If you can't keep your lower back stiff, drop the weight.

its because your legs are too weak, so your back has to overcompensate by rounding and doing most of the work

We got a dude saying deadlift, squat and bench press are terrible exercises? And on top of that he recommends weighted dips (aka the shoulder destroyer) instead? AND furthermore he thinks he's big, when in reality he looks like the average bro who gyms 3x a week.
Personal bias is off the charts with this dude.

Also got a calisthenics bro weighing in which is always a joke.

What that said deadlifts aren't the be all end all mass builder and are easily replaced. Squat and bench not so much, bench can be swapped for dumbbell bench but it's still bench.

Exactly the same understanding that my research, and experiments with rehabbing back and knee issues.

Poor glute activation.

Other lower body muscles have to take up the slack for any hip drive/lower body movement. And poor glute strength and activation leads to inwardly collapsing legs.

I wish that glute activation was empasized in physical education classes, and my martial arts training.

This post might go unoticed but wtv...

The issue with squats and deadlifts (and any other lift in that regard) is that they do not take into account each person's unique body structure, lever length, flexibility, etc. For example, the diameter of standard plates dictate the height of the deadlift bar. However, that height is vastly different for someone who's 5'0 with short shins, great ham flexibility, etc. that person may be able to keep an upright torso while deadlifting. For a 6'4 person who has tight hamstrings, they might need to bend 90 degrees to deadlift and wont even be able to maintain a back arch.

Squats are the same, depending on knee joints, hip flexibility, etc. The issue is people have no concepts of variations, there's conventional DL and ATG (or parallel) squats. That is it.

You should definitely play around with some of these movements variations and I'm 95% sure one of those will be pain free/feel natural to you.

Hinge:
Deadlift (conventional)
Deadlift (conventional) from blocs (3-6-9 inches)
Deadlift (sumo)
Behind the back Deadlift
Trap bar Deadlift
Trap bar Deadlift from Blocs (3-6-9 inches)
Romanian Deadlift below the knees

Squat:
Front Squat
Back Squat
Box Squat
Split Squat
Lunges

Personally after toying around for 10+ years I find these are the best exercises for me (3 main):
Trap Bar DL (6 inches blocs)
Weighted Chins
Bench Press

Assistance:
Split Squats
GHR
Abs Work
Military Press
DB Rows

This is a very good post and summarises everything i couldnt be bothered to type, good job

Only thing i would add is, deadlifts for the amount they tax the cns and the amount of muscle activaion are not worth it for bodybuilders, you can only really do them once a week and it interferes with the rest of your lifts. Squats can easily be done 2-4 times a week, and are the best bang for buck excersise out there

Overall conventional deadlifts are not an excersise bodybuilders should do, whereas squats although not essential are still the king and should be done as long as you can safely

dunno. snapped my chit up on both deadlifts and squats to the point I couldn't lift heavy for months. actually stopped lifting for a month. Pain didn't get much better. Decided to start lifting again through the pain, with altered form - pain went away.

Lke I said spicycurrie...You have the lower body and you have no upper body, you got a problem building...wait a minute. You have the upper body spicycurrie, and you have no legs, you got a problem building your legs spicycurrie. You have the upper...you have the lower body and you don't have the upper body, the upper body, it is easier to build. So if you have the lower body spicycurrie and you don't have the upper body, it is easier to build the upper body. You have the upper body and you don't have the legs, you got a problem building the lower body spicycurrie... No, spicycurrie you don't understand. You have the upper body, but you don't have the lower body, you got a problem building downstairs. You got the up- legs on the bottom, it is easier to build on the top, so you don't have much as a problem. Yeah." - Jason Genova.

Strongest cope I've ever seen in here. If you don't want squat or deadlift, don't. Just realize that you're not a real lifter.

Some massive guy at work asked if I ever use the Smith machine. Completely disregard him as a real lifter now...

I for one am glad a standard has been established for who constitutes a real lifter, based on a random opinion of someone who by all statistics deadlifts 2 plates for 3 piss poor reps.

Squats and deadlifts aren't needed, but I'd rather just go hard on these 2 exercises for a couple of sets that do a 50+ set bro workout isolating all the muscles which these 2 lifts will take care of in a couple of sets. Show me one non-fat person who deadlifts 600+lbs for reps and squats 500lbs+ for reps who doesn't look fukin thick,solid,tight.....

As I've gotten older I've had to change my routine around, especially with the two in question. Squats turned into rotating sleds, weighted step ups, front/goblet squats, and lighter weight back squats. Deadlift was just a change to snatch grip, which I wish I'd known about years ago.

Deadlifts are legs , upper traps , lower back and forearm its not a big deal to do something else.Like hyperextention , shrugs and farmer walk plus a good leg routine.

And nah dude. I use to do nothing but dumbell presses back in the day. Got some 'good gainz' in my early days. The biggest problem is when you start getting into 120+ pound dumbells for chest. Getting those into position can be nasty, if not counter productive to that lift. Eventually, the conventional bench press will need to be graduated to - at least for this reason. Granted chest development on dumbells is better, but anterior delt development on the press is better. You could do both...

Also, No offense, but you seem like you have something to prove against powerlifting. Seems pretty audacious considering each person lifts for their own reasons or purpose. Though if you're wanting to be a brute, bodyweight exercises are simply not enough to get you in that status.

I personally care more about numbers at the moment than how pretty I look. If I were single, it would probably be the other way around. Subconsciously, you think you might just be justifying this? Some people have fat phobia I imagine.
Actually you are right, i do have a bias against powerlifting, mainly because i see through their agenda. You people loterally shame others into doing conventional deadlifts and squats and say anyone that doesn't join your little dink measuring competition is a weak non lifter. My friend and I have fell victims to this as well. I could never conventional deadlift properly, due to leverages and he couldn't squat properly and those exercises were just back breaking for us. I was lucky enough to leave early but he lifted for years after that, thinking "ill get aesthetic soon"
At the end-he never did while i started looking really good. But recently he realized he has been fooled so he took them out if his training and started training without this awful powerlifting approach and he started changing in a matter of days. By now he looks like he actually lifts and isn't constantly breaking his back trying to squat.
But anyway our goals didn't involve being strong powerlifters, which is why we should've never been doing them to begin with. If those are your goals that's cool but dont try to shame guys who just wanna look good saying "you're a pussy lol squat"
