Personally, I hardly ever use the word because there are so many more words to describe people, but I do agree with his assessment.

Slavery talk really needs to be put to bed although it is a main driving force why blacks in America are so far behind whites when it comes to the solid, generational, hand-me-down corporations that have been around since americas inception. Had some blacks had the ability to educate themselves and invest in such organization back then, there's no telling how much farther along blacks would be presently.
I definitely agree with the left that a large part of the black community is disadvantaged compared to other groups, but we differ in that they feel that tax dollars and endless apologies are the solution, and giving a pass on the terrible fcking single parenting that sets kids up to fail from day one as “the most reliable indicator of violent crime in a community is the proportion of fatherless families.”https://www.ncjrs.gov/App/publicatio...aspx?ID=167327

If the left hadn't been given free reign to subsidize the destruction of the family unit then I'd imagine the poorer sections of black community would be on a par with other immigrant groups who came to the US in the 60s/70s with nothing.

Anyway, as to the OP Maher is a smarmy piece of chit but he's pretty much the only lib talking head left who's not trying to paint Islam as flowers and unicorns so I'm glad he got to eat a chit sandwich then move on.

Where I am in California, Blacks have a much better chance of getting a job or going to college based on their race. Affirmative action is still a real reality. It's also very hard to fire a bad worker that's black unless another black manager fires them or they will pull out the race card and the company is afraid of getting sued. One black lady where I worked missed 6 months of work in one year and late an hour or more every single day and it took almost 2 years to fire her. She kept showing up late and not doing any work because she felt entitled since she was felt she was the protected class. I also have a black friend who was straight up bragging about being hired because he was black. He only answered one scripted question out of 20 in an interview but the hiring manager happened to be black.

Bill Cosby gets in a lot of trouble now because of his rape allegations but he was spot on when he mentioned the Victim mentality a lot of blacks have. That is what is holding some black people down, but others say F the victim mentality and rise to the top on their own initiative. No one is holding anyone down anymore.

There are a lot of former oppressed people who immigrate from other countries and thrive over here. Asians that come to the U.S. came from communist countries for example thrive. China, Vietnam, Laos. It's time to move forward and forget about the atrocities from the past.

I hate Entitlement behavior where people feel they deserve better treatment based on their race. If we really want to end racism than Equal treatment is the answer.

Lastly, do you know how how most blacks originally came to the Americas? They were slaves of other black chieftains who had conquered their tribe. Those slaves were then sold to to the Portuguese, Spanish, English traders and brought to America. So black peoples should be angry at both the white and black slave trader. Ironically, without the slave trade, most blacks would not be in the U.S. but in Africa. I'm not going to sugarcoat slavery because it's horrible, but most of Africa is extremely impoverished and even a poor bum here is like a rich man in most of the African continent. So yes, some good actually came out of a horrible institution.
Civil rights happened in 60s, my mom was born in 54 so I don't know what to tell you, you keep making this discussion about me personally, I don't think you are capable of having a discussion about a topic properly.

Black Americans are a broken people who just learned to be allowed to be normal 50 plus years ago if you aren't counting. I tried to explain the effects of slavery and Jim Crowe to you. The US spent centuries breaking human beings to the point where everywhere you go in the US they are the same, you broke them and never fixed them, the UN report has spoken of this, they are broken. The Jewish folk where sent into a few camps and are still broken, people at ground zero of 9/11 are still broken, soldiers in a few years of war are broken from killing other peoples kids, the difference is all these people got help, black people never got help, especially black women. The effects are seen till this day, you can't even praise a black kid to his mother without her being defensive or saying stuff like "like that boy is bad at home" or " that kid don't listen", residue effects from slave master praising a black child forcing her to belittle them in fear of getting sold. Those moms raised kids, who raised kids who raised kids. I will use you as an example, if I robbed you today at gun point in your home, you will be traumatized and end up triple locking doors, getting added ADT, carrying a gun in car, on person, and in home. You will teach your kids to protect themselves plus they will watch you, 5 generations later you have quadruple door locking, ADT subscribing, gun carrying descendants who have no idea why they do, but thats just how it is, all because you dumbass got robbed. Take second and realize that they are mentally broken, you won't get great kids from rape victims moms, ptsd parents, mentally unstable parents, its just not going to happen. These things take time, the problem is whites won't accept they broke them and blacks won't accept they are broken.

