Do you still have to pay taxes in Lebo? Is it hard to become a citizen in the UAE?

Don't have to pay Leb taxes either since i don't live there. It's very, very hard to get citizenship. They've gotten a lot of flack for that

Good, they should keep it that way. The west is crazy giving citizenship to anyone who wants it. Meanwhile, I'm paying 50c on the dollar + a goods and services tax on anything I buy. For what? Crappy medicare, unbearable traffic and ethnic restaurants on every corner? Get ****ed, m8. I'm about to throw my citizenship in the bin and gtfo.

Depending on the terms that got you there in the first place.

But who was middle ground? if you've been contributing to a country for decades and have a clean record, you should at least be eligible to become a citizen. You can't stay here if you have any sort of record

You couldn't pay me enough to become Australian. Great place i'm sure, but i wouldn't want to be a citizen. I'd rather not give the government half my money thank you poverty brah. There are plenty of Australians here living the sweet life though

You can't stay in the UAE unless you have a job. The only unemployment there is here is when people are in between jobs, and you have about 30 days to find another job or GTFO. So everyone here adds value

Think I'm right in assuming that the reluctance is somehow related to local culture.

Here's a big part of Dxb living: Friday brunch. People who first show up here get weirded out when they hear that Friday brunch is etched in stone, but then they experience it and they get it

Had a customer that went to teach Figure Skating in *****. They didn't like it though, and came back.

I presume it had a lot to do with them being older, and not of the best health. Climate can take a toll on older folks.

I'd get a job at Ferrari World changing tires, and deal.

I can confirm.

One of the UAE Royal Family's Boeing 777 is regularly at the D.C. airport. One of their kids was going to George Washington University, I believe.

It's not that simple, and I don't believe it's that straightforward. It's very capitalist in that it promotes and invests in local businesses. If you have a good idea, you'd have to fight off the hordes of venture capitalists, many of whom are government owned/backed.

But then you have other "socialist" policies in place. Employees have to pay for healthcare, including dental. Anybody who's not a citizen gets a free round trip ticket back home. End-of-service $$$ is mandatory. And so on. The thing is, all those policies actually benefit he little guy, and since the big guys are so profitable, it doesn't stunt the economy, nor does it disincentivize success. The leadership here is legit fantastic. Sheikh Mo gets around with no bodyguards. Stops and has tea with random strangers all the time. Assigned a happiness minister and installed happiness meters all over to know what to improve and then takes immediate action to respond.

FYI if you want to know just how awesome Sheikh Mo is...

He regularly drives around aloneand stops to have random conversations with people. Here he is hanging out with a few british families who were camping in the desert. It's a very common occurrence, and it's not a publicity stunt. He doesn't need the publicity, believe me, nor would it even help him

This is part of his website. You can submit any idea you have, and if he likes it (he usually goes through them, not just his people), he'll reach out to you and help you bring it to life. He'll help financially, logistically, with contacts etc...

What I mean is, they're running the governmemt like a business. It sounds like they're trying to compete for employees on a national scale. I would speculate that its at least partially because its ruled outright by a wealthy family rather than behind the scenes by a cabal the way we do in the west.

Was just speaking to a good mate of mine that I haven't spoken to for quite a while (military, hard to catch up). He's actually stationed on a yank base in the UAE at the moment for 5 months

Three former Pennsylvania State University officials were sentenced to jail on Friday for covering up ex-coach Jerry Sandusky's sexual predations and effectively letting him victimize more boys.

Very good. But sentences aren't long enough IMO.
