In on this. I eat out once a week, drive a 10 year old car. Only debt is mortgage which is still lower than the average rent in my city

Mirin' some of the savings in here. Thought I was doing well putting away ~1k a month in addition to paying down mortgage aggressively in an insane housing market but some of you put me to shame. Reps on RC

The point of life is to live free. Don't spend on things for the sake of it - eating out, etc.
Spend it on the things you really want. Rather have a few nice things than a lot of mediocre things.
Balance.

Drive a 24 year old Toyota Camry crew. I bought a rental two years ago and make "milk money" off that. I've been agressively trying to get into flipping in my area. It's taken me 10 years of saving to have this opportunity. I hope it pans out.
I woke up this morning still breathing. Might as well take advantage of it.
Working every day to be just a little stronger, healthier, or smarter than yesterday.

Some perspective for frugal brahs:
Best friend and his gf were frugal as fuk.
They had a chit ton saved up.
Then boom, they died after being rear ended and pushed into traffic.
They never lived, they never got to enjoy their life. They just stayed in and saved.

You had me until "living in my moms attached apartment."
You arent being frugal by living in your moms basement, errr, I mean apartment. If you want to subtly brag about how much you save while being frugal, do it when you are truly on your own and have real person rent/bills, etc. Until then you are essentially living with mommy and daddy and giving them a gift to do so...

My wife and I are able to save $1600+/mo living the frugal lifestyle. But we are not lacking in amenities, we just dont have poor spending habits.
A costco membership through my workplace enables us to save a chit ton of money of chicken breast, almonds, almond butter, frozen fruits, bread, etc that we can buy in bulk for the month.
Our weekly trips to the grocery store are for fresh fruits/veggies, ground turkey, and weekly items. We probably save 100-200/mo just on our grocery bill like this.
We rarely go to the movies, but if we do its on $7 tickets on Tuesday night. Bring in our own candy and drinks in her purse.
Do not eat out on week night unless a special occasion.
Mostly brew our own coffee at home, but I need my iced coffee from the local coffee house so I have a coffee budget.
Other than that there is no spending during the week, so we can do fun things on the weekend, or stay at home and keep on saving.
Only pay $900 in rent living in my mothers home's attached apartment while we save for a condo/house. At that point we will only increase the monthly rent/mortgage budget up a few hundred.
Both drive old cars, from 2004 & 2006. Insurance together is only $84 through Geico with good coverage.
On virgin mobile phone plans paying $30/mo plus tax for unlimited /5g internet.
We have dreams of one day being financially independent and we both have a good head on our shoulders when it comes to money.
Would like to retire close to a beach.

I used to be a bad spender, so I don't have a whole lot saved.
Currently, I owe about 4k on a used car, 2k on a credit card (did a balance transfer so no interest), and about $500 on my LASIK bills.
I find that if I cut out a lot of small things, it adds up. No fast food runs, no 7-11 energy drinks, no Dunkin Donuts coffee runs.
Got any tips on what to buy at Costco in bulk? I meal prep once a week.

I really enjoyed the documentary Minimalism on Netflix. One thing that really resonated with me was that it wasn't about living uncomfortably, bare-bones with no material possessions, but rather only buying things that add true value to your life. Keyword is value. I think about this before I grab gross takeout food instead of cooking or I buy some crappy kitchen appliance that I don't need (electric wine opener. put that back).

I totally agree with saving for the future. We hope to have enough saved over the next 5 years to put a huge down on a house. I rarely shop these days and when I do I shop at Marshall's, Ross, TJ.Maxx, Amazon, eBay. We also save on groceries by purchasing meat from Costco in bulk and freezing it in family size portions. Majority of meals are cooked at home. One of the best ways to save is by not having a huge family. Kids are expensive. By only having two children we will never need anything larger than a 3 bedroom house or a car that fits 5.

In.
-I steal my buddies lighters when we smoke to save money on lighters.
-I borrow my roommate's car and never put in gas. I'm saving a lot in gas money.
-I steal beer from Highschool parties because I'm bigger than them. I save a lot on beer.
On average, I'd say I save $200 a month doing this. Not really to save money, but because I enjoy this lifestyle
-------Not srs about any of this, lmfao.
