set it restricts the air. Which usually means its getting too much air ie engine running too lean. Maybe air leaking in from somewhere else thats why i suggested check for air leak with a spray.

Riding home@9:30, not speeding much but accelerating fast and hitting bends hard.

Pass some college chicks in a car and they start hooing at me. Get to a red light and they're all hooing at me still and asking me questions.

Cleaned my chain, thing was fukking dirty. A pool of black chit 1.5' in diameter.

Going to remove and clean my carbs when I'm done at the gym. Have to buy a new wrench that was either left out of the included tool kit, or the dude kept/lost.

Tomorrow, an oil change and cable adjustments.

Hopefully the carb clean will fix my idling problem. Now that I'm past my initial fun with the bike, it's starting to annoy me.

Is there a quality way to repair scratches on fairings? Dude's sons dropped the bike a lot, so there's quite a few scratches on the plastic fairings, but no cracks or anything.

Is there any type of enamel that I could use to fill in the tiny ridges of the fairings and then paint over them?

Otherwise I'm thinking of just buying a new (used) set off of a parting out bike I can find on CR.

Depending on how deep they are, you can sand the fairings down and repaint/gloss them