Your Bill Cosby example on adds to what I said above, in order to have a "forward" mentality you must be taught what it is and experience it, blacks have been pulled back all their lives that forward looks like a long way away. Some might get out of it, but not enough and when they get out they don't look back, its a big mess that needs help.

Those people you mention historically where oppressed by whites and then puppet govt controlled by whites, learn you history. Either way their history and culture is different with parents teaching their kids to strive for better because they understand better.

This whole black conquered tribes things is what white historians tell their people to make them feel better, but alas the whole Africa was conquered because we are passive folks. Your take on Africa comes from the movies you watch hence your bum comment, but thats ok, it falls in line with your understanding of history and the world from a whites perspective. Your idea that a man with land, farm animals, home equals to poverty is based on your idea of wealth. I find it funny when people say Africans sold their people for Gold, or guns or whatever rocks westerners find of value, I mean you come to Africa to get the value of the land and think we will accept rocks for land. There is a reason why whites slaughtered so many Africans, we refused to give you our wealth for things we found valueless. Plus if you think we are poor because we can't do then you have no idea why your greatest asset is that military slaughter machine you love so much. Ask yourself what other countries gain from having the US dollar as currency and how it can flood their markets, while they cant flood the US with their currency? Ask yourself why would anyone give up their resources for paper just so they can buy oil or trade on the open market. You have a lions cub sense of pride thinking all the other animals respect your dad for his nice way of talking.

I vehemently disagree with Ice Cube when he says that the n word is "our word...we own it now". Why do you want to own a word that was meant to humiliate and dehumanize you? Just because you won't let other people say it doesn't mean the historical context of the word will just evaporate. If black people use this word between themselves as a sign of pride then they are just justifying the former slave masters beliefs in their inferiority and mediocrity of the black race. You also justify it and spread the belief among people today who may not say the word, but they hear it and they will assume that black people agree and acknowledge that they are indeed an inferior race who have no pride.

Civil rights leaders for years have fought against the N word and tried to replace it with brother and sister but it seems that many black people just prefer to wallow in self-pity and enjoy false, dehumanizing pride.

It started as way to remove the meaning from it and kids saw their daddys do it and then teenagers started using it. Unfortunately the sting of the word has not gone away, but in order for that to happen their needs to be some kind of acceptance by the dominant society for the whole degradation of people thing, I mean besides the 2009 attempt which no one even knows happened.

He humbled nothing, the only thing he showed is how ignorant black people can be. BRB a word can hurt when used in the same context by a person, depending on their race. It's cool when his buddy says it, but when a white guy says it, then it's not cool. Regardless of what happened years ago, black people stay down because they bring each other down. I see it everyday, I'm part black, my wife is also black. It's like crabs in a bucket.

I wish that black culture would stop pointing at everyone else and calling everyone else out, but not holding themselves to the same standard that they wish to hold other people to.

By culture I mean black American culture as a whole, because the problem with African Americans is a country wide problem. I am judge because I look black, even though I don't act, dress, or speak like your stereotypical black.
When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home.

What word can white people make up that only white people are allowed to say. Case and point for mexicans,Chinese etc. Why do blacks get their own special word that no one else is allowed to touch. If that aint racism, I don't know what is. Language is created in the mind. The fact you can't say a 2 syllable word because it had a negative contention years ago is bollox. Freedom of speech baby, wear that right with honour.

I fully accept the consequences and history attached to the word and would never be surprised at the consequences if you were to say it in the wrong context to a black person. They are fully in their own rights to react how they see accordingly. But to police it and not allow someone to say it is just disgusting to me.

