In terms of the investments, despite some Miscer's knocking it, they were genuinely impressed. Maybe not so much at the 9% but the fact that I picked 8 things and all 8 were winners. And more so that I was able to elaborate on them, and exactly why and when I knew my entry and exit points.
The Private Equity ambition intrigued them and they were curious about the Nigeria and Indian possible acquisitions of start ups. I was expecting them to go Misc level callouts, but the MD in particular was very helpful, supportive and offered me advice rather than run a train on my Angus.
He asked me the following question which was quite interesting:
Would you rather we gave you a Graduate job or would you rather we invested in your business for a stake of the equity?
I was quite shocked, but pleased that they were taking it seriously, even if hypothetical. The MD said I will go far and even if I don't get the job, to message him any time because he liked my balls.
The most random question I got asked was can I estimate how many clocks there are in London? And what is this as a percentage to the amount of clocks in the UK?
Overall I am pleased I got this far and gained some vital interview skills and possibly crucial contacts, despite my chances being slim. My ultimate goal in life is entrepreneurship and I expressed that to him and he said that you already know that some of the best founders are notable McKinsey alumni.
But the MD said that regardless of McKinsey on my CV or not, he believes that I have the drive and intellect and natural ability to do well as a Fund, Asset and Wealth Manager. And specifically expressed to continue to grow my portfolio and get more clients and if I can basically show GOAT % gains without any formal qualification or help of an investment firm; then in about 5 years time I can walk into middle management VP at any Investment Bank of my choosing.
Will let you know the result, but I think I may take a sabbatical either way. If I get it then I will get a September start and can travel. If I don't, I may still quit my job to work on my business for a couple months and travel while I'm "free" and hit up IBs again if I don't have the funds/resources/etc for a business... yet.
I told the MD this and he laughed and said this is exactly what Elon Musk did before he started his first business. And this is why I said you have balls kid. Do it!

So in a professional interview, the interviewers, who do not know you, said you had "balls", an extremely unprofessional thing to say to someone you barely know in an interview setting, and also compared you to Elon Musk.
They also asked if you'd rather have a job for them, or have them directly invest in your business.

You really are an autism, aren't you? The MD was clearly propositioning you. He didn't actually give a chit about your poverty portfolio, he wanted to go to pound town. "I like your balls".... how much clearer can he get and still have you miss the signs?!

Fellow engineering brah looking to work at Mckinsey down the line.
Don't think brahs on misc will understanding the significance of working at Mckinsey. You put that name on a resume and any large company will hire you, stick around working there long enough and you'll have the options to be on the board of fortune 500s or participate in startups with execs from the fortune 500. Problem is, you're traveling Mon-Thursday putting in minimum 60 hour work weeks. That's why Mckinsey (and Bain for that matter) pay the least out of the consulting companies because they know how valuable it is to be affiliated with that company. You become known as an "ex-Mckinsey guy." Most of the people that work there are all ivy league educated people and even they usually only last 2 years with the company.
That being said, OP not sure why you're so surprised, you've got big names on the resume along with previous experience at a consulting company (Deloitte). Mckinsey and Bain care a lot about brands for high end schools and top tier companies based on what I've read. The fund manager part is cool, but as long as you've got those brands and you're an engineer that's socially intelligent, I am not surprised you got an interview. I can see why that new job set you apart tho. Congrats and good luck.

Fuarkkkkk, just got off a 10 minute conversation with MD. He said that HR didn't accept me, but he wanted me to get the job. The HR lady is going to ring the rest of the candidates, but he rang me personally.
In the end, the two positions went to an internal McKinsey employee who got networked in by his dad at 18 and had been there for 3.5 years, and an MBA student from CASS Business School; which I expected and both of those guys were at my Assessment Centre day.
MD said to come and see him personally on Monday Bank Holiday and he will give me the business cards and contact a couple of people in London, India or the Gulf for an Oil job on a bigger scale; whether Trading or Consulting.
He told me to quit my current job and go travelling, even if for 1-3 months. He said that he saw the hunger and drive in my eyes for this business, and that I need to take a clean break and just focus on it, even if it's not to launch it yet, but to have the fundamentals down, and create a website/brochure to attract further investment and acquire more start ups.
MD said that he highly suggests that I do an MBA after 2 more years in an Oil job, and that he will personally write me a Letter of Recommendation which I joked would look a lot more powerful than my SME consulting firm in Wales. He has a network of contacts in London, so I will have interviews at LBS, CASS and Imperial. He said that he's very well connected to Imperial because that's where he went himself and as long as I can talk about the business thoroughly, have built up more gains, and have atleast 1 year more working experience, I will 100% get in.
Which in turn would be a Cambridge Masters + 3 years experience + college internships at big firms + Business launch + MBA from reputable business school = McKinsey Associate Job
So despite the immediate news for graduate job not being good, I have a lot of positives coming from the interview. I am going to give in my notice to current job today!

After reading through all of these novels, I have come to the broad realization that you must be a 35 year autistic subhuman living in your parent's basement. Your greatest achievement in life was probably the day you ate thewholenacho supreme's from Taco Bell without ruining the stalls of your local LARP port-a-potty later that day. Or maybe the day you got that associates degree in mythical dragons from some chitty junior college that you have to use the advanced search button on google just to find its website as the third link.
I would feel sorry for you, but in all reality I feel sorry for the family that raised and cared for you to see you end up as such an utterly disgrace of a person. You maybe one of the worst frauding miscers' I have ever seen. On your weekly skype calls with other autists please give SnowyOwl a hello from the rest of us.

Some good choices on your portfolio but you only have Β£5k? With the way you talk about yourself I would have thought you made more.
Also regarding these big companies, do they take in postgrads from the Oxbridge, UCL, LSE lot if their undergrad was at a non-target school? Asking because I am finding myself in that position.

If you want to explore PE, Mckinsey/Bain/Parthenon/LEK (strategy/commercial due dilegence).
If FS: MBB/OY/S&O etc
getting a tier 2 gig (think S&/Deloitte S&O/LEK/OY/ATK) will open close to as many doors as BB will

He is being sarcastic taking the piss out of how absurd the story is. I know for a fact this is bull, McKinsey in the UK were done grad recruiting and sending out offers by January. Pretty much anyone with mulitple options has had to decide on their other options by now. Still recruiting this late in the cycle would be catastrophic for them. The point about half the candidates having an MBA is bull because MBA candidates will be going for associate positions. To top it off we have this story about an MD offering a letter of recommendation to a guy he has interviewed.this makes no sense. if an MD (most firms use the partner rank in consulting)/partner wants a candidate, hes 100% getting in. lol @ HR said no. these guys have $ invested to become partners and bring in a chunk of revenue thru their clients. no way that the firm wouldnt be willing to hire an extra person to appease him.
