Came in to post this, but more specifically, taking lifting so damn seriously to the point of not having a social life for almost 2 years srs. Glad I saw the light and started going out/having fun more often (still lifting too tho hehe).

related to this. i used to drive around with a little cooler full of ice in my front seat with a pre-made protein shake in it. i would get done working out and rush to my car to drink the shake.

i also used to talk about lifting constantly when i first started. i remember being out one night and out of nowhere, i asked a friend who i hadn't seen in a while "how much he was benching these days". i was also fat at the time from four years of college partying, which made it even worse.

what a fuking *******.

Thinking I needed 6000 calories a day to grow, I remember legit fighting with my parents about them not buying me enough good food lmao fuk me

There was a point when I was 14-15 where I was putting 2 tuna cans into a half dozen eggs for breakfast, and smashing a few cups of rice with tuna for lunch + dinner + dessert. That's a lot of food for a 5'7 teen

Luckily didn't get fat just put on some semi-decent size hehe

Used to think I was huge compared to everybody else in the gym bc I was stronger but fat and when I cut I looked like a twink but a lot more aesthetic

Used to wear cutoffs but I quit at a reasonably appropriately age. Nothing more cringe than an adult doing it

Used to crash diet for months before I found misc and learned how to properly diet and learned about basically all the broscience that doesn't matter if you're natty

Rolled my shirt sleeves up on my work shirt when I was a stock clerk (15-16). Neg away, I'll never do enough good in my life to justify that *******ry.

Also not training legs the first two years I lifted (15-17) and RUNNING instead.

-Got trapped under 185 on bench when I was starting out and had to do the roll of shame off my chest down to my thighs.

-Looking back at my "intense" workouts from HS and realizing how soft they were.

When I was about 18 and really scrawny I used to wear those shirts where you cut off the whole side

So I fit right in with the rest of the people that wear shirts like those I suppose

First time trying to bench just the bar, lowered it to my chest, couldn't push it back up. Had to roll it down to my hips and stand up to place it back on the rack.

Worked out for you and crippled others. lol one of my femurs is the size of 1.5 of your avg person

im all ****ing legs. it was horrible advice for me. blanket statements generally are, and the people that adhere to them blindly are the idiots that suffer for it

different anthropometry, leg lengths, motions, hip angles etc.

do what feels right to you. theres a general idea of good form but I've got to spread out my legs super wide to get hip clearance and that has more to do with my limb lengths than it does any perceived mobility deficiencies.

point being do what feels right for you. shoulders back and down cue was also horrible for me. i recently learned i already have downwardly sloped shoulders, i need more upward rotation.

again blanket cues and statements.

I came in to post this. Not sure I did $300-400, but I was definitely in the $150-200/month range in "supplements." I was working out of town so my company was paying directly for my apartment, truck, gas, utilities, cable, cell phone and internet....plus giving me $500 on top of that. So what did I do with that great situation? I fukn blew it on all kinds of garbage, including tons of voodoo science supplements. And what's funny is I felt like some of them "worked," because my diet was so bad that the slightest hint of a real vitamin and mineral had a positive effect.
