Apparently this guy ran onto the plane a second time after being removed once. It doesn't matter what his profession is, this is a standard (crappy) airline policy of overlooking and then having to accommodate standby crew. It actually sucks he got selected at random, but he should have gotten off plain and simple. He chose to fly, he could have taken a car, bus or train. In fact this entire thing forced everyone else to be late.

It's a crap policy airlines do, but you gotta abide by the rules buddy, as a doctor he should know that.

Yes they should not have forcefully removed him like that, not sure who gave authority to them.

I get that he shouldn't have to get off the plane, since he has his ticket and already on board. It's pretty unfair for him.

Regardless of the reason why they needed that seat, if the airline tells him he has to get off and he says no. Security is there to get him off. If he still refuses to move, they can't just say "oh okay you wont get off, you can stay then". No. They will take him off by force if necessary. It's not like they beat the guy down. It clearly looks like the security guy pulled him out of the seat.

I'm not saying the airlines were in the right. But we don't know the exact circumstances. We do know that the airlines apologized to the passengers and admitted they ****ed up with over booking. They looked for volunteers first while offering more money than the flight cost.

At the same time, this is the issue with security these days. It's almost impossible to do your job. You tell the person they need to leave. They refuse to leave. You either a. use force and it turns out like this sjw witch hunt or b. it doesn't get resolved until authorities get there making them pointless in the first place.

doctor was smart af. first he refused, then he had his "pity" story about going to treat people and being a doctor and finally threatened to call his lawyer. too many red flags right there and they should have moved on but instead escalated... he screams on purpose to make it seem even more dramatic and plays dead as they drag him away. i'm no fortune teller, but all i can see is $$$$$$$$

Let's be real... nobody is going to stand up and help the guy, and most people are going to forget this happened in a few days. Do you really think UA is going to suffer? They've already said to 'contact the authorities' for questions - they'll deflect blame any way they can. All these people saying they'll never fly united are full of it.

I don't care of the guy is a doctor or a tradie, nobody should be treated like that. Airlines overbook so often these days it's ridiculous. And they get away with it.

I only fly delta but once they overbooked my Atlanta to Louisville flight and they ended up having to offer 1300 before two people took it.

Edit: I was in line to get the 1300 myself lol

The airline did not offer a fair compensation to miss the flight.
If it had been a fair number than someone would have accepted it.
Anybody with half a clue how economics works can see this.

The airline was being cheap and did not serve their customers.
That is not a good way to run a business.

^^This but they started at $400 then bumped it up to $800 but still not enough. However It should be the price of the ticket + $200/300 extra for inconvenience.

Now if $800 did cover the ticket and the $200/300 extra then $800 would be a reasonable price

This isn't the 1st airline fawk up and it's not going to be the last. Airlines will continue to act this way because, well they can. They are the only with the planes so you have no other choice but to put up with it.

That happened to me except they asked who wants to leave.

I was offered a cash sum.....then 10 round trip flights first class anywhere in the U.S. after that I became a preferred member and got automatic first class upgrades
