Honestly I don't understand this whole the man always has to pay the bill crap
Why is this still a thing?
I understand it was a thing back then because women had no education/careers. They make as much money as us now.
Alpha/dominance thing? How the hell so? She is not depending on you for money, she has her own job/career. She doesn't need you.
Yes THE FIRST time I go on a date, which is just a drink or two I'll pay. But after that she better be trying to pay or split the bill next time.

And no one knows for sure, but im sure all this has something to do with the pussification of the modern male. Being gay is cool now? Kids grow up with no discipline? No one has any respect for authority? etc... etc...
So I will continue the image of the Alpha, dominant, provider. Even if it is a dying tradition. It wont die on my watch. My kids will grow up well taken care of and with good family values.

Grown Up Tip
Pay for the bill, if she offers to chip in, refuse ( shes a keeper ) if she doesnt, you just made a good call never to contact her again.
If she REALLY insists on paying, it means she will likely go no contact, bt a follow up date yes/no a few days later will confirm this or not.

I haven't had a first date over 20 bucks in a long time. How do you expect to date a number of women when it comes out to $140 a date?
Ice cream is a $10 date. Rock climbing is a $20 date. Bowling is a $20 date. A walk is free. Getting a drink is $20 max for me.
I don't spend money at bars, regardless of whether I'm on a date or not.

I have a date tomorrow night with a different girl from work and we are going to see a movie in 4D, that'll prolly be a 50 dollar date, it all depends on the night and what's happening.
That's cool, it's awesome you don't spend money at bars, but some of us like to do out and have drinks.

I go out to cocktail lounges with dates for myself. I like the vibe and drinks and want to go period. I bring a girl so I have someone to chat with and get laid. I'm way more excited for a date at a cool lounge than ice cream with a girl who I've texted for 2 days.

Think about it like this. If you are asking, then you are more than likely in control of where you go and what you do. If you dont want the woman to "play you" and use you for your money, then choose something that doesnt cost anything or very little. Problem solved.
There is a lot to be said about someones character when money is involved. Too often have I seen this scenario play out:
When spending your own money some people are frugal. But when its someone elses' money they "make it rain"
See that a lot in corporate world. Go to dinner on own dime, buy McDonalds. Go to dinner on corporate dime, "i'll have the center cut filet and your nicest bottle of red"
That is a terrible trait.

A womanshouldenjoy the thought of going out with you as much as you do with her. If not, then why pay for her anyways? You are not inviting her as a guest to interview or w/e. It's a date that you both want to go on equally as much.
If we both want to go on the date equally as much, why am I the one that has to pay? This is why you offer a date that has no costs.

TL;DR: Even if you get stood up, you should still be able to go out and have a good time on your own if wanted. Once you master that. Dating is easy.

'do you want to pay or shall I?' Most of the time they will say we should split it. If they don't want to pay then you must pretend to be OK with it, go to bathroom and climb out of the window.

I also posted on this previous, if we want to get really techincal, then do you also split gas money depending on who is driving? Or if you are meeting at a spot that is not exactly equal distance for both parties shall we bust out google maps, chart the distance, figure out how many miles per galloon each person's car gets and then calculate how much more gas the farther person had to travel then split that as well?

Of course I use that example as exaggeration but you get the idea.
We do some things simply because thats the way society has moulded us to behave. There are some things I choose to go with the flow with from a societal stand point and others I do not. But as I said in my first post, I use the you invite/you pay rule of thumb applied to everyone, not just women.
So If I invite my dad's friend to dinner, I pay. And I am definitely not trying to bang him. Its just a common courtesy and the way I was raised. And as an adult, I stil do agree with that common courtesy.
Funny story, my brother and I was just talking about this the other day.
We grew up old school. I remember one time we were at a sizable dinner with my parents, their friends and all their kids. There were two big tables. One for the parents and one for all the kids. We were looking at the menus and my brother asks "who is paying for this?" (he was like 8 years old) My father gets up from the other table, walks over and smacks him so hard across the face in front of everyone, the menu flew out of his hand. I remember that clear as day and we still LOL about it now. That should give you context to how I was raised. Old School.

The eternal conflict between men and women. There's no easy way to go about it. Best advice i can contribute is don't ask her out to a formal setting if it's the first date. If you end up paying, you don't want it to be too expensive if you end up footing the bill. NEVER say "i want to take you out", you're asking to pay. If the waiter asks if its together or seperate, just be confident and say "seperate". If she calls you out, tell her she's not your girlfriend yet.
Its a mindset thing for me. If it's just a girl i plan on ****ing a few times, i truly dread the dating process. The last thing i want to do is invest time, and DOUBLE the money it would've taken to go and eat that same meal myself. I limit my losses by paying for just myself. It's not cheap, it's smart investing.

Benefits of the courting process is if you win... You get free hole for an undisclosed amount of time.

I have no problems at all picking up the tab when it comes to close friends. I don't even use the word date when in the courting process though, because like Cialdinii's said, certain words create aclick-whirrresponse that goes off and things become a lot more rigid structurally and people like to play roles.
"The only winning move is not to play." -WarGames (1983)
I will agree with you Don that time is definitely money, that's why I'll always ask if they want to go on a walk (I live by a nice trail) or something active and doesn't cost money and is less pressure on them. Weeds out the females who aren't physically active (which is important to me) and the free meal females. My best dates have always been my walks and conversely the worst ones have all been in the standard dating venues.
For me, it has nothing to do with being a "cheapskate" and more to do with actually getting to know them first.

I always pay. I used to try to split back when I thought it was the alpha thing... now I dont give a chit. If you are still in school or broke stress over it all you want but if you actually have a decent job its not worth the effort. Id pay for a friend I asked to go somewhere so no reason to not just pay for a date

You clowns crack me up. Like I'll go broke paying 50% more of a bill. I've had girls fight me to pay or pay behind my back. I've had girls never lift a finger to pay. I've paid hundreds of dollars for friends tabs and had them pay hundreds for me. Never felt like I was being used

How about you dont go out to dinner on the first date. Eating is one of the most awkward activities to engage in with someone youre not close to anyway....
That same chick who is peckish at a social gathering goes home and maxes out on a pizza. I mean shiv guys and girls are like that
