The Hemingway House also avoided major flooding. A source at the National Weather Service tells us Key West only saw a water surge of about 3 feet as opposed to the 15-20 feet anticipated throughout the Keys as Irma approached. We're told Key West was in the eye wall -- the strongest part of the hurricane -- for 2 hours. Water has begun to recede as Irma moves north.

oh so we are saying that irma was like any other hurricane now? lmao

if youre in soflo and you feel that way, just be glad that it worked out for you. irma was a badass among hurricanes. we're talking from start to finish, and NOT just counting where it made soflo landfall. the world is bigger than your town

Ready for this **** to be over

Was a mandatory evac friday, but thankfully storm started changing course. Wife is holding down the hospital with patients that couldn't be transferred. Power has gone out a couple times with steady rain and wind.

Sandbagged one of the back doors to hopefully prevent any water from getting in like last year with Hurricane Mathew. That was a nightmare to deal with.

Currently the rain has died down a bit, which is odd

Every resident from FL should be sending in Thank You notes to Cuba, If Cuba wasnt in the spot its in, Half of FL would probably be leveled right now. Storm never looked the same after it left Cuba

Listening to local news. Big Pine Key to Marathon has gone dark. No communication. Rescue team trying to land in airport and asses airport damage and clear runways to fly in relief. They suspect water system is damaged and may have leaks through aquifer since water pressure is almost non existent. All cell towers knocked out. Only a few officials with satellite phones communicating with state officials.

i have an extended family member who retired down there last year. they were going to stay but ulitmately decided to bail.
of course they are worried like crazy about going back. they have a badass house down there, boat, and other cool stuff. the boat was put into storage, but not sure how that worked out.

he knows his stuff got wrecked, but question is how bad

Gonna be all sorts of interesting chit on the East shore. West too, maybe. Because of the angle that this thing hit and the directions of the winds, it's sucking everything onto shore.

Tampa/Brandon brah checking in. Been in a shelter with kids who literally been crying for a whole day without tiring. Tv has been knocked out and lights flicking occasionally but still have power and ac. Doesn't look bad at all outside so far.

Getting rainy and very windy here. Expect it to pick up more sometime tomorrow, just hope it doesn't get too bad. I think now the hurricane was over hyped, but they still suck altogether. Sick of dealing with this like every year.
