matter of time, depends on when they can earn money. when the salary starts to go up, top athletes will start transitioning over, knowing that you can earn more and have get more fame through football during to international coverage. nba is safe though, simply because nba is popular widely around the world

Problem with American soccer is that everyone is a Forward or a Keeper. We need to build up defenders and midfielders at a younger age.

If I want to watch men going around for 90mins without any action, I would just accompany OP to a bar and watch him.

I agree with the OP. Anyone who can see and read has noticed how fast the sport is growing here.

Kids will play less football because of concussions. They'll play less baseball because its boring AF. Hockey will never grow because of the costs to get into it. Basketball will probably stay where its at or grow even more. Soccer is easy to pick up and cheap. Its also the most popular sport in the world and the foreign leagues get pretty solid ratings over here on NBCSN. Americans are finally waking up and seeing that their sports(NFL,MLB) are inferior and boring.

Even though hockey has always been my number 1 sport, I've been watching less of the NHL and more of the EPL/Bundesliga/MLS. The current state of hockey is not very entertaining IMO.

For sure there are die hard football fans all over the planet, I only mentioned the EPL as there's stadiums with top class facilities for many clubs that aren't world beaters, yet week after week they fill the stands, people who support teams in the EPLsupporttheir teams, which I know can be said for many countries around the world but England especially is packed with great stadiums and has the most quality players thanks to the fans who continue to stand by their clubs.

Completely untrue. You can't use your personal experience and assume it's like that everywhere. Because it isn't.

At my job more people do fantasy soccer then football and multiple of us are season ticket holders for NY Redbull. Big groups of us go to games very regularly.

You listed that it was an average game, yet it is the single game attendance record... you should go look at college football if you want to see attendance records.

It's still a tie but each team gets 1 point which can be the difference between staying in the league or getting relegated at the end of the season, or getting through group stages etc, so even goalless games can still be tense.

This is the most ridiculous argument they make.

I love football, I watch games every Sunday with my NFL crazy friends.... but I'll see them vegetate at endless commercials and sub 10 yard gains after saying soccer is boring. Even when their team scores they barely make a peep.

It's like some phucked up form of Stockholm syndrome.

If America had focused on soccer like other sports from the beginning we would be number one already. Look at the USA women's team... They've been competing since women's soccers beginning and they are world cup champions.

So you are saying in 20 years i'll have a lot more free time because we wont have good sports like football, baseball, and basketball to worry about watching anymore?

We'd be much better but to compete with South America & Europe - I don't see how that's possible.

Their soccer culture is many times stronger than ours. From their youth systems all the way through their top flight. Soccer would have to become the #1 sport in the USA by far and it would take decades after that to even get CLOSE to the other countries. But we can still score shock victories in international competition. It's happened before. Our players have heart that's for sure.

We have a really terrible team this year. Meanwhile at my university its normal for 100,000 fans to show up for a football game, and that's one college. That's twice as many who attend the world cup. Any given Saturday. One town in one state.

Typical debate tactic when someone (usually a liberal) can't win...personal attacks and name-calling.

And every now and again you'll have an absolute belter of a goal, and not only is it an exceptional goal but the weight it carries is huge also, and there's no better league for this than the English Premier League, it doesn't have all the best players but it's super competitive and it's often just 1 goal that makes all the difference.

There's moments that happen in football that can't be replicated in other sports, like Man City winning the league for the first time in over 40 years, they were down 2-1 against QPR in the very last game of the season, they needed to win to beat Man United who were at the top of the league, a draw wasn't enough, and then in the 5 minutes of extra time they scored twice, the last goal coming from one of the last kicks of the game. You don't see this anywhere else, no other sport can build tension like this, no other sport can turn on its head at a moments notice, this is why it's the best sport and is recognised so by the world. Show me anything that comes close to this...

Do you realize how castrated you sound by calling it "the beautiful game"?
