Looks like Intel caps out at 12 cores vs the 16 core offering from AMD. Additionally, AMD has 10, 12, 14, and 16 core offerings. Intel is pretty much gonna have to kiss my ass with great prices to keep me around, and given their track record of ostensibly price gouging... yeah I think a ~12-14 core R9 Threadripper sounds pretty good right now.

It'll all come down to price.

Looking at the image, I wonder exactly what they're doing. The lowest Kaby Lake-X is only 4 cores, with no hyperthreading (again, according to the spreadsheet). Since when do i7's not have hyperthreading? Are they doing away with i5's and just going to an i7/i9 scheme? Or are they only doing that on the extreme sockets (the new chipset will be x299)?

As for performance.. Intel usually has higher per core performance, but still, 12 cores vs 16.. if the Threadripper cores are even 90-95% as fast, and you get 4 more of them, I'd opt for the 1998x. Gaming performance would be more or less the same, and video editing (which I do a fair amount of) would easily be a win for the Ryzen.

Downclocking & undervolting while delivering insane computational power at almost no power draw and heat.

It's a Kaby Lake-X though. X meaning "Extreme Socket" (formerly E, like Broadwell-E is now Skylake/Kaby Lake-X). There are no i5 Extreme socket CPU's. Very peculiar. Maybe it's a misprint.

Yeah I saw it. Must be misprint. I dont see any real difference being on Kaby Lake X except for the base clock and higher TDP which is mainly due to higher clock.
PCI lanes, cache, etc are all the same as the 7600K.

I can't imagine having to get an expensive X299 board only to put a 7640K on it lol.

I hope AMD releases something with really high clocks. Doesn't have to have tons of cores either. Maybe a 8 core 16 thread chip with 4.0 ghz base clock. Sounds juicy.

RATE ME BRAHS, bought my rig last year for about $1150 total...plays everything at 4k, 60 fps 98-99% of the time.

Dell Precision T7500
Dual 5580s (2x quad core @ 3.2 GHz)
24 GB of DDR3
and a 1070 Gtx
1 TB HDD



No SSD though. lol im bad about finishing things. and i have to keep the cover off because it gets warm otherwise.

did i do good? or is this an obsolete POS running a skrub graphics card? dont hold back bros

Windows 10 will run on the 250gb along with various programs. Have had good exp with the 850.

id swap the 1600x to a 1600, if it only costs little more then yea go with 1600x.

How much more is the Crosshair 6 hero there? Its best supported am4 board by far, and its really great build quailty all around. MSI uses really cheap components on its flagship am4 board, i wouldnt personally go with msi.

Also cpu cooler is way overkill, if you like the looks etc then yeah sure, id go with soemthing like thermalright macho ( got one with my r7 1700 does excellent job..) and with saved money get the asus board.

Yea I might grab the Hero. I wanted to give my nephew options on choosing his color scheme. That is why I went with a lot of RGB stuff and I know the NZXT coolers perform well as I used to have them too.

The 860 is like an 850 after it stops being natty and goes full juice. After seeing a fast SATA SSD side by side with an NVME, I wouldn't build a new system without one now. It's faster than RAID0 without the messing around and extra time during boot up.

Maybe one of you guys can help me, I recently downloaded Black Desert online and the game is super laggy on high settings.
If I try to increase textures from low it tells me I don't have enough graphics card memory, on low textures and high graphics setting I have 7 FPS lol.

I'm running a GTX 908 Zotac AMP edition and i 4790k 4.00 GHz CPU (16 GB RAM).

I think it may be my drivers, I downloaded the latest version, however I read somewhere I need to delete all drivers and download them again?

That should be a 980 right? That should work fine honestly. Even on highest settings, you should be getting about 40-50 fps. I have the AMD R9 295X2 and that game doesn't support dual cards so basically, I'm only running a single 290X and I think your 980 should work better.

Try to reinstall the drivers clean. And make sure when you run the game that you are running on the 980 and not on your Intel HD iGPU. That's the only reason I can see why you are having issues, you are on iGPU.

Yes a 980. How do I make sure the game is running on the GPU?? I never knew it could run solely on the CPU??

You have an i7 4790, it comes with integrated GPU but I was wrong.
I dont think it could do automatic switching on desktop since your monitor is connected to your GPU port. I remember it when I had gaming laptops. Laptops can switch automatically between 2 GPUs but not desktop.

Did you try clean install yet?

I went to nvidia.com downloaded the latest driver with clean install option and still have the same problem.

edit: Something I should note is that when I try to open nvidia control panel I get a window that says "NVIDIA display settings are not available. You are not currently using a display that is attached to an NVIDIA GPU."

wtf does that even mean?

I'm a computer nub, btw.

edit 2: I forgot to mention that I have my desktop connected to a TV and I am not using a HDMI cable.
