Alright, pull up junkies. The challenge is on. Can anyone do pull ups to the Moby song Flower, AKA "Bring Sally Up"? Or more specifically, can anyone do a pull up every time the song says "Bring Sally Up", then rest in a deadhang at the bottom? The song is 3:26 long, and "Bring Sally Up" is said 30 times. I could only get through 16 pull ups and about 1:43 before peeling off the bar. Below is the video. Mark Cunanan? EPC? Extremist? Tiny Wrist? Prof Pull Ups? Fitman? Iraklis? Fortress? Boston Rockets? Anyone else out there? Give it a go and see how long you can go. Rules are no one arm dead hangs, always have to keep both hands on the bar. Pull ups are strict form, no breaking at the waist, full lockout on deadhang, and chin clearly above bar on ascent. Legs can be bent or hang loose. The challenge ends once you peel off the bar. Game on!!!

I will give it a try, but not this week!
These kind of challenges, as the one that meremortal says, are extremely curious because the only in common with pull ups is the use of the same bar. I mean, in the meremortal's challenge the key is the static position above the bar, the useless point for everyone who do pull ups. Think about it, the pull up movement, when you are down you try to do a big impulse until you reach the bar, point where you arrive thanks to that "impulse" and when you apply "less" power because it's just question of achieving the chin and that's all.

Anyway it's an impressive challenge where grip strength is fundamental.

Today I start doing some weighted pull ups (will start with only 10 kg!) for reps.

Yeah, grip was always the limiting factor in my experience. How many reps are you aiming for with 10kg?

Yeah, grip training needs to be done just to hang on the bar for 3+ minutes.

Hi guys,

I stopped working out for a couple of months because I stupidly sliced my hand on a sardine can and got 8 stitches, but now I'm back.

I have less time to work out these days, but my recent workout is to do 100 150%+ bodyweight pullups in 20 minutes. Caveat: I weigh about 145 lbs. I've been using a 20 lb weighted vest, and bumper plates of 45 lbs + 10 lbs. It's quite a good workout. I do 8 upfront + 2 every however many seconds it takes to get to exactly 20 mins. Using the 150% b/w metric (which admittedly gives small guys like me an advantage), I wonder if this is a good time.

Only downside is that doing this many weighted ones so frequently (2-3 times / week) is probably not good for my lower back, because of the pull of the plates. I will look into getting a heavier weighted vest. It may look even more suicide-bomber-y than my current one, but probably worth it.

fitman84, funny that you got to 5:50 on 100 pull ups for time - my best time (back when i was doing it) was exactly 1 sec longer! (I'm sure you've improved your time even more since then).

Extremist, I think you are running this 2nd thread, and I believe you have been modifying the leaderboard on the 1st page. It would be great if I go under the "100 for time" section - I did 5:51 a while ago:
youtu.be/2EV1AbZcOo8

I remember reading that cooperrun did 5:45, and fitman84 5:50 (those don't show up either on the 1st page, by the way). But it looks like the page keeps a few top times vs just the best.

Thanks.

Wow. That looks hard. Nice work. Also good question on what I did after the 46 reps set. I then did super sets with no rest. The reps went like
10 - 93 lbs
10 - BW
10 - 73 lbs
10 - BW
10 - 47 lbs
10 - BW
10 - 28 lbs
10 - BW
10 - 18 lbs
10 - BW

I believe my total time was around 15 minutes for all of the above, but I forget. I should have written it down here! After that I did 25 unbroken chin ups and called it a day.

Sorry man! I've just realised now about this. The truth is that I have bad experience with weighted pull ups, when I practice them, it always ends with some kind of injury. My best is 21 reps with 20kg, but when I was in that progression an injury stopped me.
The other day I tried some sets with 10kg, the first one of 20 reps, nothing important.I think about it and it really has no sense to practice them with my injury experience and probably would be better to focus on BW and improve these.

What are your pull ups training looking like?

fitman84, funny that you got to 5:50 on 100 pull ups for time - my best time (back when i was doing it) was exactly 1 sec longer! (I'm sure you've improved your time even more since then).

Sorry to hear that, man. But Welcome back! Not many tries after that time, the last I did is around 5:47. Want to focus on 200 - 300 for time, to do a good base for 30'. Will start (again) soon.

Finally David Marchante did 104,55 kg. Put +11 kg to Extremist pull up. Now the thing is to see if Extremist go on and try to get it again. The limit is very near I think, arms tendons and ligaments must be at their limit with that amount of weight! really insane.

David uploaded some videos in his instagram doing pull up +115kg, but the truth is that the form wouldn't have been valid for Guinness guideline.

Anyway, competition (clean and respectful) is always nice!

Srs question. If I'm a lightweight Asian (130-135lbs) guy who can do 152.6% BW for 4 reps, do I qualify lol. Btw, 150% BW means adding 50% BW right?
