There was this one guy in my college who converted and was a black Jew (a blew?) and he used to hang out with the kids in the Hillel and they'd overcompensate so hard. I made a joke about how when he was in sight, all of the sudden they all had a lot to say about rap music (which was true). Dude didn't find my joke too funny though. He liked being a special butterfly.

Going to have to watch that movie never seen it.

The perspectives in this thread are interesting. Is it really that bad with whites trying to prove "they aren't racist?"

On the other side I am not sure why using my "black friends" as proof I am not racist doesn't fly. I don't hate black people.... I hate black culture just like I hate any other that doesn't promote improvement through education.

I don't think that's an accurate interpretation... I would say they objectify black people. They are literally objects to be used (I don't want to give away the plot too much). I think that was the primary social commentary in the movie.

IME that's a core of why it hurts or angers black people to be treated in that way by white people. We aren't treated as a human beings, we're treated as a 'concept' or 'image'.
