Depends on where you live. People saying that nobody cares are either full of chit or arent a minority that's been in a relationship with a white woman. As long as you stay near a majr city you should be alright

Nobody cares.

The most openly racist people I've run into are consistently older couples from the Northeast (NJ, PA, etc...).

Inb4 someone says Florida isn't the south. I live in northern Florida, so basically south Alabama.

@OP depends where you are... areas that are more progressive usually won't be an issue.

There is still very much a cultural color divide in the south and people (white and black) will shoot you stank looks if you're in an interracial relationship. Much less though now as compared to when I was younger.

I've never seen any blatant racism in the south. I've never lived outside bigger cities though. I'm sure it exists in the trailer trash areas, but those people are usually scum of the earth meth addicts.

Maybe some other miscers can confirm, but I've always been told Boston is pretty racist. South just gets a bad wrap because of the Confederacy and all the #SOUTHWILLRISEAGAIN nuts.

I live in GA with my husband who is Native American and Philippino, but he gets mistaken for Hispanic ALL THE TIME. We have a daughter who looks a little bit darker than me (I'm pale as hell) but not a dark as him and she looks asian with her cute little slant eyes. We've never had a problem in the area we live or in downtown Atlanta, but lord when we go to his home town! When he was a kid a woman refused to let him bag her groceries because he was a "dirty Mexican". We also got some dirty looks at a fair in North Carolina visiting my family. Other than dirty looks in a few places we don't have problems. People are much nicer in the south than most give them credit for.

Can count on one hand number of times I've felt racism against me as an Asian American. Ironically all from black dudes lol. But I recognize NC is not Deep South and unless you're in the very rural areas you're fine here. I've inter-racially dated majority of the time wih no issues.

Just speaking for Texas but you would be fine in bigger cities like Dallas, Ft. Worth, Austin, Houston. In the small towns might be a different story. I would never want to live in Louisiana, Alabama, West Virginia, etc...

It's not ignorant. You just hear stories upon stories of everybody that goes to the south experiencing racism. The South is just a different world when it comes to respect for fellow humans. Just the way things are down there.

Oklahoma isn't exactly the South, but almost no one cares here.

The only time I've seen someone care was a black woman that was upset her brother was dating a white woman.

In Texas youll be fine, just certain areas that are still pretty "hick" you wanna avoid. As a Spaniard I walked into a store once with my white gf in Old Huntsville.. all the old people looked at me like I was Jesus or some shiiiiit. First time lol

People who spent their lives in the south can't really see it.

A lot of cities are very clearly segregated. The waterfront at new Orleans is a really liberal area, but go out farther and there will be a white area and a black area.

Atlanta is like this. Actually most of Georgia.

Rich neighborhoods in Florida are 100% white. Cuban area in Miami is not for whiteys.

You can say that about every single place in the United States. The rich always segregate themselves off, and people will tend to live near their own race. This isn't southern exclusive.

I think what comes off as racism isn't racism per se. It's just a bit of culture shock. People who haven't lived in it aren't used to seeing Conservative values so openly displayed.

i lived in the Florida panhandle, smack middle in the bottom of the bible belt. Most people dont care tbh but there are a few (in the small towns, small mom and pop places) that give you that look. As long as you have money and aint starting problems, they wont give you problems. if you live the south, make sure you live, shop, eat in the areas with money; they tend to be more accommodating.

Yes you will hear stories about racism in small towns but its amplified by the news because its the south. I lived in a very small town in Georgia and grew up in the 70s. I never saw much racism. If it existed in the south I should have had a front row seat but I never really saw it. You have to remember this is the Bible belt and pretty much everyone has the values of "treat others as you would yourself"..Its why southern hospitality and friendliness are know as a thing
As a black dude from GA that's lived up north and out west.. this is basically, totally wrong lol.
