Kids, learn from this. Trust me, when you hit mid-40s if you've made smart choices in your life - there is no reason why you can not have a great life every single day. Don't fool yourself right now thinking you're young and that your 40s will never happen and when they do you'll be old, broken down and washed up. Wrong. You can peak in your 40s. I assume you can peak in your 50s, 60s or whenever, the fact is - every day of life is a precious gift and don't be a fool now and rob yourself of that gift later down the road.
Right now in my life, I love every day, I am full of joy and happiness and I embrace every day with gusto. I do not do the things I did in my 20s or 30s but as I've grown older, I've transitioned and found new things to embrace and find peace with. You all can and hopefully will, too.
Do not think your goals when you are 20 or whenever will ever define you. They shouldn't if you do things right. Obsessing over something here-and-now that will destroy you later in life is the worst mistake you can ever make.
Please, learn from Piana's mistake. Live a full, rich and good life and be wise. Destroying yourself for some dream you have when you're 21 will trap you. Not only can it lead to an early demise, but by doing that you very well might end up doomed as Rich Piana was in other ways - which is living with the same ideals/goals he had when he was a young man as he entered true adulthood.
That is to me as tragic as his death.
Life isn't always about living hedonistically, carefreely or however it is you spend your days dreaming and fighting for as a young man. Life is about transition and finding joy in every stage of your life. You will someday find that the things you crave now no longer interest you and you will find deeper happiness in things you probably now consider worthless.
I feel terrible about Piana's death but in many ways he was living a shallow existence well before this happened.
Please, learn from this and take stock in your own life and existence and open yourself up to the possibility that growing old isn't such a bad thing.

Im sorry to hear this. He was at times controversial but he spoke his mind. I think he was basically a good person. Yes some ego and insecurity issues but everyone has those.

As long as you understand the consequences of what you are doing I'm not sure if I agree with this. Did Piana's choices shorten his life? No doubt. But who's to say his life would be better just because it was longer?
I assume he understood the risks and he made those choices anyway. So many people get hung up on the quality of a life being determined by the length. You assume he still would have had happiness making "smarter" choices that allowed him to live longer.
I'm not recommending people go out and be reckless with their lives. But if you do understand the risks and consequences before making a choice and choose to move forward anyway there should never be any regrets about anything you do.
I'd like to think Piana doesn't regret a thing because it let him do what he loved, even if he only got it for a shorter time than some of you think a life should be lived. You call it a mistake because it's not what you want. But I don't think you're in any position to call his decisions a mistake. You are not him and you don't know what he valued.
"One day I won't be able to lift any more. Not I won't want to lift. I mean physically unable. That day could be decades from now or it could be tomorrow. All I know is that's the day I'll wish I could lift more than ever. The day I'd give anything for one more workout, one more set, or one more cardio session. So go hard and enjoy every workout, every set, every rep. Because one day you will wake up and you will never get it back."

There was something about this guy. Even my wife who barely follows the fitness community was pretty sad to hear about Rich.
A few of my CA friends have hung out with the guy and all said the same thing, he is even cooler in person.

RIP.
I always liked his videos. As weird as it sounds, his daily videos, his daily routine, comforted me during some rough times. Just seeing the man doing what he loves and being a generally cool and entertaining guy made me feel better about life in general. Knowing this guy was giving his all to get as huge as he could was inspiring.

Obviously, due to his size, his past, and his videos, he is open to much criticism.
The thing is, he was real. He lived a life that HE wanted, knowing of the consequences. The reason i respect it, is that he brought it to light and never wanted anyone to do what he did. knowing that "leaving humanity behind" was a slogan for something he knew he was doing, was dangerous but it took him to where HE wanted to be in his life.
Sad to see someone like that go. he's leaving behind a lot of good people that he influenced.
