no its not because once again you are missing the big picture as ive explained before, cops use deadly force to stop from being seriously injured or death, a dog is more than capable of serious bodily injury, other means, such as baton, pepper spray, taser etc are all means to stop a HUMAN whos behavior is aggressive but has not risen to the level of SBI or death. A cop has no way to restrain a dodge without risking serious bodily injury as those other means are not effective against animals as they are humans. So to stop the threat of serious bodily injury the cops ONLY resort was too shoot. the question was specifically asked to ME what i would do in that scenario and I answered it, my answer does not cover every single 1m other officers in the US

You have no experience with crocodiles. What would you do if someone's pet alligator walked out of the house and started snarling (barking) at you?

I bet 100% you'd shoot it. How is that any different than this situation?
first, i'd zig and zag because crocs are fast, but they can't turn well. Assuming I escaped, I'd report it because that's illegal. but I wouldn't shoot it unless it was actively chasing me and I couldn't escape it, but that's also because alligators are not known to be companions, and have much more killing power than a dog.

see how it's a different situation?

see my previous post for why it doesn't matter how much experience you have with animals.

Animals, yes. People, no. That's the difference between animals and human rights. Animals lives aren't worth ****. You ****ing eat them factory farmed LOL.

I bet that pork you had loved living too obese to walk in a cage too small to roll over having feces and urine dropped onto its head from the cages above it. Having its children stolen from it after birth and beaten on for fun daily by minimum wage workers. Its husband/ wife chosen by arrangement and then slaughtered. Right before it had a chainsaw put through its neck so you could eat it even though you could just eat soybeans for protein. Such empathy you have! Lol

what exactly are you saying? and why did you bold "with dogs"

and if that were the case, then people wouldn't be jailed or even punished for shooting a police dog. can't have it both ways

There should be a component of officer's training that teaches them behavioral traits and how to handle domestic animals. Why is that so unbelievable? Millions of homes have dogs and cats. Millions of people leave their dogs outside in the yard while they're not home. Statistically a cop is virtually guaranteed to be presented with situation in which they have to deal with domesticated animal, whether loose or secured. What exactly did you miss about my previous statement? This should absolutely be a component of their training. These are pets. Not pigs or wolves or wild animals.

lol you're making yourself look really, really, painfully dumb.

the fact the first cop did not need to pull his gun on the dog proves immediately that the shooting was not justified, or else both cops would have felt equally threatened.

so because of your own ignorance and lack of empathy, others should pay for it? not to mention that cops regularly workwith dogs, so it's not unreasonable to expect them to have some understanding of dog psychology/behavior.

lol @ equating an animal that's been domesticated for thousands of years to a wild animal much heavier and more dangerous, that will actively hunt and kill humans if given the chance.

And if I was in the woods with a shotgun, i would give that boar a chance to turn away. and if he didnt, then yes I would shoot him. Just like I would do my best to shoot a dog that was latched onto my arm/leg. But I wouldn't go to the dog park and just start shooting all the dogs that are barking at me through the fence, or the ones who run up to say hi to me when I enter...
just lmao at this, no the other cops reaction, or lack of reaction does not invalidate the shooting. Please stop trying to say what police can and cant do its pathetic

No cops do not regularly work with dogs, a select few are given trained dogs and handle them but you can not apply that to every cop. Ive never once said every scenario is the same right now you are simply spewing bull****

The lack of distinction between pet and food is just as egregious as the lack of distinction between suspect/threat and citizen. You have the chittiest logic when it comes to classification and distinction.

Here he comes with the cliche dissenting opinion.

You think that if postal workers living in a state where they can carry would be able to get away with shooting pets at the same frequency as cops?

sorry, let me reword that.

The first cops reaction proves the shooting was notobjectivelyjustified. i'm sure the second cop justified it somehow to himself. And if it was objectively justified, then the first cop either wasn't paying attention or didn't care. so one of them should be losing their job...

If you start mandating that cops take classes for everything down to dog classes, you're going to have to require a PhD amount of coursework for smalltown policing.....

If ignorance is the only requirement that cops need to have in regards to animal behavior, then they can stop using K9's.

Cops should be trained for any situation that could occur on a daily basis. If they can't comprehend how to handle this every day situation they shouldn't be a ****ing cop.

I cannot understand why we shouldn't hold those that protect and serve to a higher ****ing standard.

How do you decide which animal is a pet and which is a food source? Arbitrarily, that's how. Which is why, when talking about empathy, which we specifically were, it's an arbitrary distinction.

I was accused by that other guy of having no empathy. I guess I don't. Neither do you and neither does he.

You don't have to take a semester long class to understand canine behavior. How simplistic are you idiots? Do they train you on approaching different environments? Different SOPs per environment? How is this any different? No one's asking for a PhD in animal psychology or anything like that, I'm stating it should be a component of their training to understand the environments they will be placed in. But no, that doesn't seem logical to you, just giving them free reign to shoot living things whenever they feel like it seems like the smartest and most logical way to conduct law enforcement.

I already agreed with you that the owner should have secured her dog before even opening the door, so stop hanging on for dear life to the one point you've been right about, and address all the other blatantly alarming arguments you are making here.

I don't need to justify that this shooting is wrong, I guarantee you countless others will agree with me. more than the people who will agree it is justified. I'm not blaming the cop for the dog coming outside the house, no one is. I'm simply saying that he did not need to use the level of force he did.

no amount of training or psycho analysing dog behavior will stop an aggressive dog charge. Nor will it combat muscle memory or lag time... Cop probably didnt even realize he shot until it was over

why are we talking about food sources? stop trying to redirect this conversation to somewhere it doesn't belong you dunce

I would be just as upset if it was a pig he'd shot, or a cat, or a cow, or any other animal that is not normally dangerous.

No guessing about it, you have no empathy if you believe animal lives don't mean sht, which is what you said word for word. And then you go on to post about how cruel factory farming is?

lol sit down and eat your fukin applesauce, since apparently you have the thought process and maturity of a toddler

while that may be true, there are many varying amounts of knowledge that will help you distinguish an aggressive dog from a non-aggressive dog.

I don't believe your second sentence could be true, because it seemed he was ready to shoot before the dog even started coming for him. but that's just my analysis of the situation

I don't need to justify that this shooting is wrong, I guarantee you countless others will agree with me. more than the people who will agree it is justified. I'm not blaming the cop for the dog coming outside the house, no one is. I'm simply saying that he did not need to use the level of force he did.

Strong putting words into other's mouth. You sound like the biggest pussy, not willing to form your own opinions and just hiding behind the law.
it doesnt matter if others agree with you, it only matters that the law agrees with me, thats what police work is, its a dirty job but cops do it and they do it within the peramitors of the law. This was a justified shooting because it was legally lawful for him to do it. You have no argument against that, you can say whatever bullchit you want about dog behavior and blah blah blah the ONLT thing that matters is the dog was aggressive, he charged the officer ajd the officer was afraid of serious bodily injury from the dog. Nothing else matters

well then i guess all we can do is agree to disagree about the laws then. We were debating whether the shooting is justified, but if we're debating about whether it was within the parameters of the law....it's adifferent story

you would have saved yourself a lot of time and embarrassment if you had posted that first
