In.

Saving is earning.

The richest guy I know prefers not to pay anything if he could. Bought his new android for 1 dollar. He's a developer and his house is worth 10 million.

In on millionaire next door thread. Keep up the good work, gents. You don't impress anybody spending 3/4 of your pay on car payments.

Got a slight pay bump today. Planning to keep living under means!

Started at my job making 36k a year. Every time I got a pay increase or cost of living raise, or just a step increase, I divided the yearly amount by 26 and deposited that into an external high interest savings account. 10 years later, I'm making about 60k a year and I put back almost 400 dollars a pay period. I also budget down to the dollar for everything so I'm always in a surplus every year with my water/gas/electric bill. I take the surplus and use that to buy Xmas gifts. I take all the overtime I work in December ( 10-15k extra) I put into the external savings account. I get Sunday premium for working on sundays, that goes to external account. Any money I have left at the end of my pay period goes to the external account. I pay everything through reward credit cards and instantly pay them back with money that's in my budget account. I use the annual rewards money for vacations. Everything I have is paid off besides the house. Currently in the works to move to Florida where I'll get back 3-4K of state income that'll go into external savings account. We stream everything.

Save while you can
-go down to the courthouse and get married. Your family wants to be apart of it? Tell them to pay for it. We went to the beach and had a small ceremony on the beach. Had pictures taken and digitically sent to us all for 125 bucks. Another 100 for the cost for processing the license and that was it.
-you're supposed to have an emergency fund for stuff like the AC and such. There's also insurance you can get for stuff like this. It's 50-60 bucks anmonth but covers any appliance and such in the house to be worked on.
-kids are definitely a variable but only choose to have as many as you can support while still providing a good standard of living. Having one without these in mind is simply selfish and irresponsible.
-if you're planning to have kids, then bust your asses for a year and start hunting for great deals on the stuff you'll need. Work as much as possible up until the birth. If not married and the mom's situation is ideal for WIC and such, get it to help out with baby food and such. So many things you can do.

Agree with everything except living at your moms detached house or whatever.
Saving money is the key to financial security, which is so damn important for a stress free life.

And lol at the only women in this thread, being the only person who doesn't save money.

I know a woman who owns like 3 businesses (Each of which costed like 150-200k to start), has a couple properties, stocks, etc.; one of the most frugal people I've ever met.

Shes lives with her sister, only drives a prius (she could easily afford a luxury car), never buys random stuff, hardly owns any jewelry and cooks/eats at home for the most part.

OP you're doing it right; I personally don't cut a lot of corners when it comes to things I want because of quality issues but some stuff I do. I still own a blackberry instead of the Vertu phone I was going to buy.

Then you have people who are cheap. People who use night lights instead of lamps and overhead lights because they want to save $.78/month on electricity. Or my one friend who won't stop at 7-11 because the coffee is too expensive so he always stops at mcdonalds where it's like $.10 cheaper.

Frugal I can admire. But cheap is just cheap.
Why do you care if someone is cheap or frugal anyway?

Probably my only srs post since i joined.
Everything I post is 100% false and should not be taken seriously. It in no way reflects my viewpoints and/or morals.

Fine with me, as long as you don't expect the taxpayer to subsidize your retirement. If you're living out on the street when you're 70 years old, don't expect anyone to throw you a nickel.

Why that and not a low cost index fund? Even with a savings account on the higher end of interest, you are still losing to inflation.

I was poor as a kid and got traumatized lol. Did everything in my power, got multiple degrees to never have to go without something I wanted ever again. Most people that grew up well off can't relate to how I feel towards money.
