does anyone here not really respect doctors?

why am i supposed to be impressed by people who can rote learn some diseases and their symptoms which can easily be found on the internet? i haven't been to the doctors for like 10 years and i'm completely fine so what is even their point?

also if you notice there are a lot of females that become doctors which tells you that it's not exactly an intellectually demanding discipline with the general rule being when in school if there are a lot of girls in your class then it's not a hard course, i.e physics and mathematics have literally 2 girls each cohort

Depends op - if your life is at risk then a good doctor /surgeon can literally save your life.
Even a family doctor can be a life saver if they're smart enough to recognize something that's easily missed. You might be surprised.

I have worked in healthcare for decades and hate doctors.

I think most are stupid, just go to the first explanation they can think of, or charlatans.

being a doctor does not require any intelligence more than memory.

Scientists are the real great minds that help push humanity forward.

Doctors are parasites that make money off of sick people.
I have seen absolute morons become doctors. Some of the diagnoses I have seen them give were ridiculous.

The only doctors I can respect are surgeons - I see them as plumbers, electricians, etc. Good with their hands.

lawyers, doctors, and dentists are the top 3 most vile professions in the US.

I respect some specialists in some diseases where there are no known cures. Anyone who actually works their ass off to improve the quality of life for people with chronic illnesses gets my vote. Pretty rare though in my experience.

They have the highest IQ average amongst any profession. It's extremely competitive to get into medical school, arguably more than any other academic profession. Google your way out of your brain tumor or stroke etc. etc. The one time you need a doctor, you'll be glad that guy went through 10+ years of academic and clinical work to be able to help you. There are limitations in medicine based on the current understanding of medical research. The wikipedia aspect of criticism can be said for any career. We are all learning other peoples research at the end of the day. Engineers are learning from professors and books that were compiled by research conducted by thousands of professionals over the years. The purpose of medical school and residency is to train someone to be able to integrate that information and to apply what is most important at the appropriate times. If you have this logic of criticism for medical professionals, that same logic can be applied to almost any career path. The medical doctor isn't so much paid for his sheer knowledge but rather the art of being able to make sense of that knowledge because research is always adding to the medical sciences. You are a lifelong student in essence. So you have to have a deep understanding of the specific field you are in - in order to keep adapting and making sense of new research or even being a part of that new research. Like an ER patient that walks in with symptoms of a stroke - you have seconds to decide what to do otherwise that patient will die or will have permanent neurological consequences. You can't wikipedia yourself out of that situation. Stereotyping a general surgeon as the only doctor of praise is complete bull**** too. He wouldn't know what surgery he was doing if it wasn't for the team of various doctors that referred the patient to the stage of needing surgery in the first place. It's 2017. Very rarely is one discipline of medicine completely managing a critically ill patient. Being in the career, I respect the general practioners the most who have to have acumen to be able to distinguish between someone who has a benign vs serious-life threatening illness when any vague symptom to could mean anything. Good fatigue, you can have differentials ranging from simple lack of sleep or nutrional deficiencies all the way to leukemias and various other carcinomas. You need extensive training to be able to prevent a serious disorder from reaching it's full potential.

ok maybe respect is the wrong word, we should all respect people for working honest jobs but being a doctor is not impressive in the least despite all the adoration this profession gets, like i said a lot of women become doctors so having 'phDs from the hardest and most prestigious universities in the world in arguably the hardest subjects' is a lot of reaching on your part

I respect everyone. I don't blindly take anyone's advice anymore though, especially not a stranger

I only go to the doc when I need some short term pain killers or for blood work to diagnose myself.

I usually bring up whatever symptoms in experiencing and ask them to run certain tests to identify what I'm struggling with. Pure self diagnosis I leave nothing in their hands

I'm not a smartass and I'm not saying I know more than them. But it's my body and I trust my gut. I can do a better job of guessing what's wrong than they can, I live in this meat wagon

I absolutely do not care for check ups. I'm good I can check my own balls periodically.

I wonder OP, how much do you make? What's your salary? I can't imagine that you'd be an unsuccessful cuck if you're berating physicians and saying that it's not an intellectually demanding discipline.

Engineers are funny, because at the end of their career they don't make as much money as a general practitioner's starting salary.
When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home.

I guess folding clothes at the GAP for $8 an hour is more intellectually demanding than being a physician.

Nurse checking in. Wearing your scrubs in public is a hazard to public health. I work with a huge variety of patients, some of which are in isolation. Like fuk if I'm going to stop by the supermarket and rub VRE/MRE/CRE/ESBL/pickyourbacteria all over the store. Fkn gross and they should be ashamed of themselves if it's after their shift (totally acceptable in clean scrubs before you go into the hospital)

That aside, sometimes your nurse is the one who saves you from the MD in the hospital. Like any profession you will have high quality, mediocre, and straight up dangerous MDs that should have retired...

Just lol @ your whole post. Seriously. Are you just against general practitioners, or all MDs? Because your answer will probably drive my next question...

Yeah I felt great googling to find that gif, and I'll feel great when I google what to do tomorrow when I see my patients too man. Then I'll get in my Porsche, then Google my way to my house.

Most people don't respect things that they don't endure (medical school) or understand (medicine). Only a complete imbecile would think that physicians and Wikipedia are interchangeable.
