It would not have passed in a meet. Pause was good but Iceman just awared me on "heaving". I will have to do a little research on this, I think. I have never looked for and, to be honest, never knew this was something that could earn a red light.

Thanks for the offer. You are now a reference for future videos

Did you sink it into your chest and then your chest actually helped push the bar up?

I gota a pair of paused 315's today @ 181, 25 days out from my comp.

Thought that was legal? I had a guy tie me last year and that describes his form. It was given a pass.he won cause he did his first.

In my fed, the current 342 @ 241 in 2nd place likely would not have been a good lift. I can only speak for my fed. I can't do singles sinking into my chest so I go slow and controlled through the whole lift. I can see the value in that technique though, coiled up like spring for the rebound, I used to deadlift that way.
Don't put that on me Ricky Bobby, don't you ever put that on me.

I've got nearly 5 years of competitions in and several 1st place trophies in my basement gym. Hit a wall and redid my squat to rely on strength rather than gimmicky mechanics and my deadlift to rely on proper mechanics over strength. Thank goodness bench aint never been a problem

The reason a heave gets you a red light is bar movement. Once you get the press command, the bar can only go up. Any downward motion is a red light. Dropping into your chest after a press command isn't any different than if you couldn't raise it. We would call no lift and have the spotters pull it.

USAPL is strict, but it makes you control the weight. It's probably more strict than you are looking for here.

Solid advice! You can learn a few quick tips that may add a few pounds, but they won't help you progress. If anything, you cheat yourself out of building real strength.

A. Theres no rule as to how quick you have to descend on the bench
B. You cannot sink the bar into the chest AFTER the press command is given.

My bro actually brings the bar down very controlled, but got red lighted at the same meet because it came down very slow so after the press command was given it actually sunk a little bit before going upwards. I may bring the bar down fast and sink it into my chest, but after the press command is given there is no downward movement, that's the key.

Obviously a lot of this depends on the federation... but I wouldn't have given that lifter the press command. IMO, he didn't demonstrate a controlled decent. The bar was not still at the bottom. I would have waited for it to stop wobbling. Then again, USAPL doesn't allow the lifters head to leave the bench either lol.

Really? was not aware of that, why would that even be a consideration FFS. In my fed if your ass, feet and shoulders are planted, you're golden.

Roger that. Only thing that can move is the bar. This site has good info on heave, too.

I get change in lifting position as points of leverage, but not sure why irrelevant things like raising your head or shaking legs would disqualify you.

At any rate I won't make PLwatch rankings because so many bench only douches exist.

Easy now. Disc issue with L4-L5 keeps me from squatting and DL currently. That doesn't make me a DB. The fact that I bench more than most can sq or dl might. Lol. Just messing. Where are all the lifts. Come on people.

I can get where you're coming from but at comps I see mostly lazy fat guys doing bench only, Takes like 4 flights.

I trained for over 2 hours today on bench and squat, grueling, heavy prep work, sore AF, can hardly walk. Will probably lose the bench crown to some guy that just does heavy bench singles 3 times a week after eating at Burger King.

ayye.

Yeah not a lazy fat guy. But I do like burgers. Just not Burger King. Whataburger all the way. I need to go do a bench comp. just never make time. 5 or so years ago I was doing full meets. Just got busy I guess.
