I did the technical analysis when we acquired our original acreage positions, then put together reserve reports for investors and banks while we developed the asset. That's correct. The shares I have right now are restricted until July and valued at about $10M now. At that time I'll be free to sell all of it if I think the price is good. I probably won't sell it all. I'll be awarded more shares over the next three years that will be unrestricted.

Would grab a few more if my $ was not tied up. Buddy just moved to Colombia and he loves it. Plan to take a trip to visit him and asses if grabbing something there is a good investment.

I can hook you up with people in Panama if you wanna see some stuff.

Humans need meaning. Without it, they are not happy and no amount of $ will change that.

I get satisfaction out of building/creating things. I'd probably build a house from scratch and make it totally off the grid energy wise. Solar power really interests me at the moment.

Don't worry about becoming a piece of sh*t or an LDAR lifestyle. You got yourself into a good industry, you have accumulated 8 figures for yourself and your family. You have a wife and kids. You're already far beyond 80% of the misc. Congratulations.

Are you retiring tomorrow OP? I know you said you can retire early but how soon are we talking? Even if you're retiring tomorrow, why do you have to be stressing so hard about this right this second? It's definitely important to start thinking about it, but you don't have to jump right into something RIGHT NOW. You have the money to maintain yourself and your family and enjoy the luxuries while you start planning the rest of your life.

The most important thing to start off with is to manage your finances for your kids. It seems like you're responsible with your money, so I'm assuming you already have a college fund for your kids. As long as you're managing those finances and keeping a maintainable lifestyle with what you've got, I think at this point all you need to do is start experimenting and thinking about the future.

Good thread, glad you're starting to think about the rest of your life and how you would like to continue being a functioning member of society - but don't stress out too much. Take advantage of the time you have to get out there and being proactive without worrying too much. Just enjoy it!

- If someone offered you a Billion dollars to stop [insert activity] for the rest of your life.....If you'd refuse it,you're one step closer to finding your passion. The said activity can obviously not be part of basic human needs like eating,drinking,sleeping,sex,etc.

What could you do all day and never tire of doing it. You basically wake up at 5am and spend the whole day doing it till 10pm. When you go to bed at night,you cant wake up again at 5am and do it again.

This looks sophomoric but it helped me. I hadn't made any progress on a certain goal in >10 years/hadn't really concretized the steps to pursue it until I mapped them out last December. I met that goal last month.

This worksheet is part of a planner that became popular on kickstarter. There's more to it than this but this is the meat of it.

After filling out this worksheet/mind map I diy'd 3 year calendar, a simple 36 cell table that fits on one piece of paper. I transferred the due dates to the 3 year calendar and added them to my weekly planner as well. Then I broke the projects into smaller action steps there.

I was unemployed for almost 3 months last year and I loved it more than I could have imagined. Luckily I had hobbies I was passionate about. Probably 6 days a week I went fishing in the ocean and bay near my house and my dad would often join me.

Pretty much everyday I woke up and had coffee with my girlfriend at the time while she got her son ready for school. As she left for work I would go to the gym. Shower after and go fishing. It was amazing spending so much time with her and seeing my dad probably 3 times a week.

I wasn't in money like you but I had savings. I probably contributed more financially than she did, I wasn't a leech.

Family and hobbies can burn a lot of time. Try it out and see if you like it. I probably have one of the best fly casts in the northeast now with how many hours I was doing it last summer.

If i had your kind of money I'd start a fly fishing guide service in the Florida keys

I can sell you a few 4-6 unit apartment buildings in DC that will return you 8-12% a year off section 8 voucher rentals. Hire a property manager, gov't direct deposits the rent. It's a good business if you don't have to actually do the property management.

First thing I'd do is cash out my stock. I'd feel really uneasy about having that high a percentage of my money tied up in one company. Diversify your portfolio.

Second thing I'd do is murder my wife, so she can't divorce me and take half (not srs)

What was your position within your company out of curiosity? I'm assuming you were upper management, to be getting that much.

If I had that much money, I would invest in a bunch of real estate in So Cal and let it grow passively. Then I would take like a year long vacation to travel the world and think about what I want to do with the rest of my life, let inspiration hit me.

Probably go back to school and take classes that interest me, just for fun and to meet young college sloots.

I'm in a similar situation OP. Young, was lucky in business, and am now "semi" retired.

Going back to school to get my teacher's license. I'm in this position because a teacher changed my life(srs), so I want to give back.

Should probably find something you're passionate about and go through with it.