Its called being a human and accepting the responsibility of your actions. Saying certain words in certain situations results in different outcomes.

white people have a lot of words for a lot of people, some choose to ignore some choose accept. You start by saying make up as if blacks made that word up themselves, you are hilarious. This is the way blacks have chosen to deal with the pain and ridicule, you white folk spend too much time destroying things then trying to make rules on how those you destroyed should react. You can actually live your whole life without thinking about that word or worrying about it just like the word Gringo doesn't phase you once.

Yeah I thought that aswell, I was like why is she talking so ratchet if she has a problem with whites using that word? lol. If anything, she's just a less extreme version of the very point that she's going against.

No clue how you came to that conclusion. I'm stating that the vast majority of white people did not have it easy nor did just about any other culture that came to this land or already inhabited it. Most fled Europe with little to nothing and through blood, sweat, and tears made a life here.

Oy vey (how about some Jewish slang?), except for my intentional use of "ain't", no ebonics were used, it was more attitude. But it was written in a way that would come across less serious (obviously) because I wasn't commenting on the "important" social aspects most people were engaging, just how cringeworthy that particular word is when used by white people.

Besides, this particular argument isn't about adopting black culture slang anyway, it's about the use of that word by white people, which no matter how you slice it is cringeworthy. In my opinion.

This is spot on. The word is going to offend people as long as people keep letting it offend them. Is it insulting? Yep.. but the only people intentionally using it to harm others need their opinions disregarded anyways.

Maher said it in the context of a joke. You may not like it, may not find it funny, but people are down his throat nearly as bad as if he went all Michael Richards up there and started heckling the crowd by yelling it at them. This wasn't some closed-session, hidden recording with him ranting and raving about the black community. Context ABSOLUTELY matters in this scenario. There was no malicious intent.

It's pretty parallel to crying wolf. When everyone and anyone who uses the term is crossing the line - then what does that say about the real racists who use it to insult and actually hurt others? Maher is basically being lumped into the group.

It's a word. It's okay to be offended and it's okay to wrestle with the idea that things may happen that you disagree with. The issue is when someone is doing it out of spite or hate that should catch your attention, not someone whose joke was plain to see.

I'm not bitter. I'm annoyed that these topics keep coming up year after year... a lot of it predicated on revisionary history. I'm not discrediting the black community, I'm pointing out that maybe they should spend more time looking inward vs. crying about what some non racist comedian said on TV. As if Bill Maher saying the n word is even remotely a real concern vs. all other serious issues. I was helping my niece who's half asian/black a few months back and got some decent insight into the local school program (appalling). Now that is something (education) that is worthy of hours of television time and not Bill Maher is a racist commentary.

This is where things go wrong. You cannot expect society to suddenly change if the black community doesn't change. If you want to be treated with respect by neighbors, then family members needs to respect and love one another. Black people should help each other and push their kids to succeed and aspire to great heights.

A white business owner who hires blacks yet has the balls to call the them the Nword, yet still promotes and pays appropriately or a white business owner with the kindest of demeanor to blacks yet never hires any. Racism when seen from whites has a lot of exclusion to make sure that most folk don't get caught up in it, so it has been reduced to some bad mouthing guy saying mean things. President Roosevelt is a loved man who help in WW2 etc, yet we can all agree that he was an extreme racist due to the Jim Crow laws he continued and the segregation of Blacks. The biggest problem with racism and its institutionalization is that it because part of everyday life that you can't see it or even know its a problem. If say for a example a company requires that upper level management get a recommendation letter from others from upper level and its only filled with whites then chances are no other race will be in that inner circle of friends.

I believe personally myself and no other, that white people fear to listen or address the ills of racism because discussing it unveils them. What I mean by that is if you are my little brother and when we where kids I asked you to make sure some contraption or whatnot was locked, yet you didn't and I ended up losing an eye, finger or toe. Every time someone asked me what happened I have to narrate the story which in turn unveils what you did, which makes you feel very uncomfortable, chances that you will want to hear that story are slim, the more you hear it the more you want to distance yourself from it in varying ways. One of the many effects racism has had on the white folks is their inability to be remorseful or feel anything for black people in anyway, look at most threads involving blacks getting killed, the very idea that death is ultimate and not a thing to praise doesn't even come to mind. Look at the lynching pictures with the smiling whites or my favorite the burning ones with the smoke hitting the crowd and they just stand laughing. I mean that dead man flesh in your face and you are laughing about dead man flesh smell in your face, you can say what you want about the Nazis, but dead man flesh smell in your face being delicious is the stuff of Jehovah.
Why does race matter? Aren't we all the same as people?

