amazing thread OP, I've spent the last month going through all 39 pages and it's help me stay positive and rethink a few things. I've recently graduated and looking back, I feel like that's been the only thing good that's come from the last three years of my life, that I am now finally waking up. Time to make better decisions and make good things happen!

A lot of good stuff in here that I've even realized now that I just turned 23 (thank god I realized some of this chit early, I see so many kids around my age especially where I live who value the wrong things, act the wrong ways etc.) compared to when I was 18 or 19.
Definitely have figured out the amount of money I've spent on alcohol is disgusting and stupid living 25 miles from NYC, I've spent a pretty dumb amount of money going out but I was(Am) young and given where I live and a lot of people having money and things to do, it was hard not to do a good amount of partying.
Have figured out that figuring yourself out mentally and addressing any problems, insecurities etc. is a lot more important than many people think especially around my age after doing it for myself and then seeing it in friends, girlfriends etc. Those things will end up eating you alive and effecting your direction in life, relationships whether they be business related, friendships or a significant other.
Very true in regards to who you are on the inside vs what is on the outside or perceived by others, I see it ALL the time where kids are so worried about what others think that they waste tons of money, make mistakes, create problems for themselves. That and you're going to attract the wrong people into your life and end up living a life you dont genuinely enjoy.

The thing I struggle with most now is figuring out what I truly want to do,would love to do and would be good at, and as much as I try not to let it get to me it does at times now at 23 where I have friends who have figured out what they want to do already and just got jobs. Having a bit of anxiety+depression that effects my day to day life doesnt help either, as it effects my physical and mental motivation. The biggest problem I run into is thinking about COLLEGE, I went originally and have completed classes obviously but as I've gotten older I've become so jaded at the idea of it, its a business and so much of the work, teachers, and classes are completely useless and BS. I absolutely hate writing papers that are so necessary to todays college courses, not that I'm not a good writer when I'm forced to write, but Im too genuine to sit there and find a way to BS 5-10 pages of absolute useless chit about some uninteresting topic in a class I dont like and know I just need to take. The problem is both my parents work in the medical field and I do admit that I have a pretty good "nack" with things related to the body and find some of it interesting and find myself always analyzing how others think/why they do "x" in terms of psychology, but can't find the motivation or want to commit myself to spending the next 4-6 years in school and dont really want to be 27 or 28+ just finishing up with school.

Thanks for the advice mate. Having hit 30 I feel like I understand the majority of what you said, and am happy with where I have progressed since my 20s. I'm recently married, looking for kids in the next year or two. Stable career, continuing to build relationships with people I want to be around, and cutting away the relationships that aren't heading anywhere that I want to be.

This is a good thread. I will go through page by page at some point and read everyones posts. I'm sure there is some killer advice hidden within the 1,000+ posts.

Every December, I write up a big goal sheet. Maybe like 5-8 A4 pages and split everything up into different cateogories. All have to be SMART Goals (look that up if you dont know what that is, but basically, they need to be Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Timely).
I'll have cateogories for health and fitness (E.g. get bench to X weight, get my 20 mile cycling route under Y time etc) , aesthetics (stop biting nails, whiten teeth etc) Career, Financial, clearing off general things off my to do lists, clearing off 10 things off my bucket list, go on 4-5 holidays etc etc stuff like this.

I've done this since 2012 and every year it surprises me hugely just how much it changes. I always end up completing 80% of my goals. 10% is because I was striving too hard and other 10% is because something else has come up which has effected the possibility of getting it because I was too specific.

Anyway, my point is -
TLDNR; Always set goals, try your hardest to smash them and then when you look back at the end of the year and you think 'fml, I dont know where I am or what im doing, everything is so hard and difficutl and stressful' - you can look at everything you have achieved over the last year.



It's strange how when I was younger all my goals were about making money and saving, then as I got older it was more career based and managing cashflow/business and then this year has been focusing mainly on improving social aspects/relationships/family connections, enjoying myself, improving myself at like DIY, cooking and trying to make myself a much more rounded individual.

I havent planned anything just yet, but should really start thinking about 2017. I presume though that it will be focused on creating a family, reducing stress, improving 'free time', focusing on creating positive experiences/memories, improving myself in skills (cooking, guitar, gardening, building etc..) predominantly..




Life advice;
Work out early on what makes you happy.
Spend time doing your hobbies
Go out on adventures/trips with your friends/girlfriend/wife, dont just sit indoors watching mindless TV
Eat healthly, but treat yourself on occasions
Look after your heart and do Cardio too
Appreciate the small things in life
Watch how you phrase things. E.g. if your moaning to a friend about your life, dont say "sorry im being depressing atm" say "thanks for being a good friend and listening"
