Jesus you guys lack some serious critical thinking. DOGS GET OUT unless they're behind a padlocked steel cage 24/7 there is a chance.

I have a fenced in yard that doesn't keep some kid playing a joke opening the gate or whatever. Yes it's the owners fault but it happens. Dogs get out have got out and will continue to get out from not until the end of time even with the most careful owners.

Very dangerous to discharge a gun in a residential area. Also no guaranty that the first shot will do the trick (seen this with a deer that had been hit).

Sledgehammer is actually a safe and relatively uncruel method is that it is over quickly.

Again, that changes nothing and it's not that hard to contain a dog, if you're responsible. Anyway, it's still on the owner.

Dumb ******* deer jump out onto roads, dogs aren't as fast unless they're in a full sprint. Most deer carcasses are from people hitting them at night because they can't see or they suddenly jump out. Since the article said so many people were surrounding the dog, I'm guessing it was day. Also, pit bulls are rather large and would be easy to spot on a road with a max speed limit of 40 AT MOST but still probably less.

The lady at the scene was trying to take it to a vet, and fuko the clown shows up with a sledgehammer. Yea, I am sure he's a solid guy, probably put razor blades in the Halloween candy he hands out.

Not on a leash. Glad it is dead. No way the guy should have gone on his property though.

I kill feral cats all the time. They kill all the native stuff. Laughable people can shoot deer/ducks on your property but it is against the law to feral/unleashed cats/dogs on your property.

unfortunately the responsibility starts with the owner. i have a dog and it's my job to keep him contained ESPECIALLY when i'm not home. if he breaks out of my house (which can not happen if doors are shut and locked, i don't understand this "it happens" argument) whatever happens next is still my fault.

it's all shocking and sad but the owners have to take responsibility here unless there's more to the story about how/why the dog is outside the house when they're not home.

Sorry but if your dog gets out because your fence isn't tall enough to contain them, that's your fault. And no, it isn't something that "happens." My dogs are always outside but never have escaped in 10+ years because my fence is at the proper height.

Of course it's on the owner. My argument was you automatically labeling the owner irresponsible because his dog got out. Animals get out. Animals escape from zoos with multi-million dollar enclosures and security staff with multiple layers of fencing. It happens it doesn't automatically make the owner irresponsible.

i've known dogs that were hit by cars, or run over. they've survived. if you took away my chance to make that choice for myself, I would rip your head off. There's a reason I pay monthly for pet insurance. you have no idea whether the dog could have been saved.

Only way i would be okay with this scenario is if the dude who put my dog out of his misery was a licensed veterinarian.

The owner wasn't there until after the fact.

exactly

just think about all the dog abuse videos that circulate ********, with someone causing an abandoned dog to lose a leg because they didn't change their bandage ever, or to grow up without a snout because of some previous damage that the owner didn't want to fix, so they just left the dog to fend for itself.

Every time i see one of these videos, i rage, and then am amazed by the fact that the dog can not only recover, but go on to be a happy animal who brings happiness to others. And usually, these are cases where I would write the dog off as a total loss and assume they are going to die within a matter of days, regardless of how much help I receive.

So anyone who says this dude is in the fukin right to make the choice of whether someone else's dog lives or dies is a fukin heartless azzhole, or just absolutely and willfully ignorant. We aren't living in the 1800's anymore.

actually a very good argument considering a dog is considered property. you don't get to decide what happens with other people's property. The dog was not hurting anyone by laying on the grass bleeding. While it sucks that the dog was in pain, I'm sure the dog would have appreciated it if he could have been saved, instead of being killed. How do you know the owner wasn't on his way home as it happened? or just around the corner?

not to mention the story fukkin says another neighbor wanted to take the dog to the vet, but the dude took initiative and killed the dog anyway

stop being ****ing obtuse you idiot
12 News decided to verify the decision officers made by looking into the law. We first pulled state statute ARS 13-2910, which covers cruelty to animals. A person commits cruelty to animals if the person does any of the following: (5) Intentionally, knowingly or recklessly kills any animal under the custody or control of another person without either legal privilege or consent of the owner.
there is a fukin reason the dude is being arrested now

lol the more I read into the article, the dumber this dude is.

ex-National guard and athlete, so that gives him authority to know when a life is beyond saving?
used a golf swing type hit that requires follow through for maximum impact, instead of the proper fukkin way a sledgehammer is supposed to be used? which would be the most humane way?

hit the dog on the back of the neck instead of striking through the skull?

EVEN ****ING ADMITS HE WOULD BE MAD IF SOMEONE DID IT TO HIS DOG?!

guarantee you I'm negging you as soon as I'm off recharge for you ****ing stupid response

oh wait AND after he did all this, he just went back in his ****ing home without calling cops, vet, owner, or anything. Keep defending his actions lmao.

The owner IS irresponsible because his dog got out. Yes, he is automatically irresponsible and it cost the dog its life. On the other hand the dog could have attacked someone which would be grounds to put the dog down immediately. It's entirely on the owner.

If animals are breaking out of the zoo it's because they didn't take the necessary precautions to ensure that the animals don't escape. The zoo is responsible in these scenarios just like the owner is responsible in THIS scenario. We're not talking silverback gorillas, elephants, lions, rhinos, etc., it's a domesticated animal and with the proper fencing and precautions, it stays on the owner's property where it belongs. It's not rocket science.

If you buy a gun and your kid finds it and shoots himself, his friend, or family members, guess what? YOU'RE irresponsible. You should have locked it up and kept it inaccessible. Let me guess, "Oh well, these things happen, y'know you can't control kids!" Amazes me that people can just cast responsibility to the wind, your dog, your responsibility and if you can't fulfill that responsibility, you're...irresponsible.

he kills the dog because he felt it was the right thing to do but he’d object to someone doing what he did to his own pet. he probably let the neighbors dog out.

Yes, I would have grabbed a blanket from my trunk and driven the doge to the ER vet.