The black community was created like that, the fences are up because the attack came from the outside. Plus unless you dont understand the way of the world, the burden is put on the ones with power, plus common sense says go fix the problem you created, by you I mean the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. You want to fix Iraq and bring peace to the world and yet you fail to even care for the blacks you destroyed here, come on now.

Rappers are ****ing poets with a beat who end up as entertainers, not gangbangers. Tom Cruise and fired more weapons and hit more folks than rappers.

Just so we are clear how did the black community end up the way it is and if you don't know tell me about the residual effects of redlining on black parents, kids, and the todays generation? Must be nice to start the story where it suits you because you can.

I am on a roll today

had me untill the chick started going on about black people suffering institutionalized racism on a daily basis. either she doesnt know that "institutional racism" hasnt existed in America since republicans abolished jim crow or shes just a race baiter.

ice cube made a solid argument and was rational and cool about it. once you start getting into the whole "we have been opressed for 400 years and still have to deal with institutionalized racism to this day" argument then you lose credibilty imo. thats when you start the bernie sanders form of argument of just calling people a racists or a 1%er , or whatever, because you no longer have an argument

So races are different then? Maybe people just don't like what makes you different, so they avoid it. Seems reasonable to me.

You're free to be racist if you want. I personally don't care or see anything abhorrent about it. Just don't attempt to justify yourself about fair treatment or equality if you don't expect to reciprocate in kind. I don't have interest or care in your prancing about a topic you don't embrace yourself. Carry on as you wish you hypocritical twat.

Ice Cube didn't even make it that big of a deal, he just checked him, and then went on to continue the show. You white boys don't have to feel so cucked, it's a matter of controlling your context or simply not using words. You guys have a REALLY bad history, I don't know why some of you now refuse to accept/admit this.
I was talking about the incident as a whole not just Ice Cubes commentary. You can literally find pages of youtube videos about it and hundreds of threads like this about it. In that sense, a big deal is being made out of it.

Most people i talk to (and most aren't white) find the race stuff constantly spewed as annoying when it comes up and generally could care less on a daily basis. The only people that act cucked are the liberals and SJWs.

And white people have a really bad history? Compared to who? Are we worse than the Mongolians, Japanese during WWII, the Ottomans, Rwandans, the Ba'athist's, the Chinese, the Cambodians, those in the Sudan, the Chileans, etc ... There are supposedly 20-30 million slaves in the world today and most are in Africa followed by India and Pakistan. So how is it that white people are the only REALLY bad people? Everyone has blood on their hands ... how does it help the situation by constantly crying and pointing fingers?

what a wonderful world you live in, it must be nice, you get to spew all this nonsense then go home and forget about this race thing. Lots of whites where there to fight for civil rights for blacks who where being persecuted, at the end of the day the went home to their sweet cozy life and the black stayed. In order to understand this topic you must STAND UNDER it viewing properly friend.

Yeah I'm not from America but I understand the Hispanics use it naturally just as freely as the black people there. Didn't know Asians did too, lol. If the word has been stripped from its original meaning, then surely that creates an entry for others to use the reinvented word in the same manner? If I hear white people sayin it at a concert I have no problems. You clearly love the culture and support it, and you're not using It maliciously. It's stupid how people literally try put a lock on that word in any circumstance. Every white friend in my whatsapp uses it. I could think of 30+ people that use it in my presence.

The history of the word is why White people can't use it, don't know why its hard to understand, or why some get upset over not being able to use. You can't be in a country that sponsored slavery and segregation for centuries while calling a group that word....and then think it'll be ok to use it. lol

At the end of the day Bill didn't get fired, and Cube didn't boycott his show. It's just that Maher really was feeling himself when he thought he could causally drop the n-word with -er no less.
