You don't hear a lot about it because its not seen as manly to talk about your feelings or things that are bothering you.

Because privilege. Also the blacks and latinos usually kill each other before they get the chance to kill themselves. Asians are too busy making grandchildren and stemcelling.

Partly societal pressures of being a man, but also the way men are perceived in society it is certainly less talked about. I wish it was more.

Mental health professional here and I can say with certainty that it is 100% due to the divorce system.

I have met 1 man ever who was already on antidepressants before meeting me. 90% of the women I meet are already on them.

True, and many men compensate for their pain by engaging in substance abuse and people mistake them for being addicts instead of suffering from depression. These people will often end up in jail or prison and there's a huge prison population and most of those guys aren't really mentally healthy.

Because instead of treating trannys for having a mental disorder known as gender dysphoria we are told we have to accept these men and that nothing is wrong with them. Even though the suicide rate for trannys is nearly the same before and after hormone therapy and genital mutilation surgeries obviously pointing to something else as the problem. But, hey, that's how you get accused of being a fascist...

It is for sure an issue that needs to be talked about. But truth is, everyone has problems, you ain't special because you feel depressed sometimes. People shouldn't bottle it up or ignore it, treat your mental health like you treat your physical health. See a therapist, better yourself by hitting the gym and reading.

People eat like chit, spend 8 hours a day playing video games, watching netflix and porn and pushing their feels to the back of their mind, then wonder why they get depressed.

Yeah, therapists are quick to get out that prescription pad but honestly a minimum of an hour per day of vigorous exercise is more effective and probably virtually 100% successful. There are extreme cases where a patient's neurochemicals need to be sorted out with the help of pharmaceuticals but the rest of the time is just big pharma using people to make a healthy profit.

Having serious mental heath problems (crippling depression, almost suicidal at times) if have found every medic to be dismissive and almost disbelieving no matter how bad I've been. Women seem to get the total opposite treatment when I have spoken to ones in a similar position.

I have a sister that works as a trauma counsellor for the police; from what she tells me I think part of it is that men do everything they can to try to hold stuff together (our nature and our dependants) so they are often not taken seriously because from an objective point of view they still hold a job down etc. The problem is that they then suddenly hit a breaking point hence high suicide rates and the like.

Guess it must be different in America, in the UK recently there seems to be a greater effort to shed more light onto mental health, including the issue of males opening up; prince William, Kate and Harry are often in the news representing mental health charities and initiatives as patrons, "Time To Change" specifically which is about ending stigma. A few news articles recently covering male accounts of depression from people with different backgrounds, heck even now atm arguably our biggest TV show, Eastenders, has a major storyline of a male character battling depression and suicide, and I just read today that the BBC are going to have a series of programmes dedicated to mental health awareness over the coming months. Prime minister has just been talking about a shake up in the NHS mental health system (we'll see how that pans out) and working towards ending discrimination.

Society stigmatizes mental illnesses instead of being supportive. Its both a male and female problem.

Especially certain disorders like Borderline, Schizophrenia or Bipolar disorder.

Why is there no talk of it? Because "coming out" (no homo) has a lot of unfortunate consequences:
- You can't get certain jobs (If you've been diagnosed with depression at some point or another mental health disorder you can't be a cop..even just depression is enough)
- People will look at you different once you have the label of having a mental disorder, suddenly you could crack at any moment or are potentially dangerous EVEN to people that have known you before your diagnosis will likely act different. It's ridiculous but it happens.
- Before Obamacare you could actually be denied insurance coverage on the basis of depression (it happened to me), so its better to hide it.
- For males you're looked at as being "weak" or "different" and will get shunned or bullied by peers. Men aren't allowed to show feelings at least that's how it was when I was growing up; I don't think society is as "anti-emotion" for men as they were when I was younger. I remember being depressed and being told to "man up" "quit being a pussy" which is literally the equivalent of telling a quadriplegic (paralyzed from neck down) to quit being a pussy and walk.

People don't understand mental illnesses and quite frankly aren't interested in learning about it unless it happens to them and that's when they have a different view of it.

People need to understand that people suffering from mental illnesses (depression and anxiety specifically) aren't in their state of mind because they want to they just do not have the tools to deal with it like others do. Some are raised good and are taught on how to deal with anxiety and depression others don't get this.
Here is a test to find whether your mission on earth is finished; If you're alive, it isn't.

This is really depressing. I've had two younger cousins shoot themselves over this because they couldn't get help and no one cares. Females were turned off when they tried talking to them about it.

Both were normal guys, not FA autists

I'm always caught in between two thoughts on this.

1. I believe a man needs to be introspective, level headed, and collected. Even in rough times. But I believe a man should follow his instinctual rational based thinking and stay composed. Figure things out. Don't be emotional and focus on the problem, but identify it and find the solution. IMO things happen, and you can't change it. So then it boils down to how you respond to that. You can either be irrational, emotional, and lost, or collected, focused and understanding of what happened and then what to do next. Why are some people so level headed and normal dealing with such terrible occurrences, yet others are so hysterically messed up? It is because of how in control they are of their own minds. Of course this doesn't include everyone, since there are some people that deal with a ton of horrible ****.

BUT....

2. My other thinking is that (at the same time), how do you know how to act? How do you know what to do to deal with problems? Where is the guidance? I really believe the father/father-figure in that person's life IS THE BIGGEST influence on how someone is. If they don't have one and are lost, it can be a disaster. Especially in this society that is so against and rough on men in many aspects.

So I know there is an issue, and I believe most of it should be fixed via the person themselves, but just as importantly there should be a strong male father/father-figure in their life for guidance and help. That is the single biggest necessity in becoming a good man and a man with a healthy mind and outlook

But I am really against any outside help or any victimhood whining mentality. There shouldn't be this big movement and rioting about this chit. If there is an issue and you need therapy, go get it. Need help? Find help. No need to do this marching for men about this chit or anyhting
