People go mental when you recommend adding accessory lifts to SS or changing it in any way. Following it as it is written will put you in supreme T Rex mode with huge fat legs, skinny arms and a pot belly.

The low volume army is incredibly annoying.
BRB, 1 set of deadlifts, 3 sets of 5 squats, and 2 sets of Lat Pulldowns is plenty of volume BRAH!
BRB, expecting to make serious gains training 3 times a week, BRAH!
BRB, deadlifts develop your biceps BRAH!
Ridiculous.
PHAT ftw

That's alright, you don't actually have to read books and articles or watch movies or listen to albums to comment on them: this is the internet. But if anyone would like aninformedopinion about it, the course is clear.
But really: Rip's not a nutrition guy, and has said so. His nutrition advice, such as it is, is about as useful as saying, "squat? just put the bar on your back and go up and down" - it's true, but it's far from the whole truth, and will leave most people a bit lost. Being lost but offering directions anyway is, as I said, what the internet is all about. Thus Stevie P's rant.

OP, I fell for the stupid "squats will give you mad gainz because dat dere testosterone release" meme and delayed my progress. You mind posting yours or a good bro split? I always lol at the full boy/Upper-Lower thing because all the dudes that I've seen IRL who are aesthetic are on 1x a week splits with lots of volume and 1-2 strength-based exercises.

Not gonna lie, I ran SS for a year when I first started lifting. Got way stronger but still looked like ****. Decided to hop on an U/L & PPL and look a million times better.
Honestly I believe peoples bodies respond differently to certain routines because my buddy who recommended SS to me only ran that and 5/3/1 and he looked great.
Basically its trial and error until you find out what works best for you.

There's far better program than SS for a noobie to start with that will provide far better gains & they are backed up by science.

I've bulked ~20-30lbs while on a dirty bulk so far and loving it.
Sure I've gained fat, obviously, but at the same time I don't have to worry about macros & for most skinny people we don't have problems with cutting down, gaining some extra fat is fine. For me at least.
I prefer to dirty bulk & make sure I'm eating enough to "maximize" my gains & not have to worry about what I eat.
It's not for everyone though, a lot of people don't have an easy time like me cutting down

I do 4 pyramid sets for everything
Day 1 Chest + Tris
Flat bench
Incline bench
Flys
Close grip bench
weighted dips
rope push downs
reverse grip pulldowns on flat bar
day 2 back and bis
Deads
Weighted pullups
Lat pulldown
Bent over row
Barbell curl
Rear delt fly
preacher curl
hammer curl
reverse curl
Day 3 shoulders + squats
Seated dumbell press
side lat raise
front raise
upright row
8 sets of various squats
Day 4 Arms
(all the arm stuff i do on bi and tri days again)
Day 5 legs
Front squats
Squats
stiff D/L
leg press
hamstring push machine thing
calf raises
Yeah that's basically it. then i just repeat with no off days, a lot of people will rage at that routine but i've got brilliant results from doing basically that with slight tweaks to bring up any lagging areas

99% of pps are not as naturally lean as you and should never even consider a dirty bulk.

You guys are such retards...there is nothing wrong with the program at all.
It teaches you the fundamentals and builds the entire body as a unit rather than morons showing off an 700lbs leg press to only squat 200lbs lulz.
Do the program as it tells you and once you have a 250lbs bench, 350lbs squat and deadlift THEN you can start looking at other things.

I did ss when I started before going to an upper lower then to ppl.
You won't get to 350 squat with ss unless you're the most gifted lifter in the world...
Starting strength, imo, is good because it forces noobs to adapt to high intensity workouts and aggressive progressive overload. And they can properly learn how to perform the 3 lifts, which are usually the most technical and 'dangerous' staple lifts in most routines.
If you do it right, noobs won't be on ss for long. Youll start stalling on lifts.
The only two routines I'd recommend a noob is a variation of SS and lyle mcdonalds upper lower. Nothing else is optimal imo.

The only way that will happen is if you don't follow the fkn program.
There is zero chance that you doing overhead press and bench twice a week and squat 3x a week will have you squat 350 and bench 150. There's no fkn way.
You're hitting chest and arms twice a week. Plus if you are doing Chins as the program says in phase 2 that is 3x workouts that is hitting the arms

Probably because when you reach the point where you're anywhere near what OP or any other shredded guy looks like you won't be enduring a full body session.
Good luck Deadlifting, squatting, benching + a few other exercises all while lifting heavy in a single session.
Generally full body workouts are best for a few months, a year tops, generally half a year, afterwards lower frequency, higher volume like bro splits are recommended
