You underestimate the speed of dogs running after a target. Go look at some runt running faster than even the likes of Usain Bolt could run and its just chasing a fukin ball or stick. You're gonna have to think real quick and react faster when you see the dog coming and then process whats happening. Most people freeze up because they're desk jockeys and their caveman hunter instinct is buried beneath whats on television and the internet.
So then you about to go down with the dog. LOL @ you kicking a dog as it runs full pelt at you and you run or kick full pelt. Bad idea because you're going to break your foot, ankle and leg in one go and possibly dislocate your hip. Try fighting a dog whilst being a cripple, you're dead meat.
You kick a dog in the sides if it isn't attacking you, never front on. Just LMFAO!
Other messy details - dogs can chew through your arms and legs like they chew through any toy or bone. Think that tasty bone marrow or your tattoos gonna stop those teeth? Nope.
Blood loss: nuff said.
If you want to tackle a dog 1 on 1 you need to get rid of its ability to bite you. Dogs are fukin useless without their mouths. They are not cats so just muzzle them or choke them with your legs and bodyweight.
Saying that, gun or knife works but who says you're gonna see the dog before it gets you?

whew tough one...
I would say you can assume its going to latch on somewhere - Maybe its best to face it, ready stance with legs shoulder width and bent knees, arms in grapple mode. You can play footsie and make noises likes grunts - go full beast mode basically.
Should intimidate them, but if we assume it will latch I think its best to give the back of your forearm, then use your body weight to shove into its face. Try to get it pinned on the ground and emphasize holding its neck/head to the floor. Shoving your weight into its face/mouth will probably push it back, down and to the floor.
If you actually manage to do that you could probably hold it for a while or go into a choke and just strangle it to death.
tldr; beast mode stance, yelling growling, accept a latch on your outer forearm (non vital hopefully), and then pin it using body weight. Also pray to jeezus

Take off my shirt and wrap it around my left arm.
Hold left arm out for him to latch on to.
Use right arm to eye-gouge/punch/whatever
I'm almost certain this would not work but it sounds nice.

I have had a pit bull attack me.
Luckily I saw it before it could get at me unaware. I was working on my lawn mower on the driveway and had work boots on.
It lunged at me and stomped downwards with my boot knocking its head into the ground. It backed off snarling and would attempt more lunges with the same result.
I backed off slowly into my garage where I had a 6' length of PVC pipe. I started going after it with the pipe. It was leary of the PVC pipe, but wouldn't run off, just back up.
I eventually was able to herd into my backyard and locked it up in there.
Called the county sheriff who informed me they had no animal control officer. I was within my rights to defend myself, but if I shot it, make sure it died or I could face animal cruelty charges.
I kept it locked up until that evening when a lady came by looking for it. I mean mugged her and told her the story. She seemed embarrassed. The dog was happy to see her and wasn't aggressive at all towards me when she was there.

this is such a stupid question. I am a big pitbull person. The dog is aggressive due to the owner and the owner only. If its chasing you, you probably did something to provoke the dog. my pitbull that I have had for 5 years is a giant lapdog. Never even barks unless provoked.

punch? kick? gouge? choke?

Even if you don't have any weapons, stand your ground. You're not gonna outrun the dog and running away will only encourage it to view you as prey. I've had a few seemingly aggressive dogs come at me and never had to take any action. If it actually latches onto you going for it's eyes is probably your best hope of causing it enough pain to make it let go.

Well if a big dog comes at you, he will most likely get a hold of one of your limbs. Once that happens, if you have the mind to do it, grab his throat and squeeze with that double overhand deadlift grip.

I'd take off my shirt and wrap it around my left arm and loop my belt around my left shoulder. I'd use the wrapped left forearm as bait and while he's completely destroying my left arm I'd slide the belt down from my shoulder over his neck, put one foot on his neck and pull with every ounce of energy I had.

The sad part is your story isn't exactly the only "pitbull goes around looking for people/things to fuk up" story. It's one of many, glad you were able to avoid harm and also not kill the dog, b/c you know the owner would have hit you with some bullchit.

I was on the driver side of my vehicle near the front tire bent over working on the lawnmower. It came around the car from the rear and spotted me.
Seems like most expect the dog to jump up and latch onto your arm. The one I fought didn't. It simply kept lunging in every so often at my leg as we faced off.
I guess your average family pitbull isn't trained or smart enough to come in leaping up at your arms/neck.

Thought about this before entering thread. I'm going with this as well. I also thought of trying to kick it right in the jaw as it approaches but I feel like there is too much room for error and if you miss you are most likely really fukd. I guess I'd give up my left arm and try to gouge, punch, etc.
