Tl;dr follow orders and keep your hands visible at all times, don't do drugs

SCOTUS ruled in Graham v Connor that use of force incidents are to be judged by what the officer(s) knew at the time, rather than 20/20 hindsight. With this, Ofc Shelby responded to a call where motorists had stated that this man had something in his vehicle that was going to blow up. Upon arrival, he acted erratically, and due to her training and experience, she had a reasonable belief that he was under the influence of PCP. When guns were drawn, he reached into the vehicle after being told to show his hands numerous times. Ofc Shelby, nor anyone else, knew what, if anything, was in the vehicle. He could have been reaching for a gun, or any other sort of weapon. It was very reasonable for Ofc Shelby to believe that her life and others lives were in danger at that moment.

I didn't say file a complaint, I said get legal help because PDs will always look out for their own.

Go ahead and back up your argument. You get questioned/stopped or whatever by a cop, explain to me how being a dickhead and disobeying him is going to help you in any way? You're going to get yourself cuffed, arrested or in this case like this guy, shot and killed.

If this incident never happened --

The cop would go on to do more good for the community tomorrow.

The suspect would be taking more drugs and hurting the community tomorrow.

I'm glad she got ruled not guilty. Why are you crazy people siding with the guy on PCP?

Right except that people don't deserve to get shot for not following a cops commands.

In this video the suspect clearly didn't endanger the cops life's. In b4 "b-b-but people are unpredictable".

Too scared to be able to deal with unpredictable people without always resorting to deadly force because it makes you fear for life? THEN DONT BECOME A COP. It's inherently a dangerous job.

I don't like cops very much but if you're high af and acting squirrely there's a chance they might shoot you to prevent themselves from being shot. It's not a hard concept to grasp yet idiots still do dumb chit and get shot then everyone cries about it.

If you're too crazy or drugged up to follow a cop's orders, society is better off without you. There's ~0% chance that you're going to be doing good for the community and not hurting normal people the next day.

i'm not a cop apologist by any means. we all know good cops, and we all know those that we went to hs with that had a chip on their shoulder that became cops to get off on it somehow. with that said, here are some basic rules coppers told me:

1. if pulled over, hands visible, etc.
2. you will absolutely not win any argument, no matter how many exponential times you are more in the right than the cop
3. if you are innocent, control your temper, as the cop is doing the same. you are being recorded. if the cop's a dick, it's on camera
4. if you got pulled over for a traffic incident, and you are innocent, you have any number of options to fight it. we all know someone who ran a red light. if the cop's not there to testify if you go to court, you get off. yes, you will lose time off work, etc. but it's worth it.
5. if the cop is a dick, and downright abusive, congrats, in 2017 you can get a settlement for that.

you as the driver are always going to lose in that initial contact. maintain your composure, smile, and build your case.
if you are guilty, pay the fine. if you are nice enough, the cop will let you off with a warning (if there's no priors, etc).

just stay cool. he's got a gun and a club.

I just don't understand why cops aren't allowed to beat people anymore.

It's like there's nothing inbetween wrestling/tasering a resistant suspect and shooting them 50 times... This guy was walking away while 8 cops were standing there... Why couldn't two of them step in and beat the chit out of this guy literally in order to save his life??

because it's easier for the cops/pd to get off on murder charges than racism these days. that's the world we live in. you kill someone = one side of the story. someone lives = 2 sides of the story, less chance of innocence.
