- Selling an ASUS Eee mini laptop
- A couple months old, set a fair price ($200, new they were $350 I think)

- Call both dudes, decide to go with $200 guy (obviously)
- $150 calls me at least five times, asking when we're going to meet
- Tell $150 I already sold it, meet with $200 and he gives me cash
- $150 texts me repeatedly for the next few hours
- Calls and leaves a two minute voicemail, sobbing about how he's disabled and needed the laptop for his therapy or something
- More texts and voicemails over the course of several days
- Blocked the number, uses a different number, get random calls for several weeks asking about the laptop

So nope, no more phone numbers used ever.

You also have to realize that when you post an item on Craigslist you are dealing with the scum of the earth. These kind of low balls offers come with the territory. Craigslist is a necessary evil when you are trying to sell something.

I set up a google voice number for this reason. I can filter calls/offers with it.

I figure with just emails I'm much more likely to get lots of lowball people, scammers, and other shady people who are using anonymity to their benefit.

The problem with bikes is there isn't really a good way to determine value IMO. I sold a GT road bike earlier this week for $210 and got like 5 offers the first day. That tells me I priced it too low. The bike im selling now is a Gary Fisher Sugar 292 29"er for $800. The thing originally retailed for $2750. I'm more or less basing that price on ebay sales and what other full suspensions are being listed on craigslist for (most of which have worse components for the same price).

Honestly though... I'm open for ideas on how to value bikes.

Got my rack, an Oly, EZ, and 300 some in plates for $150 out on this crazy hick island off the west coast of Florida. Dudes girlfriend was literally helping us load all the chit into the back of the truck - you could tell she wanted it GONE and he didn't lmao.

My parents want me to sell some 20 year old chitty bench they have for them on craigslist. Bar is threaded for those spinlocks. About 300lbs in random weights. No clue what to list it for. Looks a lot like this...

If you're set on the price you put, be sure to specify "firm" in the posting. "Price is $1000, firm"

Then when they email you to negotiate or a low offer you just reply "Price is firm". Done deal

I was thinking $50.
With spin weights the bars are rarely strong enough for anything over 200lbs in my understanding. I'd say $50 tops.

lol its comical seeing what some people on craigslist are asking for their used ****. Some guy I saw earlier was asking way too much for a set of oem wheels/tires that had 2 curbed wheels and 15k miles on the tires. He rated the tires 9.5/10 lmao. Bald ass tires must be about an 8-8.5/10 in his book.

It was pretty rusted out for sure, but it was all surface rust. I wire wheeled it, LocTite to get in the crevices, and hit it with Rustoleum. Good as new.

In on this. Sold many things on craigslist and it blows. Pretty sure most of em are poor and looking for a good deal to resell for drug money. Met them a couple times and they were street riff raff.

Recently been trying to sell individual 55, 60 and 65 lb dumbbells and people keep showing up to pay then complain midway through that the price isnt for a set of dumbbells and they arn't interested. I explicitly pointed this out in the ad and I still get many questions about it and people showing up asking why it isnt a set.

I've sold $4000 mtbs for 700 2 years later.

Those things were known to snap at the chain stays and shock mounts.

I'd be afraid to even ride it.

But for real mtbs drop about 50% the first time you ride it almost.
