Well being a film buff I would advise the chronological order. That way you get to see the advancement in the writing, technical presentation, directing, etc.

Of course this is more from an analytical perspective of film rather than an entertainment one. After seeing a modern presentation of a movie, you can understand while most viewers would be reluctant to then go back and watch the same movie in a comparatively primitive B&W/1950s style.

I think most of us watch movies for entertainment.

I remember someone got his GF to watch Stars from the prequels to the originals, and pretty much ruined it for her. She said she had no idea what was going on for the first few films (no context).

Just watched the Netflix original "Spectral"

No award winner, but if you like senseless violence and action its worth a watch. I enjoyed it. Unique plot.

Which is why you don't want to ever study cinema. Once you learn about how its done, movies are never quite the same after that.

That's different. Those were designed to be concurrent. But if it didn't work as expected, then that's the sign of not so good filmmaking vs the better stuff. Then again, there's no accounting for taste. Is she even a fan of the genre? Case in point. ^^
