How are you MFC and never heard of POF? Granted they're known more for their AR10 variants, but still.

Now's a great time to get started. Schuyler Arms Co has a great deal on receivers:http://www.schuylerarmsco.com/produc...d-upper-59-993

or some of Aero's builder's sets

$350.00:http://www.schuylerarmsco.com/produc...d-black-96-993

$525.00:http://www.schuylerarmsco.com/produc...n-em-15-92-993

Pick one of those up and all you need is a LPK, BCG/CH, Barrel Assembly, Receiver Extension and Stock. I'd recommend getting one of Aero's LPKs without the FCG/Grip so that you can just buy whatever Grip/Geissele Trigger you want.

Probably because that ^

And I looked, the 5.56 was piston so I don't pay any attention to that

I can't afford .308, really. Well, I'd have to cut back on pistols so, nope

The way that you stock up ammo, probably not. 5 cases of .308 is 2500 bucks.

Do I need a licence to shoot people on my lawn?

If you are a resident alien, and the person on your lawn is threatening your life, most states will protect you. There is no license to afford you additional protection. No state will afford you protection if you leave danger then return to shoot someone.

Fuarkkk so tempting to buy everything in your post. I don't have any guns right now and I was thinking of buying a pistol first, but now I am starting to reconsider...

Only thing is that I live in an apartment (second floor, end unit. neighbor behind me and below). Is it not a good idea to use an AR in my apartment for defense? Don't want to kill my neighbors in the process of protecting myself.

When I lived in an apartment I had a Remington 870 synthetic tactical. Unless you have a huge luxury apartment a shotgun will do the job in close quarters.

Any firearm that will penetrate adequately in human flesh will penetrate interior walls. Whether that's a 12ga shotgun or a 5.56 AR. There are rounds like Hornady Tap Urban that can reduce this risk, but it's not any greater than that presented by 12ga buckshot.

Yeah you won't see them in Aussieland but I did shoot one in Vietnam. Also shot an AK. Had trouble hitting anything with the AK but lit it up with the M16.

I admit it was a weak troll but a surely a question on a lot of Americabrahs minds :P

I've spent over a month in the US, LA to NY across the southern states. There was a lot to like but unless I knock up an American woman I doubt I will ever live there.

Well, you live in California, so you can't buy it anyway. You could go to your local gun store and see what kind of abomination they'll sell you as a complete rifle, or buy a complete lower from them that's compliant, and order a nice upper receiver for it.

Opie not to sound pretentious but is there a way you can provide a guide or lead me to a thread where the AR may run above one grand... Mm premium of sorts

How much do you want to spend? Do you want the rifle Cerakoted? Does this price include optics? What do you want to do with the rifle?

This guy's $2300-2500 as pictured, but it also has an expensive optics setup

I don't see a point to spending a grand or more on a basic AR rifle now. Unless you are counting with the optic and a few 'upgrades' in which case you may be way above that.

For example, this could run a few grand (just the rifle)

Here is a list of the parts and what I paid for them...you'll notice the market is much better now, this build started spring 2012

Colt LE6920: ~$1,180
Trijicon Accupoint TR24G: $760
LaRue SPR-E LT-139: $230
LaRue Cattail for TR24: $80
Troy Rear Folding Battlesight: $90
Surefire X300 Ultra: $215
BattleComp 2400 FSB light mount: $80
Geissle SSA trigger: $200
B.A.D. A.S.S. (safety): $65
BCM Gunfighter Mod 3 grip and Magpul MO trigger guard: $30 (not pictured)
Centurion C4 carbine cutout rail: $275
Magpul stubby VFG: $20
LaRue index clips: $30
Magpul ACS-L stock: $95
Vickers Combat Application Sling (VCAS), padded, Coyote, Al: $75
Daniel Defense QD endplate: $50
BCM Gunfighter CH Mod 4: $35
AAC 51T blackout flash hider: $95 (not pictured)

That totals to $3,600 but you could save many hundreds, very easily, today to build something a little bit better.

What is the current state of handguard market?

If I wanted, say, to cut down the FSB on a carbine gas upper and put a long free float rail over the top of it with a flip up front sight, what am I looking at? Lightweight, only intend to need to mount the front sight, a light, and a VFG. Stock GI barrel nut preferred, but if it's a great thing I will literally pay a gunsmith to do it with barrel nut swap

I Just haven't been following and don't want to take the time to dig through everything right now.

Ikeman brah, new to rifles kinda but looking in the near future for an AR i'll use for private contracting (i have an oil job in the works). I want to get an AR but i don't want the standard 11"barrel, i want something like 5-6". Looking around i can't seem to find anything with a shorter barrel but i know i've seen them. Does that mean it has to be custom made? I'd like to stay around the $600 mark so am i stuck with an 11" that i'll want to mod later?

Thoughts? Appreciate the help brah. Oh and i live in ND and have a class 1 if that matters.
